  1. Does anyone know if the Type I jacket is STF? I tried on a small today and it looked pretty big on me. It felt quite rigid and I asked the people at the store I went to and they said yeah it probably is but only because it was with the other STF stuff. In other words, they weren't very convincing. If anyone has any information I'd sure love to know asap before I leave town.

It is XX Shrink to Fit. I got a medium and it was on the big side but I have soaked it for a better fit

  2. What are some nice anti-fit jeans? i have a pair of opening ceremony grey jeans. and theyre pretty sweet. any others out there?

Anti fit is when the seam on the seat is straight like on the 501. Most other cowboy jeans have a U-shaped crotch to fit the ass and not cause excess fabric when in the saddle.

Is it an anti fit jean you want or just a loose fit?

    Advice - Get some 501's

  3. vintagedenim.de have just got in new 20s 201 and 36 type 1 jacket.. anyone got these yet?

Got the type I jacket today. Nice details, exposed rivets and cinch. Its really nice although its a bit big on me. I take a medium in all other Levi stuff though guess its just the style of the time.

Going to cold soak it tommorrow and get it down to size

  4. Iwould you know if they're ging to have plain cotton pockets (like lvc japan) or the stripey shirt cloth pockets like the non-japan version last time they were made?

Also the 1953 Type II jacket, if it's pre shrunk, does that mean aged?.

The '44's will have the stripey pocket bag as the originals had them.

The Type II will be in rigid Shrink To Fit.

    Some good stuff coming through!!

  5. the fact there are levis 'spies' on this board which probably influenced the temporary closure of Zippangu treasures etc etc... not to mention the lawsuits against all the japanese brands

the desinger you speak of, if he is a contributor I'm sure he wouldn't have anything to do with the 'horseshit' and I'm not directing anything at him. BUT there probably are some with affiliation to levis who use this board to find info on brands/stores etc and although unavoidable that shit ain't right....

Could it possibly be that some people that work for Levi's are interested in denim therefore read superdenim? I'm sure there will be people who work for other denim brands on here. Does this make them "spies" too?

What's wrong with using this board to find out info? That is one of its main uses. Who has not used the search button or the encylopidia to find something out? Its a public forum after all....

Is it not the case that they are protecting the brand? A few folk on here have the opinion it is only a few small japanse denim companies that are using the Red Tab and the Arcuate but if they let these companies use them it sets a precedence and then where do you draw the line?

This has happened in the past. Lee jeans copied the Arcuate until 1944 when they had to stop usage due to copyright. This brought about another icon in the way of the Lazy "S".

P.S Somebody else mentioned they hope Levis lose profit and their shares slip. I thought they were a private company so do not have public shares?

  6. There is two sub ranges in the Gold Label Range. One is the 101 range and the other is the Originals range.

101 Range - 101B & 101Z based on the 30's and 50's fit respectively but altered to have a more modern appeal. Usualy a half wellow selvage (this may have changed). They change the washes, details and fits of them seasonally. Made in Europe.

Originals - Edwin made Japanese repro. Full plain selvage. Usually retails about £165 for raw. Has a small license tag inside the left back pocket. Come in a 1930's fit with Hair On Hide patch and a 1950's fit with leather patch. These have both been staples of the range for a few years.

  7. Invented by wrangler in the 60's. It's like a mixture of right hand and left hand twill. The weft passes over the warp at uneven intervals during the weaving process. This give the appearance of little "w's" instead of the diagonal lines on the inside of the denim. Broken Twill feels softer but still retains durability and strength.

  8. I just liked the jeans I bought! I googled the jeans and the brand has no relation to Soviet union, I thought the same thing. Too funny! ....I believe it is a South African brand.

Soviet have been about for a bit. Always been crap. To give an idea of how good they are they can be found in such quality stores (in the UK) as U.S.C and D2!! I think they might be owned by the same company that owns USC. Anyway you are crazy if you like em...

  9. The colour of the selvage has no bearing on the cast of the denim in the case of Levi's. The red selvage was used to differentiate the denim in Cone mills from other brands. The blue selvage was used on the 201 range to differentiate it from the 01XX fabric used for 501's as it was a lighter weight fabric. They even used pink selvage in the 30's for Lady Levi's!!

Before the yarns are woven into the denim fabric the cotton yarns are dyed and the indigo does not penetrate to the core. This is why when bits of the dye fade off you get the white core of the yarn showing through (fades).

Redcast denim, sometimes called true indigo is when the yarns are only dyed with indigo.

Greencast denim means that the yarns are dyed with a green dye before the indigo dying process. This means when the indigo is chipped off through wear the green dye shows through giving it a greenish tinge. This was invented by Levi's in 2002.

You can give denim any colour of cast as it is pre dying the yarn before the indigo dye is apllied.

Some dyes may have faded to have a natural green tint due to the chemicals used in the dying process since natural indigo was pretty much superceeded by synthetics in the early 1910's

  10. These are not exact repros. They are part of the 101 range that has been almalgamated into the Gold Label range along with Lee Originals (The Edwin produced models). The 101 range took inspiration from the old original 101s but they played about with them to make them more appealing to the modern day consumer. They originalled reatailed for about £65 / £70 in the UK about 3 or 4 seasons ago so are not the latest incarnation.

  11. ...when you have a random dream about a mate you've not seen for two years and he is telling you how he has not washed his jeans for seven months.

...you have two pairs (or more) of brand new raw denim in your wardrobe but refuse to wear them as you are "working" on the current pair you have been wearing for ten months.

... carry items for no reason but to get fades. i.e carrying a zippo but you don't smoke.

...when somebody says "nice jeans what kind are they?" and you reply "the same ones" since they have seen them at least a dozen times before as you don't wear any others.

...you don't use napkins as you wipe your hands on your thighs

...get excited when reading about a process you don't know - boiling water on leather patches!!!!

  12. I have a pair and the stitching went on the lazy "s" and on the front pocket. The denim came away from the seam on the fly at one of the buttons as well. Quite a lot of shrinkage I thought.

They faded really nicely and have a nice handle on them though!

I wore them for about a year.

  13. The small patch stitched on the inside of the back pocket show it is an edwin repro!!

He probably got them from somebody who told him a story about them and got mixed up since Lee market the product as Lee Originals....or he is chancing it.

  14. here are my 47's.
