  1. With a happy ending? I'm booking flights now

yeah 3 of us can share on a cubicle or a fitting room i should say

I think I can accommodate you guys. :D

I was wondering whether anyone could provide some info on the measurements of McCoy's jeans, versus say Samurai. McCoy's seem to run very big comparatively - or at least that's what BiG's measurements seem to suggest - so if I wear a size 32 in Samurai 710XX would I go for a 30 in 991XH, for example? Also, is there any consensus on how much the sanforized denim shrinks in the waist when first washed?

McCoy's run larger because of shrinking. It's not a hard rule, but I normally suggest to size down 1 size for the 991XH, depending on if you like it tighter. Some people size down 2, if they can squeeze into it. Shrinking occurs between 3% to 7%  depending on how you wash the jeans. The waist could go down 2.5" but not always. This is with a hot wash and dry. All Joe McCoy (991, 991XH, 991BK, 905S, 904S, 900S) denim is unsanforized, and most Real McCoy's (001, 002, 003, 004) denim is sanforized, but they still shrink a bit)

  2. I feel a few good points have been raised:

    - The internet is serious business since it has opened venues of shopping that was once hidden or inaccessible.

    - Globalization of a business is difficult due to exchange rates and values of currency rising and falling. Makes sense that car companies like Honda or Mercedes, produce domestically in the countries they are selling in to make it more feasible to be affordable. Or be a big enough company that you can control your pricing globally.

    - The Real McCoy's is not a multi-billion dollar company like RL to able to handle the overall operating expense of a global brand.

    - The Real McCoy's is expensive in comparison to other similar-tiered Japanese repo brands, but not in comparison to luxury brands.

    - The Real McCoy's customer service can be improved as well as creating a solution for global pricing differences. (Companies like Alden's as well)

    - Blanket statements of a positive or negative nature proves nothing and gets nowhere.

I am a shopper that will pay for something at a store if I've received good service or wanted to support the store, even if I can find it cheaper somewhere else. I have paid extra for RMC products domestically, and I have also bought RMC while I was visiting Japan. I don't really think about it, because, to me if I can't afford something, I just don't buy it.

At the same time, if I receive crap service from a store, I will walk out with out purchasing anything and not even think about it.

Anyway, I got this hat recently. I think its made from extra leather scraps from the jackets.

  3. Ed, I'll give you a massage if you ever stop by NYC. But I'm gonna pass on that other thing…

mikka- you sound like a bitter man. Maybe I'm not getting it culturally? My Japanese is not fluent, but from what I've experienced, it was miles above my expectations. I'm not sure if you've ever dealt with NYC salespeople-knuckleheads, but it can't even compare. Sure I got the occasional dipshit, but that was far from the norm.

I bought a L-2 in the Sapporo RMC store (now closed) broke the zipper between my trip to the Tokyo store, had it fixed by the manager at the Tokyo store, while I shopped around. He had it ready for me when i was done shopping. They carried almost every style and size I requested and was courteous and polite to my wife and I. Also they didn't talk any smack behind my back (cause I would know).

To your point, I did run into a moron in the Warehouse Osaka store, but the staff at the Okayama Warehouse store was awesome.

So maybe, just maybe, you are throwing around a blanket statement?

Lastly, American retailers should charge Yen prices because operation costs in the US is based in the Yen and not dollars? So retailers should run their businesses, based on how the Japanese economy is doing and not how the US is doing? These are not rhetorical questions I am asking, just questioning your reasoning.

  4. I would just get some Munson Red Wings, but they are a bit pricier, but made with better craftsmanship. But 200quid is pretty cheap. You might be able to find Munson military spec in vintage NOS for dirt cheap in North America.

  5. I would like to know which Real McCoy's boots you are referring to that cost ¥90,000? Unless you are referring to the Chippewa collaboration, it's certainly not $3,000 in the US store.

Check your facts before you start flaming retailers.

Also I do feel bad for you that you have had crappy experiences in the Japanese stores. I would say 9 out of 10 times, they've been excellent and I've been to a lot of stores between Hokkaido and Okayama.

Yes, I agree that some web sites need improvements, but by no means do I think their customer service is sh*t.

