  1. Update on the S140SXJ-GRK - only daily wear for the last couple months because DC is very hot and steamy. A lot of the initial stiffness gave way. Now they're very comfortable and easy to wear. The fabric is crazy. As you can see from the detail shot, the short vertical fibers are fading beautifully. Sizing up from a 34 to a 36 was essential.IMG-20231213-WA0002.thumb.jpg.56a3208030b169bc4f3317759fe74e61.jpgIMG-20231213-WA0000.thumb.jpg.d583b11779993114fe4c2282c1958bc0.jpgIMG-20231213-WA0003.thumb.jpg.3c20ad05ecbadb35bdb59c8ee166c410.jpg

  2. Snagged a pair of the S140SXJ-GRK from Self Edge. Pics to come soon, some initial thoughts.

This is my third pair of Samurais but my first purchased in 15 years. The other two are only out of rotation because they don't fit anymore. I typically wear a 34 but from the sizing chart I went for a 36 - definitely the right choice! Can't imagine squeezing into their 34 - Self Edge measured it as a 32 inch waist.

I've never owned jeans with this kind of weave before - truly wild. The shorter fibers make for a really coarse, crunchy texture. I machine washed them once to get the starch out and they felt stiffer afterwards. Denim is so rigid that getting them buttoned after the wash was a challenge. The fit says "relax tapered" but for me these are pretty slim jeans with a slightly roomier upper half. Really looking forward to seeing how these age as i can picture getting really nice creases.

Found some 19oz Samurai 710's that have been folded up in my closet for the past few years. Unfortunately they are far too small for me now.

    Gorgeous.

    Legendary.

  4. I also went true to size with the Monitor Down and it fits perfectly. Then again, I'm 6'7", so that's highly specific to me.

The coat is crazy warm. And the liner is very, very comfortable. One of my favorite features thus far is the down lining in the hood. Can often avoid wearing a knit cap as it keeps the dome quite cozy.

Notorious amazing. More than else, I envy your ability to keep your weight/body dimensions for 9 years.

Thanks. I'm tall, so that probably helps. Neither pair is hemmed.

  6. No doubt - has happened with other down items I own like a comforter. But this was weird - was like a plug of down sticking out of the liner. I walked it over to the store, showed it to them, and they didn't hesitate to make the exchange.

  7. My local Arc'teryx retailer has Veilance but isn't stocking the Monitor down coat this season, so I had to order it from the website. I'm 6'7" and trim so I went with the L and the fit was great. The XL adds a little length on the body and sleeves and room in the chest, but the shoulders are the same. Tried layering it with a sweater and it's incredibly warm. Unfortunately, there's already down leaking out of the liner so I returned it for a replacement.

  8. olivier rousteing is complete shit, he doesnt know how to design at all and is still pulling from decarnins work at balmain, which i might add is still selling better than the seasonal collections to this day. Some argue that rousteing is better at womenswear but I beg to differ, shit is still poop but spelled differently.

This. The clothes are tacky and ridiculous. Olivier is a genius at branding, which for the people he's targeting, matters more than design skill. This New Yorker article spelled it out.

  9. I'm careful with my money but love a good impulse buy on occasion. My philosophy is based on patience. Do your homework and figure out what you like, then don't settle. Always better to wait than buy something because the money's burning a hole in your pocket.
