  1. the monthlies have not really been doing it for me lately. I am a lot more hyped for Secret Invasion than I am Final Crisis... I have no idea what the hell FC is going to be about. The DCU seems really fucked up right now, so anything short of ANOTHER continuity revamp seems unlikely.

Just read Black Hole... that was DAMN creepy. good, but creepy.

  2. I think it depends on the look you're going for. Given your size, I would think that you'd fit into the more "regular cut" jeans (i.e. the classic 501) better than a skinny weakling like me would. If you want something that looks a little more modern and sleek, then yeah I guess nudies would definitely do it. but I think that at your size, wearing something like Samurai 510's (which are regular cut) or Duckdiggers would look really good too.

I go back and forth a lot. When I get up in the morning, I try and think about where I'll be going or what I'll be doing in the day. if it's going to be running errands, doing chores, etc then I'll go with some repro denim. My rationale is that the Japense repros a) fade better B) are a little bit looser and therefore allow to move around more and c) can handle wear and tear a little bit better. If I'm going to a party or going to eat out some where nice, I usually go for the sleeker stuff.

  3. ^ I think they look good. I like that they are going a little bit out of their way to establish a brand identity. While "authenticity" and all that is nice, it's also nice to have a pair of jeans that make you feel that you are buying a special product.

  4. I've heard a few tracks here and there. I think "Portishead" is still a better album... it's a lot tighter and sleeker. I'll reserve judgement until the drop, but so far I'm not liking it that much.

  5. anyone have any opinions on flightjacket.com's A-2's? I can't remember if I heard about them on here or through a goggle search, but the price, at least, seems good to me. Any opinions on how their hides stack up to other manufacturers?

  6. I've read through pretty old copies of the trade (like ones printed in the early to mid 90's) and it never seemed to me like the effect of the coloring was purposely anachronistic. It seemed to me like that was about as high tech as coloring was at the time.

Same with Gibbons. It's not like he was purposelly drawing anachronistically. It's just his drawing style. He recently did a backup in Green Lantern Corps and it looks exactly the same as his style back then.

  7. The pictures definitely piqued my interest, but I remain cautiously optimistic. The best possible outcome would be for the movie to not suck.

what happened to the whole freaky colour-scheme the graphic novel employed?

That, my boy, is because the book was originally printed and coloured in the days of the dot matrix printer. Ever since maybe the late 90's Comics started being coloured through computer programs. This has allowed for more subtle nuances in coloring and has even begun to affect the line art itself (i.e. some pencillers now leave details such as face shading and smoke effects to the colorists).

The somewhat garish color palette of the original Watchmen, therefore, is a product of the technology at the time. I find it charming and even essential to the story; since Watchmen is so firmly set in the 80's, it only makes sense that the comic LOOKS like an 80's comic. I do appreciate DC's later efforts to tweak some of the colors and make things look a little bit smoother, but I think it would lose something if the whole thing was just completely recolored.

A book like Sandman, on the other hand, would definitely benefit from a huge recoloring overhaul... some of the coloring in that book is pretty awful, imho.

  8. ^yeah thanks for the reccomendation, tangerine also told me to try those out! Are there different washes? The leg on those is nice, not too slim. Good rise too.

The Nudies I wore 4-5 times a week for like three months, until I got fed up and threw them in the wash. I still love them because they're the most flattering jeans I own, I think I'm going to get another pair when at American Rag. They stretch like two sizes though, I washed them so they'd shrink up.

The Proportion of Blu's I honestly haven't worn that much since I got them in December, though I should. The hem is sliced off and cuffed and the leg is just a bit bootcut, they're perfect, just no fading yet.

The problem may be the type of denim that you have. I think most Thin Finns have some lycra in them (I don't know anything about proportion of Blu, though). Jean with stretch in them tend to fade slower than jeans without. This is because there is less abrasion because of the give of the fabric. If you're looking for something that'll fade a little faster, try something without stretch. I don't know if those Lindas have stretch, but those might be worth a try. Nudie Grim Tims are pretty much the same fit as Thin Finns, but without the stretch and with different back pocket placement, so those might be worth a shot.

It is also worth noting that stretch denim DOES fade, just slower. My gf developed some nice honeycombs on a pair of sevens that she had, much to my jealousy/pride

  9. retail is highway robbery. $800 for a belt? get real.

nice pieces though, and probably one of the only American brands to really get down the Amerikaji look. The stores are also fun to look through... there's a mix of new and vintage stuff.

Denim is nice, but I wish it was less colorfast... dang things are hard to fade!

  10. Love the caption on the first pic:

"Workers at this jeans factory in the Chinese boomtown put out 10,000 pairs a day, almost all of them in the fashionable "distressed" style. "

Makes it sound like distressed jeans are from like 100 years in the past... "Ah yes, I remember when we wore jeans distressed, as was the fashion of the time."

  11. Yoooo, I just picked up a pair of 660's from BIG and was wondering how long you guys soaked your's for maximum shrinkage? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    yoyoyoyoyoyoyo-

    Two options:

    1) soak on the hottest water you have for 3-5 hours (some say overnight even), changing water so that it stays hot

    2) throw it into your washing machine, wash hot with a little detergent (to remove excess starch).

No matter what, there will be shrinking left through the next 2-3 washes, but either of those will get most of it out.

    wow, it's been a while since I answered a shrinkage question... I'm getting soft...:D

  12. tod's are always a safe choice. car shoe, I think, did one of the first driving shoes ever, so try them too.

be warned: driving shoes are horrible for walking around in. there is no padding whatsoever. they're really more appropriate as house shoes/slippers...

  13. Very late, it's really funny that they are even posting this at all... I think brown shoes and black pants looks really good in certian situations I guess, all the girls in NY with their skinny black jeans and brown boots look pretty damn good to me.

Brown shoes with grey looks great, but I agree on the navy, they look perfect with navy.

^ +1 to all of this

  14. ^ how did you like their selection? was it pretty good? also, how was the service (i.e. eye check up etc.)

if you were pretty happy with your experience I may trek down there... otherwise, it's a bit of a haul for me from work.

I refuse to go back to Cohen's after some dude basically cracked my fucking frames in two places, while demonstrating to me how brittle my frames were. WTF. all I did was walk in to get them adjusted...
