  1. I remember going to Vice about a year ago, and found the staff really helpful. They drew out a map of all the places in the area that I should hit (Delphic, Jet Rag, Good Foot, etc.). It seemed to me that they were more interested in me finding what I wanted, than making a sale. Ended up picking up a few shirts from them though.

I'm kind of sad to hear that Jet Rag has closed down... the people were really nice there too. Got to hang out with the manager for a bit too! She was kind of cute...

  2. I don't know anywhere in the Ebisu/Daikanyama area that sells discounted Paul Smith... but from my experience, I found that Paul Smith goods are generally cheaper in Japan than in N. America. In the U.K., the prices for Paul Smith are even higher... I'm not sure why Paul Smith is cheaper in Japan, as they don't have a manufacturing plant or anything like that... The Paul Smith product I bought there was from department stores like 0101. I'm looking at a PS ostrich leather wallet, but I'll prolly wait til I go to Japan again to pick it up haha...

I think Daikanyama is the best place in Tokyo to look for small independent Japanese labels, but unfortunately, no specific stores that I can think of...

  3. Yeah, their tees have got some pretty decent graphics on them. My Graniphs haven't fallen apart on me yet, and show no signs of, so I think the quality is pretty good too. Unfortunately, they do not ship outside of Japan.

  4. Yeah, actually, I have been to the Daikanyama store. Lots to choose from, and there is definitely some nice stuff there - but the price tag on some of those pieces is just ridiculous. I'm not familiar with the Evisu denim of the 90's as I just found out about them a little while back, but I'm guessing that the denim didn't have these huge painted on gull wings spanning from the back of the pant legs crossing over the back pockets... To me, that isn't about denim, that's more of a "look at me" detail that isn't worth having at all and is just distasteful.

When I'm back in Japan, I'm going to be buying up Edwins... readily available, have got some nice cuts that work for me - and they're not as expensive as Evisu denim.

  5. Ha, yeah... That might be what I'll have to do. I'll probably soon enough run out of such missions haha... It'll be so hot, I just assume I'll be sitting in my apartment all afternoon long drinking that hopsless beer in my underwear. Not a pretty picture, people...

  6. Hey guys,

Planning a trip to Tokyo again this summer, and am still stuck between going for a month or two months... It would be different if I was going there for school or for work or something, but this is a just a big "do nothing" trip. I honestly think I might go insane if I go there for two months with nothing in mind. Just wondering if anyone's got any ideas...

  7. Ha, my bad. I just re-read your post. "Don't quite understand the ones on their site". Well, I would say that the best one to go to would be in Daikanyama cause it's a killer shopping area anyways that you'll want to hit (even if you don't find the Graniph!). But looking at the Superfuture Daikanyama map, it looks to be by the t6m store... This is just a little bit NE of the big orange 17dixsept block on the map.

  8. There's Graniph all over the place. Ha, I was just going to recite how to get to the Daikanyama store from the station from memory... poorly.. but I found that there's a store list with some light directions to them... http://www.graniph.com/shop-list/index.html Hopefully that helps!

On a side note, I found Don Quijote just creepy. Man, I went to the one in Akihabara, and there were all these girls on the top floor working at a coffee shop dressed up as police women, nurses and such. It was creepy... but kind of hot! Haha... Yeah, I still don't get it...

  9. Yeah, as mentioned... it's how you see "cheap". You don't have to go to dingy neighborhoods to get decent prices. For tees, I recommend Graniph (http://www.graniph.com). Some designer stuff like Paul Smith and Burberry, I found much cheaper in general there (I believe they have manufacturing plants in the country). Also depends on your style. In general, I think Daikanyama is a great place to shop. For shoes, you gotta go to Ueno. But seeing as you're only there for a short while, you might like the convenience of department stores... I recommend 0101 (Marui)... There's a ton of them all over... Hope that helps.

  10. Hmmm... there's actually a cheap youth hostel near Yoyogi... Tokyo International Youth Hostel, I believe it's called? Don't let the "youth" part fool you cause it's mainly middle-aged Chinese businessmen that are there. It's like 3000Â¥ a night, and you have to buy a membership for like 1000Â¥. It's clean, and cheap and in a not bad area (Sangubashi off of the Keio line). The bad thing is that you can't be in the hostel from 10:00 - 17:00 I think? You can leave your stuff there though. Unfortunately I don't know what the contact info is, but I'm sure it's out on the net somewhere. It's best to book ahead for this place too, a few days cause it fills up pretty solid usually...

  11. Ha, I think I know where you're talking about... The one hostel in Yoyogi right?

You gotta book before you get there, for sure cause it's always full. This place is close to everything too, like 3 stops (Sangubashi) from Shinjuku on the Odakyu line. It's clean and cheap, but it's kind of a pain that it shuts down for a few days of every month, and that you can't be in the place from 9am to 5pm... They will literally bang on your door to get you out of there... how they knew I was still sleeping I have no idea...

Don't stay in capsule hotels -- especially in Kyobashi. I found a roach in my capsule. Man that was a rough night.

  12. Thanks for the sites script!

Quote: how's the pricing like for cabanne de zucca? any reference?

As I remember, CABANE de ZUCCA stuff went something like about ~Â¥30,000 for knitwear, ~Â¥70,000 for jackets (?), if that helps. I only saw this label at Isetan, which is kind of a stuffy department store (well, I think so anyways). To be honest, I didn't focus too much on this label too much since I was able to get other things I also liked, for cheaper.

Yeah, Graniph tees are nice. Cheap too! The more you buy the cheaper they get... buy one for ¥2,500... two for ¥2,000 each... I also like how they have so many sizes, though I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who can fit into the SS!

  13. Looking back at some of the stuff I've bought... A.S.M., Comme ca Commune, Tornado Mart, ABX, Abahouse, Graniph, hiromichi, agnes b homme, CABANE de ZUCCA, BOYCOTT, ixi:z... Yeah, I bought a lot of stuff.

As for denim, I found a liking for Edwin Sulphur -- I guess those can probably be gotten off of eBay or something like that...

Anything similar to this would be great! Thanks!

  14. Messed. My first post and I managed to break something. My guess is that my session timed out, but I was still allowed to make the post.

Anyways, I started this thread asking if anyone knew any good online clothing sites that send out of the country. This has probably been posted to death, but I figured I'd give it a try.

I went to Japan last year and found myself liking the clothing. As far as clothes, I pretty much bought everything in Shinjuku and Daikanyama. And since I didn't know my way around, I frequented places like 0101 just because they were convenient. The style of clothing that I'm looking for falls under that category (for anyone that's been there), and I'm sorry that I can't be more descriptive than the typical Japanese mainstream fashion (slim cut jeans, tees, etc.).

    Thanks in advance!
