shimokitazawa is pretty cool to poke around... daikanyama is worth a peek too, but i definitely enjoy shimokitazawa more. But that's the extent of my helpful suggestion, since I'm not a resident or anything... did you ever decide whether or not you were doing the daytrip to Yokohama? how long are you gonna be in tokyo for?
that reminds me... i suddenly have a craving for a steamed pork bun.

well I hate to break it to you, but that picture with the girl suckin on the titties.... they're pornstars. Jennifer White & Kasey Chase did a scene together for TeenBFF. I guess the good news is that you can find this scene on a torrent site and watch them both suck some dude's dick and take turns getting boned

having owned a Quark 123 (regular) for several months now, I'd have to say it may be what you're looking for. I initially wanted the tactical version, but the guys here convinced me that the regular version is much more user-friendly.
all you have to do is twist the barrel, and you have instant access to the two "emergency" modes: Full power and strobe. Normally I keep it untwisted because I use the lower-power modes to navigate the dark, but when I feel that I might be in an uneasy situation, I twist the barrel in advance so it's ready to go if I need to blind an opponent.

...I can't get into Mad Men, but I really trust AMC....
say whaaaat.
well, to tell you the truth, my friend and I had the same problem with Mad Men. But after watching the first 3 episodes (at separate times) we were both hooked on that show. I suggest you at least check those episodes out... the show is definitely worthy of the hype

Fruity Loops and self-proclaimed "beat makers" are to production what a 13-year-old kid playing Blink 182 on the Squier he got for Christmas is to guitar.
I distinctly remember watching a documentary featuring Skream and Benga, and they worked almost exclusively in Fruity Loops. Which isn't to say that they're my favorite artists, by any means, but I think it still has its uses. Besides, how else would Soulja Boy have blessed the world with "Crank Dat"?

Looking at going to the Ghibli Museum when I am there. Would you guys suggest I buy tickets before I go, or would I be right just to go to a Lawson and try and use one of the ticket booking machines? The only thing I'm worried about is that they seem to be all in Japanese?
oh hey I'm curious as to how this pans out for you, as I am also interested in stopping by that museum... I was planning on ordering tickets from a Lawson kiosk, but only if the display is written in katakana. Otherwise I won't be able to read it too well. Maybe I should buy online then....
edit: I dug up some information for clueless foreigners like you and I...

on the topic of the Suica + Narita Express combo deal...
I got it last year, and I had to show my US Passport to get it (the deal is only valid for foreigners). Here is the official website for the deal:
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/suica-nex/index.html
"You must hold a foreign passport to purchase a Suica & N'EX package. The passport is required at time of purchase."
I usually only ride the N'EX until Tokyo station, but apparently the price is the same even if you ride it all the way to Shinjuku station instead.
and youkinorn, since you only have a little over a week in Japan, I would agree that it's probably best to just stay in Tokyo the whole time. I do, however, recommend you check out Yokohama because you can do it as an afternoon visit (it only takes 45 minutes to get there from Shinjuku) and it's pretty cool to walk around Chinatown, the waterfront area, and Minato Mirai... some good photo opportunities, plus you can get a chinese steamed bun and ogle the ladies

^ Yeah, i think I'll get her to bring her older sister's ID just to be sure. Sounds like they wouldn't really scrutinize it so that should be fine, yeah? She's definitely gaijin too.
I'm half-jap, but I went with two white females last year, and none of us were ever carded (we were of-age anyway, but I digress). Went to a concert at Ageha, bought chuhai at convenience stores, cigarettes, whatever. No need to worry, unless your friend has a baby face
edit: I should also point out that it's legal and socially acceptable to drink in public; no need to cover up your beverage. Although I don't know if it's bad manners to walk down the street with a drink in hand, like how it is with smoking a cigarette or eating food... could anybody clear that up for us?

+ rep for your scepticism and good eye. Man, so much of the stuff here is faked, photoshopped, or written by bored middle-management stiffs to entertain their buddies (K-Mart memo).
And yeah, maybe $22 Billion is more like it...
Gotta be vigilant.
at least that picture of the money-filled room is real. I don't think it had anything to do with all those other random pictures, but considering the amount of money that is being generated from the Mexican trade alone, things like exotic animals and military weaponry are not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
on to the proof:

also, on the note of people doing stupid shit while driving -- a couple years ago, some high school kid was huffing keyboard cleaner or something while he was driving through the center of town, and he crashed his car into the front of a barbershop.

Young Woman Found Murdered in Northern Liberties
by KYW's Ian Bush
Police are investigating the murder of a young woman early Wednesday morning in Northern Liberties.
Authorities say 21-year-old Sabina O'Donnell went to a bar on 2nd Street Tuesday night, then went back to a friend's house until a little after midnight. She borrowed the friend's bike to ride home.
Homicide captain James Clark says the attack happened when she got to her home in the 1200 block of North 4th Street, near Girard Avenue. (photo)
"When she got to the outside of that location, she was approached by an unknown male who drug her to the rear of the property, took all her clothes off of her, savagely beat her about the head and body, we believe strangled her, and also robbed her and then fled on foot from that location."
Clark says an autopsy is planned for Thursday morning and, at that time, police will be able to determine if she was sexually assaulted.
O'Donnell was found by a neighbor out walking her dog just before 10am.
Anyone with information is urged to call homicide detectives at 215-686-3334.
