  1. i really like chiang mai, not as insane as bangkok and it's not as hot either. foreigners tend to favor the place but it's understandable why. the northeast is hot, and mostly plains, but i've heard good things about khon kaen for partying and whatnot. food in that area is probably the spiciest i've ever had to deal with tho. i can't tell you much about the south, closest i've been is pattaya (meh) but the north and such i've spent a lot of time there. pm me or something if you want moar info.

Chiangmai is fantastic, I left my heart there. Great food and agriculture produce. The food is very different from the spicy and sweet flavours of Bangkok, but more sweet and fragrant with lotsa natural herbs.

The place to go in Nimman, something like an East Village. Soi 1 and 2 has this this really authentic place selling Chiangmai food. Every dish is delicious. Down the same road is this burger bar.

For clubbing go to Warm up Cafe and Fabrique. Thai bands and electro hip hop. A whisky bottle costs only $20, what more you want in life? Lovely city!

  2. For clubbing in Bangkok, I will suggest those more Thai sort of place. Where the rich hi-so Thais hang out.

The HIPSTER party is this thing called DUDESWEET, yes with a name like that you have to be cool for school. haha. Check their facebook for the party schedule, usually takes place in an eclectic location every month. Indie post punk dance bands will be playing!!

Check out Fallabella, which is a courtyard stage concept. The girls are from rich families and are very beautiful. Its like as if they are TV stars. https://www.facebook.com/100Rajdamri

There is also this place called NUNGLEN in ekamai.

Let me know if you have any questions on BKK.

  3. hey guys what are the prices at club 21 mens like? reasonable or crazy mark ups? also are there any individual stores in terminal 21 that are good? last time i went to bangkok i saw some cool stores there but didn't have time to check out every store on each level (there are so many and they're all tiny store space!). cheers!

They are marked up. There is a high import tax on textiles. I once eyed a Yohji Yamamoto flare pants, this one below and its retailing for 1700 Singapore dollars. That probably amounts to 1200 USD? I think you are better off in Club 21 Singapore or other countries like Hong Kong during the sale.

  4. Just came back from Taipei. Fantastic city. Very charming, it has not lost its soul (unlike Singapore in many ways). It pays if you can speak Chinese or Tai-yu, everyone is friendly and honest. Great city. Wish I was living here. I got depressed after spending 5 days there.

For a more mature crowd, do check out the cocktail bars. Barkode, W Hotel WOO bar and Marquee.

Artefacts in Dong Qu or Cha Jie sells SILENT Damir Doma and many other interesting items and brands.

  5. yo, anyone in SG in a few weeks time? I'll be going for a weekend, will hit up Haji Lane and chillax at Marina Bay with some drinks.

I suppose there are nicer bars than MBS. Check out 1 Altitude, avoid fridays as the music is loud.

  6. Gangnam is the place to go. Gangnam means south of the river. Above the river, it is more old and run down.

Check out 10 Corso Como, lovely authentic italian food. Stay at Park Hyatt Seoul, man you dont wanna leave. And check out the Samsung Leeum Museum, filled with modern art. Check out the Rick Owens shop and the area around it.

  7. TO be honest, I dun think there is much shopping in KL. The only places to go are the Givenchy at Starhill gallery. Which is ok not the current Ricardo Tisci style, the more formal and older style. which is still ok.

Check out the Pavillion across the road also owned by YTL Holdings.

A place to stay at is Hotel Maya: http://www.wikichichi.com/travels/hotel_reviews/hotel_maya/review Which is the only boutique hotel thingy in KL. Right opp from Zouk.

  8. Check out www.instance.tv. Web 2.0 events, culture and urban entertainment.

Think this is a good place to add events/ exhibition info and attendance.

You can create events that you are going to, add your attendance, ask your friends along, see who is going, submit reviews and pictures.

There is also a Wiki section, have to improve on this.

  10. coincidence

i jus rented lost in transition or translation from the local dvd shop

    yeh its nice stuff

tot there is a tinge of overacting or overportrayal of the japan culture n life

several slightly magnified moments, ie. the prostitute in Bill's room shouting, the wheeling politician truck...

wish i was actually living in tokyo n go thru all these things again perhaps

then i think hiroshi fujiwara has a cameo inside in the scene where bill n scarlet were checking out the jpn bars with the locals. scarlet sat beside hiroshi.

then in the following scenes, Bill wears the nike HTM wovens...

  11. ok sorry ambush and aslyum do sell foreign stuff. i guess this is wat u mean.

But do check out the others mentioned. There are so many creatives in sg, with mad styles and crazy visions. And things are def picking up. Or you can start your own mini revolution. :)

Also this month at Singapore Arts Museum, there's a good exhibition on sg art. Some of the stuff is real nice with good local vernacular context.

  12. kiteless and others do come by rojak on 10th sept if you have the time or in singapore. at siglap.

Another note, in fact I am so tired of this whole singapore art and design scene, of its deep philosophies and people and personalities, I am thinking of taking a break for a while. My point is there is just too much. Just tat there is not enough attention and appreciation.

Tons of creative singaporeans and some doing incredible and individualistic stuff. And things are def peaking going forward. Word! Go Local!

Yeh i think zouk is the best club in singapore.

  13. I am Singaporean, and I run a website on Singaporean ART and DESIGN. www.post.fm

I would not say that there is no scene, perhaps just smaller and unfortunately underground and understated.

Who cares about Peter Saville? There are enough good artists and designers in Singapore. Its just that people do not know about them. And the media does not showcase them.

    So many to name drop.

Artists include Ling-nah Tang, Jason Ong, Theatreworks, Hong Sek-Chern, Old skool peeps like Chua Ek Kay, Goh Beng Kwan and so many others.

Other than Phunk Studio, you can check here for local designers. http://www.greendonkey.info

There are also tons of peeps do creative shit that arent big or famous yet like Vijay Singh, Anna Prvacki...

Local fashion designer Grace Tan of Kwodrent http://www.kwodrent.com/ who makes clothes out of squares and collapsibles.

    SO MANY...

There is also an event called ROJAK. http://post.fm/rojak/

Where 10 designers/ artists talk about their works.

Happening 10th Sept at Siglap. Do come by if you have the chance.

I do feel there is a whole buzz going on now with tons of peeps doing their own shit. Albeit not totally publicized but i am sure that this is the beginning of a real interesting phrase for singaporean creatives in general. People are starting to create, produce and sell their own uniquely singaporean creations. Someone like Jason Ong with his deep design philosophy is just as good as anyone overseas. http://www.post.fm/features/0805/jason.htm

Interesting retail concepts like Asylum and Surrender. Theatreworks is opening a space called 7213 at mohd sultan its seems to be positioned as a London ICA sort of thing.

Myself I have enough ideas too just a matter of resources to execute. The impt thing is to produce or recontext rather than purely consume a foreign entity.

Hence its def not tat Singapore is soulless just perhaps understated, which is not too good either. :) But things are def at a very interesting phase now.
