  1. PBJ-XX06 (compared to the xx-03, xx-05, and xx-08)

the same regular fit as the xx-03 dyed a different way, made with different thread, and not slubby. they're supposed to look and feel like vintage denim. they shrink a lot more than the xx-005 but i was still fine even though i sized down 2 from my xx-005's. (note: as mentioned later this will not be the case with the xx-08) the xx-005's have more room in the waist and a lot less room in the thighs. i don't know know how much they stretch in the waist because i've always worn a belt with them and thighs are plenty roomy. they're a slightly lighter/different color than most raw denim off the bat. kind of a royal blue. it's perty and hard to capture on camera. i don't think the pictures on the BIG site do them justice. i can't speak from personal experience but all the pictures i've seen of them with a lot of wear are damn good looking. these are much easier to fade than the xx-05's. they're the softest denim i own even though they have the least wear. i consider them the perfect summer denim even though they're not super light weight. great for days when it's so hot and humid you can only wear light clothes that don't cling. they're also the most comfortable denim i own.

In summary( i should have probably just said this): if you want a straight leg that feels like you've been wearing them for years almost immediately, has the potential for somewhat unique fades, make summer tolerable, and don't mind that they're not super dark when new these are for you. if all that sounds great except the straight fit, get the xx-08's which are supposed to fit like the xx-05's. but size up on the xx-08's. the sizing is totally different on the 06's and 08's.

  2. For those of you that have the E2C's: do any of you use them for working out, specifically, running? I need a pair of earbuds that stay put when coupled with sweat and heavy running..........

i have them but i don't use them for running. i use the sennheiser mx 75 sport headphones for running. they are the best i've found. i can't say enough good things about them. you don't notice you're wearing them. they never fall out. the sound is decent. they're fairly cheap. and they're totally sweat proof.

  3. a late reply but openauf's heavy duty lp applyed often is the best protection i've found. we buy it by the gallon.

Cheers for the feedback. No I don't really want to keep them glossy, I'm not fussed by that. I just want to make sure that they're protected from the elements in every possible way :)

I'll go with the wax cream and polish anyway, see how I get on. Thanks again.

  4. i'm looking for a pair of stalking/tracking boots. i've been trying to get a pair of russell trackers but their current turnaround is 4 months and they're not taking rush orders. so i started looking at quoddy trail grizzley boots. does anyone have any experience with them or have any other recommendations? i'd also prefer a boarhide sole to cowhide.

i also thought about having an old busted pair of browning featherweights resoled with boarhide. but i don't know much about leatherwork and don't know how that would turn out. i think it would look better than it performs.

  5. i don't think there is anyway in hell you're going to be able wear those indoors unless you don't have heat. i have the filson version. they are amazing cold weather pants and totally silent. they do tend to absorb odors though. mine smell like a mix between gun powder and compost. i would get the filson whipcord's. even though they cost a lot more than the woolrich pants, you'll actually be able to enjoy wearing them.

  6. i don't know a whole lot about old leather but i do mess with old furniture in general a good bit. it's really hard to say anything useful without seeing pictures. but it sounds like it's starting to oxidize. that is normal. further damage can probably be stopped with proper care. i've used pecard but something else might be better suited for your needs. what i mean by that is that it's not cracking and flaking due to use, but rather neglect. if leather isn't cared for it will eventually turn to dust, which is what is starting to happen here. so if you use it and although it's not actually an antique, if it is collectable you would want to avoid having repairs done on it if you can. it's far more valuable in an original state. this is not always true, but it's a general guide. however, i'm sure that it could probably be repaired if that's the route you choose. it wouldn't have to be recovered to be repaired. and if you do get it, keep it away from heat and sunlight.

  7. i'm not vegan, but these are places i seem to end up when i'm with people who are. if you were here prekatrina your options are pretty much the same.

    bennechin on royal is good.

angeli on decatur is open late.

lola's on esplanade near city park / bayou st. john is a spanish place with a few offerings. and the cracked out garlic stuff that looks like some sort of butter that comes with the bread is vegan.

13 on frenchman - people will tell you to go here. i won't.

    mona's on frenchman

but in general, you're pretty much fucked. i'm not promising that anything that seems like it should be vegan anywhere in town will actually be vegan. so if you are one of those people who cry over whey or lard, you may want to not eat while you're here.
