  1. I don't think Cone had a P number with the Lot 44s. Same fabric as 54s.

Looks like a superb choice Hog.

Great to see some love for the Calis again. I love the approach with these jeans, what with the story of finding the materials in old warehouses and stuff. I know this sounds like heresy but the JP fascination with creating denim perfection (in line with the old ways) is slightly artificial in comparison. So the denim may not be as 'interesting' but the fit and idea behind it all means a lot more to me.

edit: just seen re. Cone. Yes, that sounds right.

  2. tell you what, i will find out about the machines and report back! i have my ways!!!

Please do. Lots of big (no pun intended) talk so far but most of your arguments have simply been to rubbish others than to come up with something substantial. I am genuinely interested in this subject so am also interested in what you come up with.

  3. Big Truck, take your Chinos to Denim Doctors in LA. They moved my pockets, reused the Buzz rivets and hemmed my Riders Dungarees for $65.

They looks as good as when I first bought them. And they look so much better without a cuff!

Thanks for that, I wish I could 'take' them there but its a few thousand miles from Leeds, England! Shipping them over might make it a bit cost-prohibitive. I dont mind cuffing them a bit but it's not ideal.

  4. I don't know about their business model but the store is appears to have more vintage pieces than MF pieces (although the ratio is presumably moving towards a more equal split as the number of collections grows). They have stuff from previous seasons including some very early stuff if you are lucky.

Vintage stuff is eclectic - lots of military gear, old work boots, cowboy boots, naval stuff, the odd pair Sugar Cane and Full Counts (at least when I was there).

  5. I think it is just another example of the internet, whilst being a great source of information etc, leading people to behave very poorly. I am assuming that he does not speak to people face to face like he does on here but you know what make assumptions does...

Which is weird because he is obviously quite knowledge.

  6. That's too bad hog. If the other inbound parcel is pants of the same size, not bound to be too big, just depends on what they are. Fingers crossed.

Indigo - did you wash your 44s?

  7. Truck, at how many degree C did you wash them? 60C?

I got a pair of the 54s in 32 and they're a bit tight in the waist, but ok and perfect in the thighs and everywhere else.

I got a pair of 44s in P8 or 9 I think in 34 and even after two hot soaks the waist and thighs are too big. Perhaps some agitation and a bit more temperature might do the trick, but I'm hestitant about putting them in the washing machine.

It was at 40 degrees and they have been washed maybe 3 or times since just to get them shrunk back down a bit. Now, I have actually tried the P9s before and they were a bit of a slimmer fit for me in the thigh when I tried the rinsed version. For various reasons I ended up with P10 but from memory (if you can rely on that), the P9s were definitely slimmer then (after the in-store soak/wash) than my P10s are now.

  8. I dont see where Kiya proclaimed the FH were 'experts'. He is simply saying that they have a machine that does X and Y and no-one else does.

Isn't the problem with the internet that it allows people to regurgitate information which they have gained through research (whether in-depth or not) irrespective of whether the issue in hand actually calls for that. Literally firing information which has only the loosest of connections to the issue? This is not a dig at you whatever, just a general rant re forums generally. And yes, I have considered the inconsistency between the point I make and the context of my rant.

  9. Yes I think you're right, cold soak is recommended but that is due to unpredictable nature of the old fabrics. If they are a touch too big, simply buy a plaid shirt, some engineer boots and go see Brian in Leeds Market who will cut you a quiff. Sorted.

  10. Well I think you should be OK but I only achieved significant shrinkage with a good hot wash. It depends on whether you are averse to such things and would only soak. I'm not so usually do a soak to see how much shrinkage I get and if there is little (so they are still a bit big), into the hotpoint they go. It depends on what you fit you are after. Sizing down would work for me but then it presents the jeans as a fairly standard straight fit. Not what I am after.

I have the same experience with stretching too. 35 or 36 waist is not unusual. At least it is an excuse to use the cinch (which is sharp as!). Good luck and enjoy them.

  11. Slab - they look excellent now. A much nicer boot after the re-sole and the polish job really lifts these boots. Always thought that some of the Alden models really captured the smart/vintage look more than Whites do and, without exaggeration, are some of the nicest boots I've seen.
