  1. I will be heading to Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe for 6 days in December, and would like recommendations for the following:

    Kaiseki

    Kobe beef

    Crab

    Any local delicacies

    The best temple to visit

    The must-buys

    Cool bars?

I know that there must be threads about this in the forum but I'd really like updated info for these. Thanks everyone!

  2. Nope, they're not really willing UNLESS you try to converse with some French first. After like 3 phrases they'll realise that you don't speak French and will then speak to you in English.

  3. Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can find the Neil Barrett womenswear collection in London? I remember that vogue mentioned one awhile ago but my copy has since gone astray.

    Thanks!

  4. Like other postings, Bape is in Colette (but they didn't have much when I went there in January), Dickies I don't know where, Sneaker Shops try Opium, and Ozone on Rue du Roi de Sicile.

Otherwise the Dior Homme store is great but if you want to shop there try the one off rue de Faubourg Saint Honore (not sure whehter this is the right spelling; it's on a superfuture map), as the service is better than the one on Avenue Montaigne.

Le Bon Marche on rue de Sevres is also worth going as it has quite a few good labels and is more compact and easier to navigate than la Fayette and Printemps.

Restaurants I'd recommend l'avenue on avenue Montaigne. And Fauchon at Place de la Madeline for snacks and food that you can take home.

Don't forget to go to the museum and galleries! The d'orsay museum is, in my opinion, better than the louvre

  5. You probably want to hand wash it in cold water using washing powder specifically for colour garments. I've tried putting mine in the washing machine (coz of laziness) and it came out fine but I wouldn't recommend it if you're queasy about it getting ruined. Don't wash it too often though; the material ain't that great and will wear out quickly if you wash it too much. I won't recommend dry cleaning as it is absolutely unnecessary for this sort of fabric.

  6. I've got a question along this line. I'll be heading to Tokyo next week for 5 days and I intend to stay within the city. What's the cheapest way to get around? I know there are store value cards and stuff but they seem a bit confusing at best. Any recommendations? Thanks!

  7. My tip is to make sure you send everything however cheap the item using registered mail, unless the buyer insists that you send it using normal mail. It's just a means of protecting your rights.

In addition, never, ever, agree to trade outside ebay. If someone wants to strike a deal with you, put up a private auction. The risk is just too high if you carry out a transaction without using ebay at all.

  8. I think Bape is dead because they keep recycling their designs and logos every season. It gets boring when you start noticing the print on the t-shirt you bought 2 years ago is now *updated* in this season's collection mindlessly . They have also changed the cut and quality *I think* and so the stuff has gotten a bit weird.

Other brands maintain their status by evolving and improving. I don't see that in Bape. Nonetheless, people are still buying because it's predictable and easy to carry. (I'm excluding the stupid Bape Stas and whatnot from this statement).

I am not against people wearing head to toe Bape; everyone should have their own say on what to wear; but I laugh at those people and comment on them on a message board like this because, I just cannot see the point anymore. I used to buy Bape, but eventually got disinterested, sold off my T-shirts and Baby Milo collection and moved on to Stella McCartney and Dries van Noten. I guess, in other words, I have grown up, and Bape is something that only makes sense when you are finding your feet in the fashion world.

  9. Dear all,

I am planning to go to Tokyo for 5 days, ideally from 20 - 23rd Dec. or 26 - 30th Dec. However, I want to know whether shops will be closed during that period, and whether I'll be affected by any festivals during that time of the year.

    Help appreciated!

  10. I'm guessing, and I am probably right, that H&M's business model relies on volume, not price. That means, they will be selling lots and lots of clothes at a low profit margin to make a profit. Production costs is definitely low for them, as their manufacturers supply to their stores worldwide, so there's economy of scale, which means, the more items you make the lower the cost is... by a combination of both, they make, well, a lot of money.

As for hiring Stella and Karl Lagerfeld, H&M pays them a one off design fee and it is probably not too much in relation to the hype and sales volume that they are able to generate from this extra attention. don't forget, high fashion is only high fasion because of the cut and and quality. H&M, in Stella's and Karl's cases, has the design and cut but not the quality. However, the publicity they generate will account for lots of profits and so that's why H&M can sustain and thrive.

    I hope this makes sense

  11. It's usually the people that are wearing the clothes that I can't stand.

e.g. Wannabes holding Gucci handbags in a smug manner

Guys who wear head to toe Bape whilst thinking it's cool (um, it's not cool when you're wearing all the horrible items together!)

Juicy couture - I want to kill the team that created such a blighting sight for many

  12. Go to the musems

Go have seafood and beef (check guidebooks)

Drink loads of Grolsch and Heineken (the ones produced for local market is loads better than their export version)

Go to Holland Casino and ... well try to win some money ( most people end up losing but then... nvm)

Really, do a joint. Where else is that legal?! And it's quite safe to be stoned when you are in a better coffeeshop. Make sure you ask for the best stuff they have haha

  13. I don't support fakes; they just don't have the quality and when you are, like me, a seasoned shopper who's done the research, you'll know the fakes from afar. I've tried buying a couple of fakes but I always put it aside after 2 weeks, so my conclusion is, it's not worth the money. Go for the real. If the authentic stuff's too expensive for you, then just buy less and save up for one item that you'll treasure.

As for resellers, I actually think they're justified to be here. Anyone who does economics or business will know that it's just demand and supply. If they set a high price and no one's willing to pay, the price will go down. Vice versa. In addition, if they need to queue for something, then they are putting effort into acquiring that product too! They can get their hands on the gear because they wake up earlier than you . If you don't want to queue, you pay. That's pretty fair isnt it? This is what the free market is about.

  14. Dior Homme is not only for thin people. As long as you are of reasonable build and height you can carry almost everything off (except the jeans, which even girls can fit into them). The style is subtle, yet cool. It doesn't matter who wears them. Loads of people wear Gucci and Prada and whatnot but in the end, whoever carries the gear best wins. So, give it a try. Why does it matter that trust fund babies are wearing them? They might not look as good as you in the stuff.

I think a lot of people are take aback at the price but honestly you can't find a sub for Dior Homme. Head to Paris for slightly cheaper prices.
