  1. News alert..

After a long phone conversation with the president of Skull Jeans, Self Edge has been blessed with a Skull Jeans account.

Our first shipment of jeans should be here by Monday or so.

    5010, 5507, and Linda

After those three arrive we'll be bringing in shirts shortly after.

    :)

  2. I am really considering buying these... but i am concerned they may be too tight. I have never really liked super slim or tight in the legs jeans.

I wear a size 34 in Sugar cane 1947 and the legs are almost perfect (a little baggy)

Would a size 34 in Flathead 3001 be way too tight in the legs (i have big thighs)

    thanks

If you have large thighs i would stay FAR from the 3001. It's quite a slim cut, especially for a denim company that specializes in more classic cuts from the 40's to the 60's.

I normally recommend Sugarcanes to people with larger thighs. If you already have a pair of the 1947 i'd check out the Hawaii, Union Star, or Okinawa.

  3. How strange that just today this article was printed in today's San Francisco Chronicle...

It doesn't look too good for The Gap...

    http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/01/22/BUGIENN18C4.DTL

Kinda sad considering they played such an important role years ago to bringing denim to a larger audience; my mom used to buy me my jeans at the Gap on Geary Street in the late 70's and early 80's... Even their original era of being a Levi's only reseller in San Francisco is forgotten these days..

  4. It was either take off the tabs, and sell the jeans with the arcuates fully intact or destroy the jeans.

those were the two choices i was given, in reality they wouldn't have been destroyed, they would have been taken home and added to my collection. not sure if i needed another 100 pairs of jeans added to my collection in one day though.

then after two days i was told i could not sell the jeans at all, tab or no tab. i was told i had to take the arcuates off too. but i refused, at which point the product was removed from the store.

  5. If you're in the retail world and you truly believe that this selvege line (which as I've said, they've been doing for a long time) is a "flop", you must not grasp how multi-national corporations work. When items are priced at a huge chain like Gap, or Abercrombie, etc., everything is priced to counterbalance clearance items. Not to mention the fact that almost every single item that you will ever see on clearance will STILL be showing a profit for the company, due to the low cost of production/labor.

Basically, you're taking a boutique mindset to a corporation that could buy and sell every small retailer in America. It doesn't work the same way.

I understand how the corporate retail system works, i did consulting before starting my small boutique stores.

May i ask, do you have experience in the corporate retail field?

The reason i refer to the Gap's selvedge line as a "flop" is because that is how my two colleagues that are employed by the Gap's corporate office refer to the line as. The jeans did not perform as expected, hence them being available at such a low cost in full size runs at stores all around the country.

  6. To those that thought i was being harsh, i warned you in the first line of my post...

Like Kelvin said, this was the outcome of a multi-million dollar business' marketing team on a huge budget that turned out to a bit of a flop; especially considering they're now marked down to under $40 and they still have them in full size runs everywhere.

I was just having some fun and making a few observations.. nothing to get worked up over.

    :)

  7. I gotta agree. It should have been addressed up front.

Actually, we tried to make sure that everybody that ordered a pair after the lawsuit was filed knew that their jeans might be from a batch with no tabs on them. Anybody that was NOT notified totally has the chance to return them to us with a full refund.

I apologize if anybody got theirs and is not satisfied, we had no intention of tricking anybody. You must understand that the last seven days at Self Edge have been beyond hectic and nervewracking and we apologize for any mishaps.

    :)

  8. While reading my following post, please keep in mind that i'm just being nit-picky,

    i don't truly

believe that a company as large as the Gap is going to properly represent a niche

    item like Selvedge

Denim. Ironically enough, Gap spent their first five years in business selling

    only Levi's jeans

    from 1969 to 1974.

    =-=-=-=--=

I've been very curious about the Gap Selvedge Denim that was released last year,

    but hadn't gotten a

chance to see it in person. A friend bought a pair on sale for about seventeen

    dollars just so we

can analyze it and see Gap's take on selvedge in person.

Just like i expected, the denim is strange.. They claim it's raw, but it definitely

    has to be one

wash because not only do the denim fibers seem a slight bit broken but the rear

    patch is slightly

worn in. The cut is shapeless and baggy and the inside waistband has the obligatory

    kanji

    characters silk-screened onto it.

    CIMG0579-737207.JPG

There's a metal disc attached to the belt loop, this is where the misinformation

    is printed which

i'm going to break down line by line. Here goes..

"Selvage seams are a sign of high quality denim."

