Im looking to score a fun techy poncho for a festival up in Nigata, any pro tips on where2kop in tokyo? Staying in shibuya.

    Loft? Oshmans?

Something similar to this snowpeak, but ideally cheaper.

maybe oshmans, function junction, beaver, and such?

Coming to Osaka. Any cool shit going on I shouldn't miss? Or restaurants/bars I shouldn't miss? Traveling alone, so anywhere people might be interested in striking up a conversation would be cool, but obviously not expected.

I've been to Osaka before and have been to Nara, Kyoto, and Arashiyama. Koya-san worth checking out for a day trip? Anywhere else?

i would def recommend koya-san. place is unreal. it's a great day trip from osaka and back in the city for dinner and dranks

  3.

    4) JR Nippori to Sendagi "Yanesen" - Lots of small shops and food stands; some weird spots – skate shops, decent craft beer bars that haven't been destroyed

what are the skate shops you speak of? would like to check em out.

ya'll need to take note on herp's suggestions. always spot on

  4. idk, there's something neat/weird about osaka. it's hard to recommend if you're in Japan for a short trip, but my girlfriend and i really enjoyed the city as a detour on a longer stay in tokyo. shinsekai is cool.

i agree. i def won't recommend osaka for short visits and touristy things because it seriously lacks. i def recommend for all the things tokyo are not in the less shiny neighborhoods like shinsekai, ktown, nishinari, etc. lots of vibrant cultures in these underserved districts.

  5. I should've mentioned in my previous post that I have an unlocked iphone 6. I was able to save some cash by paying for a monthly sim card while in London.

Any recommendations for data sim cards? Having a good amount of data for maps and imessage/fb messenger would be ideal. I usually don't do voice calls so a small amount of minutes doesn't bother me. If anything, I'd use facetime audio for a voice call.

i used so-net and iijmio (cheaper). i prefer the so-net as there was no throttle..but weird since almost all these sim cards are on the same network (docomo). there's a bunch of options at the electronics shops

  6. I'm studying abroad in Tokyo this upcoming spring and I'm not sure how to handle the phone situation. My carrier in the states is Verizon but while I was in London, I had a monthly unlimited data plan with 3. Does Tokyo have anything similar? Any help would be appreciated.

i was just out there for several months and was using data sim cards which are readily available at any big electronics stores (bic camera, yodobashi camera, labi, etc). japan is still not open to temp sims that allow voice calls but slowly workin towards it

  7. I've been twice.

Kanazawa got a huge curry scene. I'd hit that up. The sushi even those that "spin" are 100x superior to what you can get in Tokyo. There's one joint I went with my folks that's like out of this world amazing. I forgot the name but people come from all over the world for this place. It's jiro-style - the chef runs the show.

Noto is pretty cool (to visit). I think a lot of people who are tired of going to the same old spots have really dug in that area recently. Noto is that peninsula.

Lots of cool jawnz to be had. It's a smaller city so it's much easier to browse for jawnz. There's another spot I fell in love with near the castle – it's a traditional wagashi sit-down place that specializes in kuzukiri. Mind blowing.

There's a place that's kind of like golden gai. It's pretty dope.

thanks for kanazawa info. gonna be traveling all around in sept with the 21 day JR pass. got any other recommendations? would love to cover as many different areas as i possibly can.

  8. also, it's fucking ridiculous. burgers are like like 1,500+ yen if you add toppings. that one place in ikejiri kinda sucked. golden brown? fuck that place

the hypetrain in japan is for sure OD. but they have a way more interesting thing going on with burgers vs NYC. NYC burgers are easily $15-$20 at the wackest cornball brunch spots with the whole neo brooklyn steez. either way i fux with burgers wherever it's good :)

  9. Like a 3/10? Definitely wasn't like a like a 3/10 trip.

A lot more stuff to do next time I suppose.

i agree w herp on that rating lol

it's not a bad introduction to tokyo, but it's like only checking times sq in NYC.
