to be fair - the software is the best we've ever had - design isn't their speciality - and IMHO i think this is the only forum software good enough to be able to keep pace with facebook google apple etc. as they entirely vacuum up what's left of the internetz.
intriguingly, the one thing those companies have never been able to successfully do is reproduce forum software.
anyway... rambling a bit off topic. might move these to a new thread re: supertalk update once it's all done.

I'm a fan of simple UI design, and there's no real need for "TRASHrep" and "SUPERrep" especially since they're semantically the same as "NEGrep" and "POSrep" respectively (i.e. you get the same amount of rep). Also, for me, the weird diagonal arrows are not an obvious symbol for rep unlike the up and down arrow.
Maybe they could also fix the letter avatars since they're currently pixelated and not centred. It definitely reminds me of Android's current design for contacts without a photo except I'm unsure if you can change the colour of the background on this forum... I actually liked the way they had it before because it was like Twitter where an egg is just used for those without a photo.
Not hating, but just my opinions on my experience.
FYI the updated rep is part of the new software update from the forum software we've used since 2011... the previous update we did earlier in the year was a bigger one - from 3.4 --> 4.0. this current one just installed is 4.2.5 [thats 25 incremental updates but this latest one has quite a lot of changes].
we have no say what goes in the new software so the best we can do is tweak to make it not look as crappy as the default. most of the time it's improvement to functionality and security stuff.

re the harry potter rep wizardry... seems it's definitely part of a move by the software devs towards more nuanced 'reactions' beyond just + /- [as well as a general move towards UI micro animations]so..this is the default...
vomit... so i did a very quick 30 minute redesign of the icons...
i think adding an extra degree of nuance to pos and neg is actually a good new option. if i could i'd be adding extra rep power to icons - but that ain't possible. ie. superep = 10 trash - 10. anyway maybe we can make the blue rep neutral ? [its currently +] - sort of like an acknowledgement that you have read a post - maybe icon should be a dog pissing on a tree.
as for the new default replacement user tiles - for users without pics - i tried to update these but turns out they are all .png images so i can't even change the font. and they certainly aren't great design.. but still somehow prefer to default eggs and faceless heads. anyway if members just uploaded profile pic we'd not need them.. ??
we also have UTF8 ios icons in this update [coming]... which some people will like and others hate.
we've also tried to clean up css a bit. got rid of borders etc. so it's hopefully looking a bit cleaner... [still a bit to fix] but forums are insanely fiddly to customize at the best of times.. and every time there is an update we have to redo much of it all over again.

I don’t care what anyone says on here but there is very little indeed in the way of clothing that is actually worth the RRP let alone the crazy stupid prices some are prepared to spend on in the aftermarket.I am not the normal SUFU size either so that puts me right on the outer edge of anything fitting and the whole sizing thing really gets my goat, if manufacturers, labels brands etc simply displayed in inches, or cm the actual size then we’d stand a decent chance of getting the fit right! Plus I no longer have the disposable income as I used to, so that makes me very selective these days.

05 | online forums are all about the members, threads and posts. who and what keeps you addicted?It’s very interesting to find a disparate bunch of individuals that share a common interest and seeing how they express that is rather intriguing, however there has been a surge in the uptake of the whole techwear ‘fashion’ that has brought in a slew of folk who obviously devour the culture like fast food, it’s apparent from the questions and comments that they have not had the patience and dare I say, etiquette to read up the couple of hundred pages of a thread, there’s alot of good reading and info in there.I don’t know if I’ve actually contributed any where near enough as I should, but I try to be down to earth. It's the progressive nature of the supertechwear that brings me back, to see innovation in the way textiles and technology merge and take from the past and move into the future then trickle down into the everyday is great. I try to sometimes give an alternative view or angle as I find it all too easy for some people to buy a whole outfit by the same brand and throw it on like a catalogue image, that's way too easy and, um boring in my view. I like to throw something dirt cheap and non-desirable on with other more favoured articles, but I do have to say I have no real brand allegiance. As far as I'm concerned if it looks good I'll buy it regardless of price, status or reputation. I have no issues with wearing a pair of ACRNM pants with a £2.50 supermarket branded tee! I'm not keen on brand snobbishness. After all, inspiration – especially in the techwear realm, derives from work & military surplus doesn't it?Fashion and style can be two very different things despite the incestuous relationship they have, when all is said and done when is a pair of denim jeans and a white tee not going to still look good. Timeless classic.

It’s a nice place to decompress.My history is that of old school hip hop so that is where it started proper for me back in the early 80’s, but that came out after the rise of the casual scene while at school, the whole terrace culture that was all word of mouth, sheesh, I remember when I first saw a girl wear trainers (sneakers) and you knew there and then that there was a tectonic shfting, history was being made, but I digress...

Heading out to Thailand for a few weeks. Only in Bangkok for 5 days before I head out to Samui. Where are the best current shops for Japanese denim? Will definitely go to MBK and Siam Square but open to other suggestions.