Ok, so while this is not totally wrong, it's very misleading. It says to the

    general public that

just because a pair of jeans are selvedge, that they are of a higher quality. This

    is a common

misconception among people just new in the denim world. You can have selvedge denim

    that is

absolute garbage in many senses, and you can have NON-selvedge denim that is unbelievable

    in weave,

    quality, color, etc...

"They're extra durable and designed to keep the fabric from unraveling."

Once again, totally false. There is no scientific proof that selvedge denim will

    last any longer

than non-selvedge denim. Besides the durability statement, selvedge denim was not

    "designed" to

keep the fabric from unraveling. Denim made on projectile looms do not unravel

    because they're not

selvedge. I find it very funny that they boast their selvedge denim doesn't

    unravel.

"Our selvedge jeans are made with premium ring-spun yarns on narrow vintage

    shuttle looms"

How many denim geek terms can they throw into one sentence to confuse the general

    public into buying

their poorly made and poorly cut jeans?

    "more sizes at gap.com"

    No thank you.

  11. Sorry, maybe i jumped the gun on that one..

but when you open up your online store and the first response is "why are you selling sugarcanes for 265?" when in reality every other store in the Western Hemisphere is selling them for the identical price, it can be a little frustrating.. all the while Levi's is trying to destroy my life. haha...

long story short, we're adding more products every few days or so.. we're going to stick to the free shipping worldwide thing, and eventually they'll be enough people that see the benefit from buying from Self Edge that everything will be dandy.

    :)

superfuture meeting, in two hours, at Self Edge.

    see you all then.

  12. Hey guys..

not sure if you noticed or maybe you've just lost the ability to read..

but Self Edge, BiG, and five japanese denim manufacturers have been sued this week. Therefore making it very risky, and a bad move on our part, to launch our store with the intended brands such as Flat Head and Iron Heart...

So therefore, deal with this for now, and shortly we'll be offering Iron Heart and Flat Head...

We might start selling Nudies next week too..

Not a huge deal for Superfuture heads, but a huge deal for the rest of the world that buys up Nudies like there's no tomorrow.

You could buy from Japan, but keep in mind that the general public appreciates that our site has things to offer that others don't. things such as..

    -our site is in english

-we have measurements for every product in EVERY size the product is produced in

-you can pick up the phone and call us and have a real time conversation with a person that can answer all your questions and help you in choosing something you're really going to enjoy

    -we allow exchanges

    -we offer free shipping worldwide

-we will have exclusive jeans only available at Self Edge from Iron Heart, Imperial, and Sugarcane

-we're working day and night to make these products more accessible to the western world

Regardless, glad to see everybody is hating on us after all this.

  13. I will not allow this thread to degenerate into a "i know something you don't" fight between members.

there are seven entities being sued, if you're not one of them, you probably don't have "sources" to brag about.

In terms of companies not named in the lawsuit, it's a moot point, why even bring it up?

In terms of "smaller companies" not caring about this lawsuit.. It doesn't get any smaller than Iron Heart, they produce less jeans than ANY Japanese denim manufacturer that is talked about on Superfuture. And yes, they have already given confirmation that they are complying with Levi's wishes.

This thread is so that we can bring you up to date information about the case, and the upcoming cases being brought upon companies next week. It is not so that members can say "i've got information, but can't share it"

  14. I have actually been told otherwise by someone.. but I can't say more right now.

Not meaning to pick a fight here, but i spent a total of ten hours on the phone yesterday deep into the night with the President of Flat Head (masao kobayashi), the owner of Iron Heart (name withheld), a representative from Toyo/Sugarcane, and the co-owner of Imperial (cameron).

if those four sources aren't as close to the truth of what's really going on, i don't know who is.

trust me when i say, things are about to change starting right now.

  15. Am i reading this right?

are you all complaining about prices?

    on superfuture????

I don't find the prices for their new collection to be out of line with prices from the past. You can't really complain about a twenty dollar mark up from the past, prices go up for many reasons, one of them could be that they're trying to calm down the storm of purchases by raising their prices to stay exclusive. As ugly as it sounds, you'd be surprised how many designers do this on purpose.

  16. I'm quite sure there is no danger involved, at least for people outside of the US.

I think the Japanese versions will not change either.

I'm afraid you're very wrong with that statement. The violations i've outlined on the front page will be affecting these manufacturers through and through. Read my first post on the previous page, the companies are changing their designs for the entire world.
