going to hk this weekend for 4 days (fri - tue) and

wondering about cheap places to stay.

"cheap" meaning about 650HKD/night for 2 people...

    any suggestions?

  3. thanks for the suggestion... checked out two mandarina duck shops in tokyo. they didn't have the appropriate one in stock and don't take orders either!

have to admit though, the bag that really makes my mouth water every time i see it is the grey leather one with the yellow handle... saw it at the airport in seoul last month and they have it in the roppongi hills shop now but it's entirely the wrong format for what i need. drat!

btw, if anyone else is looking for a zeroshock sleeve in A4-L size, they carry them at "mj soft" in jiyugaoka.

  4. how about a good-looking waterproof (or at least, highly water-resistant) bag that can also be converted into a knapsack if need be?

i saw a new porter bag @ tokyu hands which is a knapsack/briefcase which can accomodate a 15" powerbook (though not designed as a laptop bag, i.e. no built-in padding)... but must admit that the rainy season in japan makes me nervous as the rain seems to find its way into zippers.

on a hangtag for another "goincase" product, i saw a photo of a sling bag laptop case which looked decent... unfortunately the shop doesn't stock the item and the "goincase" laptop portion is under construction. apparently the sling bag also comes with a little ipod case too. has anyone seen these anywhere?

in the meantime, where can i get a 15" zero shock sleeve in tokyo? i see the A4 and smaller sizes everywhere, but they're too small for my laptop.

  5. hmmm... i think there's a bug in here somewhere. my posted reply has disappeared again!!!

if it reappears, please forgive the repetition...

i went to reykjavic in 1990 so no advice on clubs or shops as i can't remember (probably all different now anyway).

i did an icelandic pony trek into the countryside. you can go for an hour or a few days. i thought it was very worthwhile. the landscape is quite beautiful and you don't get to really appreciate it when you are in the city. if you're a rider, it is also interesting because the ponies have an extra gait that english and western horses don't.

the light quality also seemed different, perhaps because there wasn't as much pollution as i was accustomed to at home? i don't know about now, but back then, the heating was geothermal since iceland is a volcanic island, and the hot water that came out of the tap was naturally heated mineral water!

you'll be going when the days are getting longer, so nice long twilights.

bring layers to put on and peel off as necessary - weather changes quickly and unexpectedly.

  6. you should check out the restaurants and bars on college st

local djs in various venues - check the NOW and EYE mags (weekly freebies which come out on thursdays) to see what's on. if "MOVEMENT" is having a party, you should go.

if you can find your way back to VICE (queen st w, w of university) then you should stick around and check out some of these things:

music: ROTATE THIS, near markham st (west of bathurst)

    sweet tooth: dufflet's pastries

light snack: terroni's for mushroom salad, carpaccio and pizzas

    clothing: peel the strip...

    shoes: B2

food: venture out and let your tastebuds take you wherever they want to go... you can dine on anything from pretty much any country at any budget in toronto... take advantage!!!

are you looking for anything specific?
