  1. Picked these up on the bay for a song , just arrived today .Fantastic condition 101z's from 1960s. These are going back on the bay as they are too small . Compared to the 1966 repros these are a tighter fit at the waist , thigh and leg . . Great to come across an original pair in such great shape with all the original features . Got another pair ,of 101z's with these , Unworn with tags but i beleive to be an early Lee repro , will post pics later .

  2. Havent visited or posted in a while ..... Cheaney Pennine from earlier this year . Only started reguarly wearing them now that the weather has turned . Uppers are bullet proof , tougher than I expected . If anyone is thinking of buying a pair , though sized as G , they are more like a F fitting for me . If I get time will post my espresso Stows , worn throughout spring / summer .

  3. can't imagine why people reckon c&j boots are more elegant than tricker's...

definitely feeling the brogue boots at the moment...

Crockett & JONES IS A DIFFERENET AESTHETIC TO ME . THE NAME ALONE CONJURES ELEGANCE . TRICKERS COUNTRY COLLECTION DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN ...STILL EXCELLENT THOUGH . TO ME THEY AREN'T COMPARABLE , NEITHER BETTER AS SUCH THAN THE OTHER .though a lot of their products are generic eACH HAS ITS OWN APPEAL .

AS FOR BROGUE BOOTS ...YOUR PREACHING TO THE CONVERTED !!!

  4. Thanks Ben . These were an impulse buy , though i got them from richard not in belfast. As I mentioned in an earler post , I have been critical of Cheaneys' contemporary styles but these and the dealer boot version were a pleasant surprise ..Sturdy enough though not as much as my AS MONTROSE (TANKS )

I assume sunny doncaster is like sunny belfast...there's f**k all sun ! lol .

  5. First wear of my new Cheaneys' today . I wasnt mad about lighter coloured boots but was bowled over with these . Whilst traditionally styled the slimmer shape , ski hooks and slightly antiqued finish make them a bit more contrived but they look great in my opinion . Some Cheaney veldts to arrive in a few weeks too and thats me finished..... A light coat of brown polish and saphir applied .

  6. Nice pics Ben . It's good to see a proper post on this thread again. I am not one to stir it . However , there are wasters inputing on this thread .You know who you are ,!! Your banal comments along with the lack of a pair of fkin shoes has become tedious . Apologies Ben for the rant after such a good posting .

Me , well i found a top notch repair shop in my home town , I never knew the guy existed . I was visting my son and took a different route than usual and saw the shop . I knew this was a cool shop when i noticed a number of leather hides hanging close to the door , some with cutouts . A real down to earth guy too . We had a chat for a few mins , i got him to replace some segs on my AS Montrose also . He showed me some of his work , stiched full and half golfer/commando and leather soles . He said he reguarly does veldts too , which surprised me ( though Belfast does have a great military / soldiering tradtion ) On my way home i passed a clothes retailer who I know sells Cheaneys , called in and saw a pair of Tweed boots with a commando sole . I have previously given Cheaney a bit of stick , after viewing some of their more " fashionable " shoe offerings which I thought lightweight . I loved the Tweed grain leather and ski hooks . However the shop wanted £40 more than Cheaney retail and deliver them next day for !! A quick email sorted me out with a pair which should arrive Tuesday . Will post pics on arrival .

  7. i'm getting seriously hooked on zug grain veldtshoen here. Am right on the brink of ordering a pair of rannochs but trawling back through the thread all the pics of these seem to be gone, are they slightly more 'agricultural' than the Alfred Sargent Kelsos?

Hi Kimi , both ctb and myself have owned Rannochs . Your comparison is apt , however dont be put off by that . They are an excellent winter boot and aesthetically look great too , particuarly with jeans . Maybe not finished quite as well as the Kelso's but still worth a punt . Kelsos' are hard to find , though Tredders still have them I think at £285 .

  8. (with pre-emptive apologies to fre$co and maynard)

always a distinct bonus to find old shoes, barely worn and with the original box - all in good condition.

can't be sure, but i have an inkling that these are the same model as the shoes belonging to my old ex-army mate that i posted a year or so ago. the plain toe on these veldts always makes me think of the tricker's 'tramping shoe' models.

the original itshide soles are an added result...

Nice one Ben , you any idea on the age of them ?

  9. As for the E.G. advice that a veldt boot should only be resoled once, it seems probable to me. I would think that by the time any normal person wears out two commando or ridgeway soles that's got to be many years and would have outlived most other shoes. Especially as these boots are meant to be worn out in the 'field' not on concrete city streets, which are more abrasive on soles. Not to mention the finite amount of leather available on the edge there to sticth down before you have to start making the boot smaller.

Got a reply from Cheaney ref resoling of the Pennine boot -

"Thank you for your enquiry. We would expect that your boots can certainly be refurbished twice, and possible three or even four times, depending upon when the insole has to be replaced.

    Kind regards

    Sheila Bone

    Cheaney Shoes Limited "

I'm sure it is a case of horses for courses and diffrent manufactuers offering differing advice . I am happy with the Cheanry response though and am looking forward to my pair arriving end of May from Shoehealer .

  10. Ben , I was close to reporting your post for serious boot porn . Though not zug , I ordered a pair of Cheaney Penine from Richard yesterday , just couldnt resist and your post pushed me over the edge . THe Edward Green info on resoling is interesting , yet I always am a bit sceptical of manufacturers in these instances...theY market FOOTWEAR as lasting for years then contradict themselves when it comes to refurbishing . It isn't really in their interests for shoes to last forever i SUPPOSE . tHE IDEA OF RETURNING TO A GOODYEAR WELT IS NEW THOUGH , BUT A RUBBER COVER ON A LEATHER SOLE WOULD NEGATE SO MANY INTRUSIVE REPAIRS . i WONDER IF A COMMANDO CAN BE EVENTUALLY BE REPLACED WITH A LEATHER SOLE , MIGHT ASK RICHARD . EDIT , JUST EMAILED CHEANEY , WILL SEE WHAT THEY SAY .

  11. haha, that's not the first time they've been listed.

makes you wonder how on earth you manage to end up with odd boots, and what happened to the others. the boots look pretty unworn, too...

AND SOMEONES BID ON THEM , LOL , HE MUST HAVE THE OTHER TWO !!

  12. i have a pair of those - they aren't bad at all, although mine haven't shrunk as much as i'd have liked so they don't get a huge amount of wear. the leg selvedge is mega fat though.

Im really liking the fit and hope mine dont eventually shrink much . Fat selvage is cool in my book . Though I dont think I will wear these cuffed ( for a change ) Will rotate in well with my 47s and 55s .