  6. Wow, I've never seen that happen before. Also that's never happened to any of my Samurai Jeans. I'm almost afraid to ask what you were doing at the time when it ripped.

It's cotton thread but nothing a sewing machine can't fix.

  7. Eureka! Finally a real explanation for the toe tracks. You can't believe how long this question has been asked to me. I usually answer with a half-baked answer and shoulder shrug. Makes so much sense now. Thank you brian, tilmann, hogg.

  8. For the 991XH size 30, the denim does shrink quite a bit if you hot wash and dry. Usually up to 2.5" in the waist and 1"~2" in length. I wear my 991xh jeans pretty relaxed, so my pair is a bit loose and stretched out. My suggestion is to decide how you like to wear your jeans, and then pick a size that will give you 1"~2" working room.

If you can't even button it when its raw, (I know some ppl don't mind working for it, usually at the cost of the button popping off) then it might be tough to start there.

The Joe McCoy jeans are sized up from tagged to account for various inconsistencies in shrinking, but thats one of the reasons we love raw denim, the organic nature of un-sanforized denim.

  9. spence at okun's!?

spence the 2010 bucos were 85000 yen right?

Yes they are! I'm thinking you're thinking of the pre-2008 Buco's which were cheaper back then. I think when they bought back the 2010's they were already ¥126800. The leather is different in this pair, but it still had the big yellow box it came in back then. All Buco boots now are delivered in a big black box.

^Perfect...Would love to see your favorites once they're back in your possession...

Cole - love all of those boots. Want to see your fav's. But those Buco's - wow!

Thank you! I will post it once it returns.

Is your favorite pair the suede Chips or the green shorties?

The suede Chipps that you can get everywhere. I don't know but they were my first pair of welted boots! Like my first love or something. They were cheap, $100 or so, but 8 years later, they are still here with me and still fits great.

  10. I used to get new boots, but then I realized that, if you don't mind someone else breaking in your insole, used boots is a good way to go. I've found many boots either online or vintage shopping around North America for pretty good prices. I've found Alden's for $200, Red Wings for $80, Chippewa's for $60, etc. etc. Its been getting more difficult because the market is all over the place, but sometimes sellers just want to move stuff and a good deal can be had.

I think Chippewa is a good bargain, especially when you can get your hands on an 80's era boots which I found a pair for $120, dead stock. The linings were still leather, and the upper leather was a couple of ounces thicker.

I never worry about the soles, because that can always be repaired. Just make sure the uppers is not too dried out.

  11. Sizing for Lot 002 is a bit different from tagged size. Each of measurements are indeed done by hand and from multiple pairs. From my experience, each of the pairs are slightly roomy and sizing down can be suggested. From what was explained to me, the denim is sanforized, but you can still get some shrinking from them if washed and dried aggressively.

The Real McCoy's jeans are very mud more in line with vintage fits than newer cuts. Think pre-1960's. The Joe McCoy 991 and 906s are the slimmest cuts, but they are not what you call skinny jeans. All of the Real McCoy's jeans lot 001~004, are very vintage fit, think mid-tall-ish rises and larger leg openings. Lot 004 has a slight taper, but still the legs are pretty full.

Denim weights for Joe McCoys are between 13.75oz and 14.75oz. The Real McCoy's denim weights are between 14.75 to 17oz

  12. An update on the engineer boots I've been wearing the most. The amount of loot that I paid for these boots doesn't equate to how much I enjoy wearing them. My favorite boots cost me $80. (which I didn't include cause they are at the "shop")

the new liberty cpo fits a little big when i fitted the sample at the osaka store.. i need sizing on that too pls

No problem! I will let you know when they both come in…

  14. really so your telling me they had me fitted a wrong size at the osaka store?

i could not close a size 16 cpo shirt but it says 54cm or something like that on the measurement and i have like 2 inch of space between the button and the hole

Damn, 2 inches? Not directed at you Ed, if you request it, BiG will measure the exact garment they ship to you before they send it off. I can vouch for that.

This is for Ed: That's crazy how off that is. There's a new shipment of CPO's arriving soon and I can give you a measurements of various sizes. I'll email them to you.
