Currently in UPS tax limbo with my p31a-ds from the mothersite.

I called a UPS broker, they stated the vat # is an overseas number and will not work, they need a US tax ID for my package... I contacted acronym and they said they provided everything. Asked if they can contact UPS to correct this, they just told me to forward my invoice to them as it has everything they need... So now I've CC'd them in my email to the UPS broker explaining the situation.

Anyone dealt with this before? It's pretty frustrating as I'm on week 2 now of waiting for this package and it seems that Acronym needs to get in contact with UPS over this, as it shouldn't be my problem to deal with, they need a tax ID from the shipper. Not the end of the world but I've never had this issue when ordering directly from acronym :/

If it's anything like my past mothersite orders, it's not that they need a tax ID from the shipper, but that they need a tax ID from the importer (you). You can just give UPS your SSN since it's a personal import.

Got the J68-PL Raf from ssense but didn't receive bag.... just tissue paper and the shipping box lol

was this released without a bag ?

I ordered an Acronym item from Ssense in the past and got it without the bag and sheet. I emailed them and they claimed they never received a bag and sheet, which seems unlikely to me. I imagine they just toss them out.

No difference to me, however, the J68 has a little more room internally so it fits sweaters a bit more comfortably. The other day it was a high of 0C / 36F with 35kph / 21 mph winds and I wore my J68 with just a t shirt and felt toasty. J58 was just the same.

Did you buy the same size in both? Based on measurements it seemed like the J68 fits a size smaller than the J58. I have a J58 in M, and was looking at buying the J68 in L.

Just got a call from a UPS rep asking me for a tax ID number so they can release my shipment?
Can anyone chime in on this? Wtf

If you let them know it's a personal import, you just need to give them your SSN for tax purposes.

Wow. Great results. Any tips on what you did to have it come out so well? I had tried ironing and it didn't help much. May need to finally get a steamer.

    sorry to cut the conversation
does anyone have j44-sd become like this after getting washed?

Mine is like that but even more extreme. It has that strange wavy pattern throughout the entire jacket. Looks terrible. I haven't had a chance to try ironing it out, because otherwise it's basically unwearably ugly.

Received the j84 in raf and I really like it. Very minimalistic yet the boxy cut is very stylish, should be a very versatile piece. However I notice something strange, can anyone who got the j84 check if you have the same. See the photo and the back piece inside the jacket seem to be missing the edge binding. Not sure whether it is intentional.

My J44-SD from last season has the same type of edge in the same spot, so +1 on it being intentional and not a defect.

Best I can do is mention the flaws but I really won’t hold my breath for a quality response.

Definitely contact them. This isn't a subjective good will warranty repair to a worn garment. It's a product arriving damaged beyond repair, which warrants a refund. If they won't refund you, you can definitely file a claim with PayPal.

Yep, same thing happened with me re: SSN.

The convenient thing is that I was able to apply a more specific HTS code for the J58 on the same call. I would advise everyone in the US to do the same to save some cash.

What HTS code did you end up using? Was it one that is not impacted by the 15% China tariff? From what I can see, all the usual ones fall under those tariffs.

Are these codes and approximate duty rates still accurate (post from 2017)? Want to confirm before I order.

Watch out for an additional 15% trade war tariff on made-in-China products, including the J1A-GT. I learned that the hard way with a recent order. I think all other Acronym products are made in Europe though, so it shouldn't be a concern.

  11. which is probably what leads canadians to vote less, and less...apparently last night was the lowest voter turnout on record, probably due to a lack of interest in any of the parties.

Yeah, that's another problem altogether that they're going to need to deal with. Apparently the second worst turnout was in 2004. The Liberals need a leader who the general public will actually find interesting and they need to get people re-engaged in the whole process.

I know that I voted more out of antipathy to Harper and his government than out of a love for any particular party or candidate. And being a big geek, I decided to go with the candidate who was endorsed by Cory Doctorow.

  12. ndp and liberal are fairly different parties though....

its too bad we dont have a straight 2 major parties instead of 2 and one half sized.

If we had 2 major parties, I think the conservatives might have done even better than they did. The liberals (and Dion) put on such a weak showing that we would probably have a majority Conservative government now.

At least with (another) minority government, the Conservatives need to get one of the other parties on board to get anything accomplished.

Also, from what I've read, minority governments (in Canada, at least) historically don't last very long, so I wouldn't be shocked if there was another election in 2 years.

  13. I managed to get through that. Managed being a key word. The series had some great parts, but Cryptonomicon (and everything prior) was much more readable. Will probably get Anathem during the holidays. Recommended?

I enjoyed the Baroque Cycle but I would tend to agree that Cryptonomicon, Snow Crash and the Diamond Age were probably more readable. I liked Anathem a lot. I would recommend it without hesitation if you enjoy Stephenson's other work.

  14. man, I hate insane bitches who keep asking retarded questions in class. I had a bitch ask the most stupid questions about css in some unrelated class last week. Then she came up to me at the break and told me that I was a really quiet person. I was like bitch shut the fuck up and go pull tricks to put money in mah hands. useless hoe.

I once supervised a girl like that at a job. Just asking questions to hear herself speak or something. I started working with my headphones on and got really good at tuning out her voice. She would ask me the stupid questions and would then think about it and realize she knew the answer and she stopped bothering me with trivial bullshit.

    Success.

Just finished this one, got to wait until next week to get my co-worker to bring in the next issue pack.

Anybody else read Transmetropolitan? I was very skeptical at first but the more I read of it the more obsessed I've become, and its for sure my favorite now.

Crazy late pass for me on this, but hell yeah. I've fallen behind on comics, but I really liked Transmet and have been a big Ellis fan for years... I even designed and maintained his website for a year or two in the late 90s-early 00s.

Have you checked out Planetary or his run on The Authority?

  16. when i started working at an IT firm last summer i was shocked at the emphasis they were putting on SEO. it's waaaaaaaay more important than many people make it out to be however i'm still way too lazy to do it.

It's also become one of those buzzwords where 90% of the "expert" consultants are clueless and are just running a scam on people who don't know any better. As if anyone can guarantee that you'll be the top organic result on Google for a common term.

And I don't even want to get started on the word of mouth marketing firms that have pitched some of my clients. Their methodology is to pay people to seed conversation about a product on message boards and blog comments. Shit is transparent, gets discovered and tarnishes the brand in the end.

  17. my clients are always like " i want a cool flash ( site, banner, etc)". aside from k-size (as opposed to say a static gif) there's no point and it's shit for SEO/SEM.

i also like doing html emails when clients want images in the top, which won't be seen in the preview panel so if images are blocked, the user gets no content. genius.

Yeah, I've got a whole arsenal of arguments when clients tell me they want a cool all flash site. SEO is usually the one that tips them, but it never hurts to point out the long-term savings in maintaining a CMS-driven site vs. a Flash monstrosity, not to mention the ability for their users to bookmark, link to, share and print pages from their site.

  18. word. xhtml is where it's at. flash is dead.

Sometimes I wish I could smack the Montreal marketing community (agency and client side) around to knock that into their heads. People are still winning mad awards here for all-Flash sites with completely counterintuitive navigation. I feel like I'm stuck in the past.
