  1. You weighing yourself?

The amt I stated is accurate, though your thirst will vary, but that is different than fluid loss and replacement.

Whatever, hope you guys are plannin on riding all winter!

No, honestly, it does vary. I understand what you're saying about thirst, but my sweat rate varies from 8-10 oz./hour to 20 oz./hour. If I tried taking in more fluids than that, I'd get GI issues. Trust me...triathletes are an obsessive group of nutjobs that will measure every quantifiable thing under the sun.

  2. Don't forget cash, photo ID and a cell phone. Those are very important. If I didn't have my cell phone with me during one of my rides this year, I would have lost a lot of blood and would not have been found for a few hours.

    Serious bidness.

Also, I wouldn't necessarily say that you need x amount of water per hour as a general rule. Temperature, sweat rate and effort factor enormously into that equation. For instance, I rode 70-odd miles once or twice a week for about 6 months and my hydration needs varied wildly on those rides. One day, I went out with 2 24oz. bottles on the back and 32 oz. in between my aerobars. I drank ONE of those 24 oz. bottles. Another ride, I finished almost all of my drank at the 40 mile mark.

If you're going to make long-distance rides part of your life, figure out your sweat rate. I know it sounds corny, but that has helped me a lot this past year.

Also, if you snap a spoke and your wheel goes out of true to an unrideable level, your wheel is tensioned way too high. One spoke should never cripple a wheel. I lost 1 of my 20 spokes on a front wheel and rode home just fine. That said, I wouldn't ride that thing any further than home before you get it repaired.

Every time you ride, you should have a multi-tool, 2 tire levers, patches/tubes, pump/C02 cartridges, money, and a cell phone. That and a tail wind.

  3. My stable (and gf's by proxy) has grown a bit since I was last here.

Yellow one is an Argon 18 Mercury. Did Ironman Wisconsin on that one this year.

Blue guy with pink B43's is an old Trek 5200 frame (Lance's 2001 ride in the TdF) that I built up into a fixie for her. I got myself a White Industries Eno hub and build those wheels for her. Because I love her and shit.

The other one in that picture is my fixie. Probably have better pictures of it somewhere.

That last one is the Madone 6.9SSL that is being built for me. Being sponsored makes that "affordable!" Yes, it has brakes, but they don't show in that picture for some reason.

  4. I've been wearing my old AW's a lot lately. After 3-4 years, they're just starting to show some fading. I rock my purple pockets like I'm in prison and bitches are hanging off that shit. Ande, you're still my favorite person from that part of the world.

  5. Ivy league for undergrad is absurd. If you want the quality of education, take a look at the Public Ivies. There's a much better bang for your buck in there. For grad school, there's a lot more to it, but Ivy league schools completely lose their status at the grad level, so what I'm trying to say is that IT DOESN'T MAKE A FUCKING DIFFERENCE.

  6. I got one of those LGC belts ~ 10 months ago and it has stretched considerably. I've only worn it with my jeans, which are a night/weekend affair for me, and I have had to cinch up two holes in the belt (no change in weight). I would actually buy a little shorter than what they instruct you. I don't know if it will keep on stretching or if it just stretches to a point.

On the other hand, the thing is holding up really well and darkening nicely with age, so I can't complain about that.

I've owned mine for over 2 years and have had a very minimal stretch. Not enough for me to change holes. I also have worn it almost every day since I bought it. The only problem that I had was that the one of the two bolts near the buckle fell off. It still holds together just fine though and isn't noticeable.

  7. question for everyone: i've got a tubular wheelset and i need to put new tubulars on it. i've seen the 3 for $50 deal at yellow jersey, i'm thinking about buying from them. does anyone know if the tires are good? i don't really skid ever, so i'm deff. keeping the wheels, but i also have never installed tubulars. i'd like to learn, just want to make sure it's worth it

I can stop there on my way to class and check them out for you. Which ones are they?

  8. ^^^^^^

Love the ride...how's the comfort level on a fork with no rake? I'm also super jealous of the carbon everything that Super Record offers.

And just for good measure, your seat's too high. (10)

  9. i'm thinking about putting together a bike for a little fun over the summer. i've been riding bmx's all my life and want to try something new.

what do you guys think about this frame? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=370102445373

i only want something entry level and for the price it looks ok, but i've heard that wheel and sprocket (the seller) carries some pretty shit quality goods.

I'm about two hours away from this guy and I'm tempted to go down there myself to check it out. Seems like a pretty good deal.

  10. Are those flat spokes? They look really bombproof for some reason and I have an almost identical wheelset that doesn't seem as sturdy.

In addition, that dude's ankle is fucked.

  11. how the fuck do you brake going downhill?

are there any braking methods besides a skid stop(the one where you have lean forward and pull up with on leg). When I am going to school, people sometimes get in front of me and I cant stop in time

    .................

If you're asking this question, you NEED a front brake. Seriously, it's not "cool" to ride without a brake. You're not shaving any weight, making your bike more aero, or doing anything other than saying to the world, "The concept of bar spins appeals to me."
