i am also an investment banker, but not in the 'glamorous' wall street. actually, i'm half way around the world in south east asia, and although my bonus is double my annual salary, i still get paid less than auditors working in nyc or the city. (although my lunch costs 1 USD ...)
talking about income inequality.

being indie is really funny isnt it
you either belong in the pitchfork crowd which arguably is not indie anymore
but on the other hand you stand listening to these really strange 'real' indie bands that has like demos and shit and frankly they sound really really shit and the recording quality etc. is real shit
so basically, to be indie, you either 1) stop being indie and listen to pitchfork et a. or 2) litsen to shit music

i too was about to say contact. it is a great movie. an alien movie that is not about alien (please for the love of god don't compare it to the crap 'signs'), but one that deals with faith and science in a really insightful and moving, albeit not overly hollywoodized, way.

c'mon guys
it's definitely better than lost in translation
agree .. the tie-ins were kinda weak but u know the message is quite good--although perhaps a bit obvious and convoluted--but it's nice nonetheless. the ending only has to be like that cus it's a hollywood movie, what more do u expect
good, enjoyable, and nice looking.

hi all,
very, very good knowledge here. and all your works are just awesome.
one quick question though, i am really digging the instruction to 'learn with either 35mm or 50mm' first.
the problem is this... i heard that for dslrs, u have to multiply the focal length by 1.3 or 1.5 because the censor size, etc. (im a newb) so that means 50mm used with dslrs will not actually be 50 mm but more like 60 - 70mm?
does thtat still mean i can still buy 50 mm to use with D80 and to learn with it? thanks!

there's also another shop called 'sneakers villa' or smth similar at siam sq. (not sure what soi it is)
it is next to a shop selling japanese denim (e.g. evisu and samurais)

u know, i think ockid is quite sincere and he knows exactly what he'll be doing. who cares if he's not 'street' or if his stuff aren't really 'street'. he's just doing what he likes, and isn't that the point of doing something. he's still young too, but you don't get get these kind of wide-eyed delusion that comes from kids this age--he's aware of what he i scapable of and knows how he could go about making that happen.
that said, still not feeling the tees. the typography could be better really. and more originality would help.

i think they look nice a bit loose ... kinda 19cm dior-esque low crotch effect
anyone agree with me? or u think they should be worn super tight?

AP is definitely a notch up from chopard, IWC, and definitely breitling. it is in the league of patek and vc.
i think you should also try jaeger le coultre lines .. especially master compressor series for a dressy sports watch (or a sporty dress watch?). i also for a dress watch, breguet is definitely one of the classiest out there.

u know i suspected there would be some rich ass bankers here and i was right
i'm also a banker, but a poor one cus i'm just a lowly analyst working in a developing country ('emerging markets' lol) so my salary is like 1/5 the analysts working in wallstreet/city
but cost of living is low enough so i can afford some denims, yeah.

i think morrmusic, cco, fat cat, et. al are the best bunch of 'experimental music'
they are listenable while toying with the avant garde
of course, they are not extremely experimental per se, but i think it best embodies the direction how cutting edge blends with pop well

i also think the movie is not that great. the very superficial portrayal of tokyo makes the movie extremely shallow. the westerner-ridiculing-asians doesnt help. for movie with long meaningless scenes, it is crucial that the characterization and dialogue are believable, truthful, and credible. otherwise, it will be very plastic, like this film, despite great cinematography and memorable soundtrack.
the scene with mbv's 'sometimes' is superb, while on the other hand the scenes where scarlet johansson is so 'touched' by the 'authenticity' of the buddhist temple in the otherwise 'sterile' tokyo is just PAINFULLY AWFUL--and is ironically extremely pretentious.
the movie is more of a pieced together sketch/mv's than a coherent whole.

i think you should explode the siam sq. area more

dear all,
im going to hk this weekend for a bigggg shopping trip. i want to buy some items that i can't get where i currently live, so i really need you guys' help as it will probably be a longish time until i have such a chance again (im trying to sound desperate as to get some help). plus, i don't really know my directoins around hk, so please help me!
im looking for the following items:
1. nudie jeans -- from their website, i see that they are selling their jeans at 'SEIBU'. is this store easy to find? are there any other places that sell nudies in case SEIBU doesnt have what i'm looking for? thanks
2. apc jeans -- i see they have 3 stores here. are they easy to find? thanks
3. visvims -- is it possible to get these in HK? please advise
4. headporter -- these too?
5. vans -- i can't find a vans store in HK from vans' website. but i reckon they should not be hard to find will they? are there any good streetwear stores that stock lots of vans that anyone can recommend me? im esp. looking for chukkas and marc jacobs old skools.
6. take five jeans store -- is it easy to find? thank you
if anyone could suggest more interesting places to visit, i'd be really happy. please take pity on me as this would be the only chance for me to get some nice stuff!!!
thanks

a bit of a 'boring' reply ...
education-wise, i think english education is pretty much self-study as opposed to the american spoon-fed system. you have to have a certain amount of discipline since, for example, at the LSE there are practically NO HOMEWORK, etc. and the one final exams at the end of the year account for 100% of your grade.
i'd leave you to make your own judgement whether that is good or bad
