I like the Parker Knoll Statesman chairs. So I contacted a local upholsterer to ask if she'd be able to re-upholster one if I could find a chair. Better than that she said, I have just got hold of a knackered one to refurbish... the chance coincidence was too good to give up. Given the state the original was in, it was basically a new build based around the original frame. The twisting mechanism had to be repaired and is 'vintage rickety' which adds character methinks. There was fun and games with the fabric... the first boucle fabric sample held onto everything and was a nightmare to clean so that had to be replaced with new fabric... anyhow the job was finished in Dec 2023 so the chair's been in use over a year now and part of the family... Final pic there including recently received copy of Mongrel Kampung by our very own @oomslokop15 points

I ordered this Celluloid/Warehouse anniversary jacket - the WW2 Tailor jacket - in early 2024 and it finally came. It’s a coarse/rough/chunky feeling denim, quite dark, unwashed. AFAIK They call it their WW2 denim. When I ordered I somehow missed the bit about the delivery date and thought it was in stock, only to find out it was going to be the better part of a year. Color is most accurate in the close up picture of the placket and the sleeve. https://www.celluloid1984.com/?pid=180239828 It’s sort of combination of Duck Digger and Dead Stock Blue. Apparently they only made 60 of them. I’m a little nervous about the shrunk fit in the shoulders, but everywhere else definitely needs the shrink. This one really was sort of a shot in the dark but it was too unique a piece for me to pass up when it came out. It’s funny how tastes slowly change - I’m not sure I would order it now if it popped up, but I’m not mad that it’s finally here. This doesn’t count as a 2025 buy! If it doesn’t shrink up to a good fit throughout I will probably let it go, but I’m hoping it does!11 points

Guess I've been on a bit of a Boncoura kick lately, grabbed this pullover hoodie yesterday. Tried on both the 40 and 42, went with the larger size and shrinking it now. Fabric isn't quite as beefy as the Freewheelers heavy weight fabric, but it's got a bit more texture. And sometimes those are too warm anyways. Apologies for the crappy photos, pretty cloudy today. I'll get a fit pic one day here soon once it's brighter out.10 points

Just a note to say that overcast days are the easiest conditions to reveal accurate textures of something, especially if you make your pictures outside or near a window in a neutral colored environment. Color is a bit of a different matter - but all else being equal it’s not a bad bet as well. There are other variables of course, exposure and white balance - but cell phones tend to do a decent job at both these days. Noting this because sometimes I don’t quite understand the knock on the conditions to make a photograph - if it’s cloudy out it’s fine - preferable even - if it’s too dark just expose for the subject and not the scene around it (ie on your iPhone make sure the exposure is locked/based on the person or garment as opposed to the background) Do I apply any of this for Sufu pics? Pretty much no, lol. But, photography is actually my craft.5 points

66 black, size 31. I had no idea how versatile these would be. I slept on the black warp/white weft combo for way too long. Also, the cut of these is *chefs kiss*.3 points

Yes, both are Power Wear. It’s usually listed in the specific name of the product and you can tell with the cuffs being a different shape (though I’m not 100% if that is always the case). The “special heavy weight” that I’ve seen has the sleeve cuff that angles back to a point on the inner side of the wrist/forearm. From what I’ve experienced, the cut and fit is pretty similar between the two - take your normal size. Pics of the tags and cuffs below. I’ll try to get a detail shot of the pile inside the sweat to show the difference. It looks roughly twice as thick and I think it’s quite warm and insulating for a cotton sweatshirt. FW folks feel free to add or correct anything I missed or got wrong.2 points

Agreed, not seeing that as good news. LMVH has shareholders to satisfy and profit will be king to them. It's hard to see how Kapital's innovative designs and products won't be impacted and the costs rise (they were pretty top end anyway). I see Superfuture got a shout out in the highsnobiety article!1 point

