  1. id go w lx5

its pretty much better at everything.

    20% larger sensor

    more manual controls

    larger wide angle

    closer marco

    60 fps exposure time

    its also slightly slimmer

    lx5 > s95 no doubt

n for tho 4 / 3 cameras there a reason why no "big brand" cam companies have bought into the hype.

2x crop factor pretty eliminates a full range of lenses. not much of a interchangeable system.

only company who's doing it right for that compact range would be leica and its range finders

ill be holding by breathe until something comparable to that arrives.

  2. kind of off-topic

im doing an BA environmental geography program right now, but i recently finished a few landscape architecture courses and got really hooked into it.

Im wondering what programs in the states offer a Masters program in Landscape Arch. that is for non- B.LA students?

depends how talented / gpa / gre scores you have but GSD / UPENN are argueably the most advance / future thinking program in the nation right now. James corner ( field opersation ) designer of the "high line" is the dean at UPENN so you can have an idea of the work that will be coming out of PENN.

At the GSD well, all this crazy computer scripting so the story goes, is that in the urban design / landscape architecture program where mass data is repetitivetly, parametric design was used first to generate design, which was later used in architecture.

your question is rather vague .., because there are literally 100's of school that offer MLA options.

If you have more focus question you can message me if you like ( my undergrad background is in L.ARC ) . I am also receiving my master in architecture. and have my been accepted into most of the top tier architecture schools and can speak a lot about there open houses / program structure

    @ tarotron

I have nothing but good things to say about the UCLA ( undergrad ? ) program. In the first graduating class 2 people in the same application cycle got into princeton ( out of a class of 15 ), 2 in gsd , 2 into columbia, 2 ucla , 1 yale. Its no joke. You get top tier facility. and top tier graduate level critics.

from what ive noticed is that you either A embrace the true life of a architecture student at ucla or your a typical UCLA student, etc. the former will result in admissions to some of the best schools in the nation and the latter you can say you graduated from UCLA.

you can also ask me question more questions about the undergrad program, one of my classmates is from the first graduating class.

    good luck

  3. finally glad to see this thread be brought into the contemporary...

without all that cliche discussion on modern architecture...

Denari is by far one of my favorite architects, but as a professor you can see that his level of intellgence isnt on the same level as thom maynes.

Mayne as a way of understanding thing without effort

Denari on the other hand just wont get things if his not his own work.

And if you aesthetes are up for a bit more looking, I posted some new works on my completely revamped website (also would love comments / suggestions on website itself while PHP coding is still fresh in my mind, so shoot away). Good reads there, too, for those into mind defecation...

    hey winst,

just wondering what program / web server are you using to produce your website?? i love... the way it looks and would like to do something similar....

    thanks in advance!

  5. i've shot 50mm 1.8 on a 20d for a second, and its all about how you compose your shot.

50d for that price is pretty good.

and the 50mm retains its value pretty well.

id do that combo if i was you, and if you really want to just work with that for a few months until you can afford something better

  6. that new morphosis in texas is quite beautiful.

i think tom is still design what he believes in.

to him his building does not need to be beautiful as long as it serves its purpose.

theres nothing generic about there designs, just because they dont look like spaceships doesnt make it any less fantastic

  7. just came back on a 50+ mile ride on my fixed gear...

my question is do you think the same 50 miles would have been easier on a road bike?

the terrain was pretty much flat the whole way expect for a few freeway over passes

  8. I'm considering purchasing a Canon 35 1.4L. Can any sufuers who've used it tell me what they think of the lens?

    Thanks.

    jewbagel

i own a 35L and pretty much shoot exclusively with it on my 40d body it gives a near 50 mm lense with that body type so perfect for almost any kind of standard shooting.

image quality is superb... if you want to look at some sample shots with that lense. search my name under this thread and most if not all of the recent shots have been done with a 35L

ps. if you have a hassabald? whats the point of a 35L?

  9. i would like to say your understanding of design does change once you study ,understand and are exposed great architecture. This is why at my school we visit great architecture and have case studies, once you absorb it, your palette for design becomes larger.

i must disagree, first if you call architecture art, you are wrong, architecture is architecture, and art is art.

art exist for no other reason then to exist for itself and serves no other purpose, so therefore anyone can judge art. Art is about revealing emotion or to appeal to a sense. Architecture is so much more then this.

Architecture is so much more complex.

you need a little bit of expertise to fully understand true beauty in the concept of form and the logic of space.

Anybody can say ya, that looks beautiful. but very few and truly understand why its beautiful.

architecture is not art, there are aspects of art in architecture, but if anyone is looking at a building with this singular aspect taken into account, they are already ignorant and therefore have bad taste.

    neways...

  10. Have you seen this in person? I have to say that I'm actually a big fan of it.

i took it one step further i've studied it.

its ok, but far from seminal, or should be mimic for principals of design.
