Shoes that look better with age...

as i said, i worked with leather for six years, and when i was at the tannery, both i and the tanner talked about horse leather and cordovan, so no calf leather involved there. doesn't get any clearer than this.

    These cutz don't heal

For me, it prolly starts w/ the Levi's 501. I get that there are many different variations, but even the current STF of-the-rack model is pretty darn good. Maybe not perfect, but I don't think such a thing as The Perfect Cut exists (yet). I generally prefer a medium-rise, straight slight-taper to about 8" hem. I don't regularly wear cuffs and like reasonable stacks, so I don't like the hem to be any wider than about 8.5". Roy's cuts are some of the best for their categories. I have the RT1002 - medium-rise, slim tapered, and R01 - high-rise straight. Both are excellent and I can't think of much that I'd suggest as an improvement. Iron Heart's 634 is a great cut for me, and I think I prefer it to the 888. I find the 888 has a little too much rise, and the hips are wider than the 634. I'm really tempted by SExIH 633, but most seem to have too small of a hem. I think Samurai's S510 doesn't get the attention it deserves. Before my time here, I think it was shunned because it was considered anti-fit, but I don't find that at all. For me it has the right amount of rise, a waist that is slightly smaller than the hips and is appropriate for the rise, and ample thighs. I had one pair tapered slightly, but I'm not sure that it was an improvement over the original silhouette. I haven't found a favorite cut yet... there are so many others I'm interested in, so I'm looking forward to seeing what other fella's post about!

What is/are your favorite cut(s), regardless of denim, details, construction, etc.? Describe what the cut is, and what you like about it. Intel on functionality is welcome, like how useful are the pockets, range of motion, etc. Measurements and fit pics will be beneficial, too. Use this thread as a knowledge base for those looking to get into raw denim, as well as seasoned denim-heads who may be looking for something different than they already have. There are so many different cuts from different brands, it's difficult to keep up with what's what.

    Levi's Vintage Clothing

I was looking at Unionmade's LVC offerings just a couple of days before their sale, and they sold of a the models in my size I was looking at. Yet still, I'd have a hard time dropping $170 +/- on them when I could put that towards something I'd personally find more worth the cost.

    Levi's Vintage Clothing

Found my old Levi’s. The rise (from crotch seam) on the 54 is 10” and is consistently 11” across 3 pairs of 47s. All are 30 waist. The back rise is higher at 15.5” in the 54 vs 14” - 14.5” in the 47s. Appreciate this is repeating kicks79 but may be helpful. The seat feels more roomy in the 54 despite the lower rise, perhaps due to higher back rise and slightly larger waist of half an inch. Edit: Brucey bonus pic after measuring. Top to bottom : 47, 54 & 47. Excuse various table legs, limited space in loft.

Measurements are as follows on the type 1 as promised... apologies bit tardy in getting them through... Size 46 Raw - Post 30C wash in cm Shoulders 52 - 50 Chest 62 - 57.5 Length 65 - 60 Sleeve 67.5 - 60 Opening 57 - 52.5 Size 44 (turned out too small for me) Shoulders 51 - 49 Chest 59 - 56.5 Length 65 - 59.25 Sleeve 63 - 57 (yes 57, not uncommonly short in type 1s of the period I understand) Plus Konaka's official chart for comparison Significant shrinkage and variables to navigate if you're planning one - good luck! Not sure if my 46 will shrink much more if I wash on 40C - anyone tried?

At dirty makes some nice mij converse lookalikes but they might be sold out now since they've been out for awhile unless Cannonball is still selling them. Warehouse has some nice ones too. Me personally, will probably do some cheap all stars or vans while one of my shoes is getting a resole. I don't like spending a bunch of money on sneakers due trashing them over the years.