Had a go at the cheaper glasses today. Thanks for the tips! It didn’t go terribly and the acetate is super easy to work with. Only issue was I broke a lens putting it back in. No big deal as it was the ‘test’ pair. I’m confident I could probably get the ‘proper’ ones looking nice but I’m not comfortable with the risk. As well as being quite expensive, it’s not always easy to get hold of the Japanese Tart AR so it would be a big risk to mess with them. Here’s the ones I sanded: And a photo of the original Tart Arnel with a photo of my ‘repro’ ones where you can see the difference. Subtle, but a difference nonetheless. Originals: Mine:1 point

Bad experience with Marrkt today. Pair of Real Mccoys jeans popped up on the site this week, I know their jeans get slated here but it's an itch from years back so I thought why not. Marrkt had them listed as very good condition and one product image showed a heavy crease and bit of fading to the rear of one leg. I reached out via live chat to see how bad the fading was (the jeans are still really dark, with no visible wear). They were helpful and actually went to physically check the pair for me. Came back and said crease will iron out and there's was a bit of fading that would be unnoticeable with a bit of wear..... They arrived today and basically the jeans are f**ked. The crease on the back of the leg is @ 8 inches long and has significant fading the entire length of the crease. Both legs, inseam and outseam have sharp creasing and pretty heavy fading running from waistband/crotch to hem. Looks like they have been soaked and then folded wet and left like that. Pretty pissed off with their product description and having to pay shipping and returns!1 point

Thing is, if I succeed in going the duration of this contest and save what I might spend on jeans in a normal year, I could do it. My collection at this point says that over time it’s not so much a matter of funding (although to a pair, it certainly feels like it) but actually curation and restraint. I’ve been curious about putting in a long go of some naturally dyed jeans and while SDA seem the obvious option, who knows. I’ve been able to resist anything since the contest was agreed upon, so there’s that!1 point

and I chopped mine off into shorts and turned the legs into a bucket hat They are lovely denim, the opposite to my Samurais... really soft and pliable, the Indigo had lots of depth, has faded well, would still wear them except i got old and fat. I got mine about 17 or 18 years ago. Its summer here now so I will be wearing the hat. Semi-active, that's me in general. Wish I had kept my EVISU we were gifted for doing the DD+1 traveling pants way back1 point

For the guys Stateside l can empathise to a point as lve been fortunate enough to spend time there, albeit 70's until late 90's so not necessarily relevant today, but the vastness of the country plus the size of the other vehicles on the road would certainly have pushed me to buy something safer (and probably bigger) than the ford focus l drive here ( think it was called the Taurus?) but the other crucial thing is that there was still a massive gap between the smaller Japanese and European vehicles and the 'smaller' vehicles produced in the US. I remember that spectrum of small cars available back then in the UK dwarfed the so called small cars available in the US and imo it hasn't changed a great deal. As an aside @Double 0 Soul here's my addition to really cheap motoring, the fun years of my 20's mostly driving these. They were cheap to buy, bought my first 2CV for 40 quid and my forth for 200. Great fun to drive, a convertible that also had removable seats for picnicking, crazy leaning into corners and ran on lemonade! (..well 50-60 mpg in reality). (Lake district. Check out the case of Directors in the boot lol) One time when we all couldn't fit into the car l removed out all but the drivers seat, opened the roof and took seven people standing up through the roof, whilst drinking and smoking, 12 miles through back roads to a pub and back no bother. Looking back the cars were fun but the inevitability of death by driving in such circumstances with a car essentially made out of tin foil was not well thought through. Saying that, with my son now learning to drive l want something a little more substantial for him with the volume of traffic on the back roads compared to when l was a young'un. And let's not forget our chocked up motorways. Born again boy racer pic incoming... @julian-wolf this is the best l can do to match your 240/260(?) - a 1981Renault Fuego 1.7 GTX l owned in 1999. The thing was 250 quid with a years MOT and that's as long as it lasted due to excessive rust underneath. Both front seats were broken and didn't fold forward so it was a squeeze for peeps trying to access the rear seats. To me it was a poor man's Porsche 924 and went like a rocket! The only sports type car l will ever own. Here's the only pic of it and of note the jacket is a pre lvc type 2.1 point
