  1. speaking of asians, after charleston i couldn't help myself but go on stormfront to have a look around...there was a thread there dedicated to the race in question...apparently there were too many "sympathizers"

anyways, always interesting to open your eyes to the diversity that is the human race and being non-white, i actually thought a few of the points had some legitimacy...too bad (for them i guess) that they are generally viewed as hardcore extremists

  2. Don't wanna turn this into a Houston discussion thread, but yeah I feel the bro vibe you guys are talking about around here. I picked the place cos the rent's fairly affordable, and it's close to work. Guy did a good job designing it too imo.

Thanks for the tips on joints to check out. I've been playing hermit a lot cos the work crowd is older and my mates are mostly married. Trying to get more social, especially with the locals, so Layne (and herpsky if you ever venture back) just shoot us a pm for a coffee or whatever.

  3. driving to a nice restaurant for gf's bday. the day was cold or my bladder was weak so i ask the waitress to show me to the bathroom immediately. she guides me down this super-long food hall and into an elevator. i'm dying already. and then this old guy walks up so we hold the door open for him. by the time the elevator gets to the floor where the bathroom is i'm on the absolute verge. since the old guy came in last he got to go out first. there's only one fucking urinal so he takes it. i see two shitters with the doors closed and feel okay with my chances. nope. both were occupied. old dude was just standing over the urinal and i knew he was gonna take a long time. tried talking to him so i could go first. (priorities right?) he either plain ignored me or had hearing problems. i think about just shoving him aside so i can go, but i remind myself this is a civilized place. i look around and see if i can do it in the sink. it was too awkward of an arrangement to execute 'smoothly'. so panic starts to set in, and then mother nature decided to do its thing while i'm just standing there. i curse to myself repeatedly. i think the old guy can hear me now. so too the fellas behind the closed doors in the shitters. the ones i banged on moments earlier. nonetheless, it was a mixture of shame and relief. i go back up the lift and walk across the dining hall, ask the valet for the keys as i had a change of clothes in the car. lucky i drank plenty of water that day and it didn't smell, and lucky the pants were black so it wasn't obvious. happy birthday bae. and sorry that the meal was average.

  5. Taleb didn't need the 500 plus pages to make his point.

Any substantial body of text can more often than not be condensed, but yes, there's plenty of the same sentiment out there for this and his other books too. I actually like how he's drawn it out. Maybe I'm just slow, but taking time to read about a particular idea over a longer time allows time for it to soak, and give the mind an opportunity to explore it further and deeper.

  6. Liked The Black Swan, and then stumbled across this at the airport and started getting into it during the 6 hour flight delay. Good stuff so far but let's see where he takes it. Reviews on Goodreads are averaging just shy of 4 so am hopeful this is going to stay enjoyable.
