Pretty perfect Sunday. A chilly walk across the top of the white cliffs, followed by the best pub roast I've had in years, in a 400 year old pub set in a village with my name. For those not familiar with the white cliffs of Dover, this is britains biggest man made structure. And along with the Great Wall of China, pyramids of Giza etc, it's one of just a few man made structures that can be seen from space. Construction was started during the napoleonic war to dissuade the french navy. It was further fortified from the 1st world War onwards to the scale seen today. Fun fact, it gets a fresh coat of paint every 5 years and uses over 350 tonnes of paint each time.14 points

Nice restoration. There is a guy near use who specializes in acquiring and restoring mid century furniture. We’ve gotten a few things from him in the last couple of years. Something that I enjoy collecting are vintage pulp paperbacks. I especially like ones with Robert McGuinness or McGuiness-inspired cover art. When we find ourselves in a bigger city, we make a point to stop at a local used bookstore to browse the mystery and Sci-fi section. Most of our collection has been had at a couple bookstores in Twin Cities as well as Ann Arbor/Detroit. We have nearly the entire Travis McGee series and most Lew Archer series paperbacks now. Some of my favorites are below.3 points

Quick update on my 132D, which are still pretty filthy after their first machine wash in a few months … it’s interesting how different the colour is coming out compared to my previous Tender jeans, all of which were washed biweekly at least throughout their life cycle. These have probably five months of wear now.2 points

I like the Parker Knoll Statesman chairs. So I contacted a local upholsterer to ask if she'd be able to re-upholster one if I could find a chair. Better than that she said, I have just got hold of a knackered one to refurbish... the chance coincidence was too good to give up. Given the state the original was in, it was basically a new build based around the original frame. The twisting mechanism had to be repaired and is 'vintage rickety' which adds character methinks. There was fun and games with the fabric... the first boucle fabric sample held onto everything and was a nightmare to clean so that had to be replaced with new fabric... anyhow the job was finished in Dec 2023 so the chair's been in use over a year now and part of the family... Final pic there including recently received copy of Mongrel Kampung by our very own @oomslokop2 points

The addition of “crust” into the contest lexicon seems a good AI contribution. Not sure how to work it in but I bet it will be appropriate for at least a pair or two out there…1 point

@yung_flynn the sleeve measurement of my size L sits at 58.5cm. Deluxeware has it clocked at 59.5cm, meaning my sleeves are 1cm shorter than expected.1 point

Mine don’t have an estimated delivery date yet, USPS doesn’t usually until it’s in their network. Thinking they’ll land mid next week.1 point

@yung_flynn thanks! Re: the sleeve measurements on my s101 I’ll measure up when I get home - I took a standard L size but I would assume the US sizes might accommodate a longer sleeve length as well. I’m also very intrigued by cushman, specially their freedom sleeve sweats and afterhoods. Will certainly get my hands on one of those in the future!1 point

My TCB 30s just arrived @blooming You’re gunna love them. Super roomy and comfortable right off the bat, exactly the kind of wider fit I was hoping for. Couldn’t be happier with how they sit on me! Rocking a big cuff for now until I give these a wash in a month or so. My only (small) gripe is that clever web shop chainstitched hemmed these bad boys with copper thread instead of the original yellow, making the hem the only copper thread used on the pair. I have access to a local chainstitch service that could re-do it yellow (especially if I want a smaller cuff after washing) but the thing is despite between copper it’s a REALLY clean union special chainstitch that looks like it will rope very nicely. What would you guys do?1 point

I don't. I really hope though! meanwhile I've gave up smoking (for good I hope! it's two months + now) and gained some more weight. I will have to rely on the fact that 38 will actually stretch back to 38, either that or loose weight fast, or a combination of both.. I do hope that Simone will ship today or tomorrow and probably I will be the first to receive them, being in Italy as well... ; )1 point

If you want to increase the number of wears, simply take them off halfway through the day, wait 5 minutes and then put them back on again!1 point

How long are your legs? Measure the outseam of a pair of pants that fit you and size accordingly to that. 5'10 is usually a M or L if long legged. 35" waist is not an issue for any of the sizes.1 point

Wore the new Boncouras for a week, decided to give them a wash just to see if there was any additional shrink left. They felt pretty starchy and there wasn't much puckering / roping, so expected to see a bit of shrink with our older washing machine. Pre-wash measurements (o/w) after a week of wear: Waist: 38 in. Front rise: 12.5 in. Back rise: 18 in. Thigh: 14 in. Knee: 10.5 in. Hem: 9.75 in. Inseam: 32 in. And post warm wash, only shrunk back up in the waist and some additional inseam shrink which I was looking for: Waist: 36.5 Front rise: 12.5 in. Back rise: 18 in. Thigh: 14 in. Knee: 10.5 in. Hem: 9.75 in. Inseam: 31 in.1 point

For the guys Stateside l can empathise to a point as lve been fortunate enough to spend time there, albeit 70's until late 90's so not necessarily relevant today, but the vastness of the country plus the size of the other vehicles on the road would certainly have pushed me to buy something safer (and probably bigger) than the ford focus l drive here ( think it was called the Taurus?) but the other crucial thing is that there was still a massive gap between the smaller Japanese and European vehicles and the 'smaller' vehicles produced in the US. I remember that spectrum of small cars available back then in the UK dwarfed the so called small cars available in the US and imo it hasn't changed a great deal. As an aside @Double 0 Soul here's my addition to really cheap motoring, the fun years of my 20's mostly driving these. They were cheap to buy, bought my first 2CV for 40 quid and my forth for 200. Great fun to drive, a convertible that also had removable seats for picnicking, crazy leaning into corners and ran on lemonade! (..well 50-60 mpg in reality). (Lake district. Check out the case of Directors in the boot lol) One time when we all couldn't fit into the car l removed out all but the drivers seat, opened the roof and took seven people standing up through the roof, whilst drinking and smoking, 12 miles through back roads to a pub and back no bother. Looking back the cars were fun but the inevitability of death by driving in such circumstances with a car essentially made out of tin foil was not well thought through. Saying that, with my son now learning to drive l want something a little more substantial for him with the volume of traffic on the back roads compared to when l was a young'un. And let's not forget our chocked up motorways. Born again boy racer pic incoming... @julian-wolf this is the best l can do to match your 240/260(?) - a 1981Renault Fuego 1.7 GTX l owned in 1999. The thing was 250 quid with a years MOT and that's as long as it lasted due to excessive rust underneath. Both front seats were broken and didn't fold forward so it was a squeeze for peeps trying to access the rear seats. To me it was a poor man's Porsche 924 and went like a rocket! The only sports type car l will ever own. Here's the only pic of it and of note the jacket is a pre lvc type 2.1 point
