Barker Black Archdale wingtip in antique chestnut calf. I've wanted these for about a decade but they were ridiculously priced. This used pair was a Christmas gift from my son and his husband. Love the crowned skull and crossbones motif on the toe, outsole, and insole. The design on the sole was made by hand with dozens of tiny brass nails. Amazing craftsmanship.8 points

About 10 months in homemade jeans and they finally required some crotch repairs which is pretty much par for the course for my thighs. One thing I like about black jeans is how subtle repairs tend to be in comparison to indigo. Not that I don't like visible repairs in my indigo jeans, just a nice change of pace to keep things more work appropriate as they break down.5 points

I’ve already added it to the list of “how many pairs I’ve never bought.”🙂 But seriously, I’m genuinely impressed—in the best way—by the enthusiasm here. I’ll be looking forward to photos of the different stages!4 points

Oh, I wasn't actually planning on wearing them. I just wanted to add them to my "How Many Pairs" thread list.4 points

Oh thank the Lord! I was panicking about you not having enough jeans to wear 😆3 points

I don't. I really hope though! meanwhile I've gave up smoking (for good I hope! it's two months + now) and gained some more weight. I will have to rely on the fact that 38 will actually stretch back to 38, either that or loose weight fast, or a combination of both.. I do hope that Simone will ship today or tomorrow and probably I will be the first to receive them, being in Italy as well... ; )3 points

I will happily follow this thread! A bit bummed that I missed this competition.2 points

Indeed, that’d be a good move wrt making sure all have them before pizza day2 points

^Excellent progress! This is some seriously stubborn denim, at least compared to my other Ooe pairs. Will post mine once I receive the WOMCOM jeans. Mine have 4 washes at over two years of wear and they still have years of life ahead of them and still super dark.2 points

I'm planning on making some pizza on the last day of the contest, rub some of that 00 flour over my thighs and seat to get dem sweet fadez. Some will say that I'm stacking pepperoni. But I like my onions raw and my mozzarella slubby. Will keep it arcuate to my grandmothers recipe.2 points

I love espresso, and have gotten my basic breville barista express - (with the stock grinder even!) down to the point that I usually pull better shots than most cafes I go to, or anywhere, for that matter. It brings me a lot of happiness to get up each morning and make my wife and my drinks, and sit down and write for awhile. I know a few local or Chicago area roasters that make wonderful espresso blends - medium roast, and consistently get nice creamy shots with very little bitterness or sourness. I know it gets deeper than that, but no need for us to do that. When I travel I’ll use a picopresso with a st Anthony millwright grinder and it’s more finicky for sure, but I get good results more often than not. I’ve gotten a few really good shots from it but the average is probably a little below what I get from a cafe. Still, for a travel set up, fantastic. I initially switched to espresso because I just can’t drink a lot of coffee without getting too anxious and feeling my heart pounding - usually a doppio a day and that’s it - on occasion a doppio or a moka pot of half caf (neither ever as good of course) before noon - and it was easiest to consistently dose my caffeine by pulling shots as opposed to Chemex or drip as I used to do. Every few months or so, I try to take 4-8 weeks off from caffeine as well. Tapering down helps minimize with the headaches. It’s a great way to understand how much of a psychoactive stimulant this thing really is and even though I tend to sleep well anyways, after a week or two of no coffee I get some of the best sleep ever, usually just about until I start drinking it again.2 points

Yeah for the most part. I first sew the edges of the hole to clean it up without the patch and then i do another pass to sew the patch on around the hole. Then i just finish it up with a design to sew down the rest of it. I’m working on cleaning up the backside but generally this is enough to have the repair stay on with repeated wear and wash2 points

I get that, I usually just make one mug of coffee per day (usually 21g coffee/340 ml of water) and that hits the sweet spot for me. I used to drink two or three mugs per day but I had the same issue with feeling anxious and weird.1 point

Pretty cool @cultpop 0217, I noticed those shoes wayback to. I like that it’s still a classy shoe. my wedding suit was from them, if I remember correctly. The buttons on sleeve where little skulls1 point

It’s funny to me when people buy work boots and then get nit picky about stitching or boots being slightly off. They’re still made by hand and not a robot so sometimes they won’t match up perfectly.1 point

Wearing the contest jeans 3x per week for 18 months will give about 234 wears Is it enough to get some good fades? How many wears are too many? Wearing 7x per week means 546 wears... is that too much? Not long til we get going now...1 point

I like the Parker Knoll Statesman chairs. So I contacted a local upholsterer to ask if she'd be able to re-upholster one if I could find a chair. Better than that she said, I have just got hold of a knackered one to refurbish... the chance coincidence was too good to give up. Given the state the original was in, it was basically a new build based around the original frame. The twisting mechanism had to be repaired and is 'vintage rickety' which adds character methinks. There was fun and games with the fabric... the first boucle fabric sample held onto everything and was a nightmare to clean so that had to be replaced with new fabric... anyhow the job was finished in Dec 2023 so the chair's been in use over a year now and part of the family... Final pic there including recently received copy of Mongrel Kampung by our very own @oomslokop1 point

I ordered this Celluloid/Warehouse anniversary jacket - the WW2 Tailor jacket - in early 2024 and it finally came. It’s a coarse/rough/chunky feeling denim, quite dark, unwashed. AFAIK They call it their WW2 denim. When I ordered I somehow missed the bit about the delivery date and thought it was in stock, only to find out it was going to be the better part of a year. Color is most accurate in the close up picture of the placket and the sleeve. https://www.celluloid1984.com/?pid=180239828 It’s sort of combination of Duck Digger and Dead Stock Blue. Apparently they only made 60 of them. I’m a little nervous about the shrunk fit in the shoulders, but everywhere else definitely needs the shrink. This one really was sort of a shot in the dark but it was too unique a piece for me to pass up when it came out. It’s funny how tastes slowly change - I’m not sure I would order it now if it popped up, but I’m not mad that it’s finally here. This doesn’t count as a 2025 buy! If it doesn’t shrink up to a good fit throughout I will probably let it go, but I’m hoping it does!1 point

New engineer boot and boots/shoes contender, out of Tokyo, just started selling this month called Archive Tokyo. Can’t tell if they’re sold out already, Mr. Olive sells the brand on their site as well. More of the brand: https://www.mr-olive.net/fs/mrolive/c/archivetokyo www.archivetokyo.com Edit:Sold out but watch out for the brand.1 point

Here are some nicer images of the $240k 1890's recently discussed in the other thread, before they disappear into some museum. These courtesy of mushroom vintage. 2 notable things for me. The close up of the crotch construction with what looks like a gusset(?) type thing going on - where's @Sansome1877 when you need him? Secondly, is that a pair of og canvas one pocket duck pants in the first shot? Guy must have spent a fortune.1 point
