  1. Its illegal to sublet your apt for less than 30 days in nyc, or if you are not physically living in the apt during the sublet. Pretty much, you can report your neighbor if you have evidence, like a screenshot from airbnb. Many reasons for people wanting to report, ranging from insurance issues, people not liking strangers in their building, landlords wanting evictions because its pretty hard to evict someone in nyc, renter\owner is a asshole and their neighbor\condo board\coop board wants them gone.

  2. Airbnb sublets in NYC are illegal for the most part.  The likelyhood of ppl reporting illegal air bnb sublets are high because there is no penalty to the landlord, building management, condo or coop board, only the person renting on airbnb.

  3. so tmob only does minimally 2g when you roam with an option for 4G that you can buy via text when you roam.

This is Tmob roaming partners in Japan

    Carrier Frequency Data Speed NTT DoCoMo 2100 (3G) 3G Softbank Mobile 2100 (3G) 3G

Seems like Japan has no 2G, so I guess Tmob users will roam on 3G?

T-Mobile is, of course, willing to sell you a much faster international roaming plan: The carrier offers Speed Passes that can be used to access faster data. It charges $15 for a daily pass that gives customers up to 100MB of 4G data, where available. The weekly pass costs $25 and includes up to 200MB of 4G data, and the monthly pass costs $50 and includes up to 500MB of 4G data.

  4. Just switched to Tmobile from ATT just for the unlimited data, international data and text roaming and it is awesome.    My reception at home improved, was only getting 2bars on ATT, now 4,  but at the office it switches to HSPDA when I in the center of the building, but back to LTE near windows.  I think the international roaming is 2G/3G speeds, but with an option to buy tiers of LTE when you roam overseas, they said it will prompt you on your phone.  My LTE speeds are faster than my Time Warner speeds, kinda sad.

  5. i'm born and raised in NYC, been to all the usual good burger joints in NY and vicinity. but i gotta say Japan has better burgers in general. worth a bite i'd say.

NYC burgers tend to be simple like Lugers' burger or Minetta blacklabel, Tokyo burgers have too much going on for my taste, any recs for places that serve simple burgers with the best quality meat, aged maybe.

different strokes i guess, but if i was an american in japan for a few days i'd be wanting to eat as much soba/takoyaki/etc as possible as opposed to burgers (as much as i love them).

Seriously whenever I'm in Japan I just want to eat tsukemen, horumon, and sushi, burgers you can get anywhere in america.

  6.

Visitors need to try Royal Host for breakfast or late night grubs. I'm not even joking. You'll get a pretty good sense of how the Japanese appropriated / reinterpreted American and western food.

Another reason I'm swaying fycus from burgers, beer, and coffee  is because he's only there for 4 days. Why waste a meal on burgers if his time is short.

    How's Denny's JP?  The menu's look interesting. http://www.dennys.jp/dny/index.html

  7. I would skip sushi dai and daiwa if you dont have the patience to wait 3-5 hours on line and try to do lunch at some of the higher end places like sushi kanesaka(5000yen) or dinner at one of the more reasonably priced 2 Michelin starred places like Umi or Kimura.

Skip burgers, beer, coffee.  Coming from bay area you will be disappointed.

  8. Agreed. The dude who sent me the link lived in NYC, worked in a large finance / consulting firm, but decided to leave the city after 4 or so years of working. He is trying to steer people away from those areas for whatever reason.

I had some gwopping opp. in NYC but decided not to go. My salary won't be high enough to maintain the level / quality of living that I have right now. I just thought I'd be miserable. Not really regretting it except for the missed meeting opps with KAGs aka xiaoties.

The KAG in NYC are subpar compared to LA and most major asian cities, have a huge sense of entitlement because they're treated like 7,8s,9s by tech nerds, hedge fund dweebs, when in fact they would probably be selling senbei on side streets or pushing dim sum carts, sell vegs on the side of the road back in HK, Seoul or Tokyo.  Yeah you get paid way more in NYC and theres tons of job ops but for what I pay for my apartment I could live in a full service 2ldk in Tokyo,
