  1. And fit pics. Apologies for bad pics, had to brighten the shit outta these, but you get the idea.

Fit is perfect. Honestly, I think this is the best thing going for Ooe. Their 01XX fit is one of the best version of a late 40's early 50's cut I have seen.

  2. Is there any other detailing that changes from the 01 to 02 aside from rivets vs. bartacking?

Pretty sure the 02 is more tapered, a la a 66 style fit. The 01 is very straight with a pretty wide hem.

  3. i have had a long appreciation for single malt scotch. i prefer the islay malts for the seaside smoke and peat. laphroaig does being the most obvious tasting something like smoked kelp, ardbeg and talisker both being somewhat smoother. highland park is another that i enjoyed having that salty sea air.

i am suprised to see people talking about having single malts either neat or on the rocks, even at 40% alcohol by volume the ethanol taste would overwhelm some of the more subtle flavours [may as well add some vodka], and the cooling properties of ice mask most of the aromatic qualities [why not have a good wine with ice]. just a splash of water seems to bring out the best in a whisky, allowing one to enjoy everything that it has to offer.

I agree with a splash. There is a very noticeable change in the flavor profile when you add a dash of water. it really does open it up quite a bit. I've been kind of intrigued by some of the non-traditional notes I've found in some single malts recently. Yamazaki has a kind of woody/slightly bitter note that is pretty different. Achentoshan (12 year I think) also has a sort of off-sweet note that is really nice. Slightly anise-flavored. I'm also a fan of the briney Islay malts. Something to keep your palate interested.

  4. Anyone know if the hawaii's and okinawas are the same denim?

yeah, totally different. hawaii is right hand twill. super splotchy (in a cool way). oki is left hand twill and a darker blue.

  5. My experience has been that a "hot soak" almost NEVER gets all the shrinking out of the way. This has happened with about 3 or 4 pairs now. I think the best is a hot wash, however if you have used bleach on any other loads of laundry recently you can get nasty results from the wash. Solution: adding boiling water constantly to a hot soak and agitating. This has worked pretty well for me. That said, I still prefer the results from a hot wash.

  6. I've heard the rainbow okis are RHT, but I can't recall entirely. Otherwise, yeah, Okinawa denim is LHT.

Actually, I think most of the Okinawa models are RHT. All the mud dyed, green tea, etc are RHT, as are the rainbows. I think the only ones that are LHT are the standard okinawa model and those natural indigo leepros.

  7. I'm here, teaching rather than a student now, though

I TA'd a class last semester, someone wrote on my evaluation, "good job teaching, but your WAYWT fits need work"

are you superstalking me or did that actually happen to you? I TA too. nobody has dropped a SF reference though.

  8. Most of the Ooe denim I've seen definitely has a more vintage look when faded. Mine are developing contrast, but it looks much more like a pair of vintage levis than a pair of super contrasty flatheads.

  9. this is absurd. it is well established that expensive repro denim is not more durable than STF levis. To say that they are both made of canvas, so they are both the same (quality) shoes is ridiculous. People hype out over visvims... people hype out over all sorts of things. the myth that we buy expensive denim because it lasts longer or whatever was debunked long ago....

  10. I know i'm like 20 pages too late on this, but why not stick with one of the new jp cuts with lht? those have lee - inspired details... i'm thinking some kind of combo of the jin series and the new jp series. i like the pockets on the new jps better than the jins but i think the rivets and the exposed selvedge are cheesy. anyway, i think that would be my ideal...
