  1. I have heard of them (dr john's, clancy's, tet tailors) from other forums. Which is the best?

Unfortunately, most of the tailors (dr john's, clancy's, tet tailors) that so call specialized in hemming cant do is chain stitching.

Just wonder where do you guys send for hemming or you never hem your denim.

Btw, how much a chain stitching machine cost? Anyone knows?

Thinking of switching to be a tailor just denim hemming since there isn’t one locally.

yup unfortunately no chain stitching available as far as i know.

i sent my imperial dukes to dr john.

i actually managed build a rapport with him cos i constantly visit him for jeans he still owe me.

because of our 'rapport' he did my urgent dukes request in under 2 hours.

36' inseam is way too long for most singaporeans i guess.

it maybe quite a waste to hem those selvadge denim and stacking maybe an alternative

but not all jeans work out with stacking and in my opinion 'over' stacking looks funny.

  2. retroman, as far as I know, there isnt a place where u can do chain stitching, however you could try dr john's @ lucky plaza or clancy's at far east...which are probably the most reputable for dealing with denim.

ah ha. the legendary dr john.

though he has good workmanship, punctuality is not one of his plus points.

i actually have a pair of jeans sent for tapering in Oct '06 and its still not done yet.

haha sorry but got to bitch about it.

but if you are just planning on length alteration,

he is usally not that slow with his hemming.

  3. yeah man tweedle.

one definitely needs a pair for dressy events.

no matter how much we love our jeans we cant wear smelly, creased and faded jeans to dressy events. haha

the darkness of 811s are amazing man. its almost black.

i have half my mind on the eternal X bears

anyone knows why my profile picture doesnt show?

  4. hahahahahaaaa .... :D ..... they don't know what they're missing .... :P

S0500XX beautiful? Wait till you lay your hands on them ..... :)

I realised this after spending a fortune (29 pairs : 17 selvedges and 1 fake), stupid me, so, imo :

    1. there's nothing more fun than just wear your jeans, 1 pair at a time, feel them, bash them, rock in them, rock with them ..... ;

    2. you've got only 2 legs, and living in HOT Sg, so 1 pair at a time, my dear ....;

    3. similar to high-thread-count bed sheets, selvedge denims are more comfortable! (this is definitely personal)

    4. you're talking about fabrics that are pain-stakingly dyed blue, and if you don't wear them often (like me), they take centuries to fade!!! :o

So, imo, best is take a look around, buy 3-4 pairs (depending on your wearing frequencies) that are the best in your opinion and that's it (for the moment  ). Save the money and spend them wisely elsewhere.

    My top 3 (+1):

    1. Samurai S0500XX

    2. Sugarcane SC40400N

    3. Pure Blue Japan XX-003

    4. Evisu Lot.2000 No.2

To me, they each features something that make them outstanding. make a guess and see if you agree ..... :)

    29 pairs? madness madness

how do you even find space to store them. haha

you must be singapore's king of selvedge denim

oh yes since i only own one pair now i am truly rocking them full time.

despite the heat, i go every where with them.

i really mean EVERYWHERE. work, kopitiams, hawkers, clubs (lots of spilt drinks), shopping, dating, family events.

    its my girlfriend. haha

yeah i think owning one pair would help you be more focused on breaking.

but but but its this damn superfuture.

its making me go gaga over so many pairs. haha.

my own target is 2 indigo jeans and one black. (a very optimistic target, and no not 29 pairs. haha)

wah what a top 3. a combination designed to kill.

but my favourite would be the S0500XX i like the slightly tapered look.

but take nothing away from PBJs and Canes.

you are right about one being unique in their own way.

thats the lovely thing about this denim game.

not a evisu fan though =p

  5. sweetmofo....... samurai s0500xx is a great choice but try not to get addicted to this shit heh hehe........ it kills the bank account :)

wow lek looks like you spent quite a fortune. haha

    thanks for the insight!

yeah man skcusdog and lek, i drool just looking at pictures of the s0500XX.

    beautiful!

this jeans thing already took a large hit at my bank account.

i only have a pair of dukes as of now, but i am hooked!

and i can predict more pairs coming. haha

its funny when we are talking about $350 jeans and there are some people bitching over a $150 levis.

  6. No, i haven't tried straight from samurai.com. I bought mine from rakuten.

Dude, a lot of work has gone into making the Samurai (Sorahiko, XX-003, Sugarcanes, Skulls ....). IMO, you won't go wrong saving your quids and invest in a pair. Seriously, there's not much good stuff in Sg worth paying for. Good things don't come cheap, especially when you realised the amount of love, sweat and attitude that went into delivering a pair into your hands ...... Hype shits don't count.

yeah man i know the good stuff dont come cheap.

i am just trying to cut middleman & shipping costs, etc.

i am going crazy over the S0500XX.

total cost would be around 350 SGD for that to be shipped here.

how much did u pay for your sammies?

  7. Wow, I hadn't realize that they are made with veggie indigo. The slim ones are made with 13.8 oz denim and the straight jeans are made with 14.5 oz denim. I beleive that you sacrifice contrast with heavier denim. 13.8 is still really heavy. So that means you have to work hard to get creases and wait longer between washes.

These are size 31, my Imperials are size 32. These are a little bigger (by maybe 3/4 inch) in the waist. I am glad I got these instead of Diors.

thanks for the sizing tips serge.

one thing's for sure the somets are seriously working out for you.

somet, s0500XX or external X bears? hmmmm

  8. hello fellow singaporeans and some malaysian neighbours!

hey lek or any other peeps that owns samurais,

did you all buy ur sammies straight from their site or rakuten?

i am aiming for a pair of japanese jeans now. any special deals for singaporeans? haha

  9. Hi fellow denim addicts, need opinions on the following japanese denim.

Basically i prefer my jeans to be of slimmer cut. that would be snug around my thighs and not too baggy at the calfs.

I currently own a pair of imperial dukes. Now hoping to go japanese on my next pair.

I am contemplating between these (description is based on my understanding):

    1. Eternal X Bears

    - slim cut

    - 14.5oz denim

    2. Samurai S5000VX

    - regular fit

    - 17oz denim

    3. Samurai S0500XX

    - slim fit

    - 15oz denim
