Oops Thanks, b_F, too early in the morning! Those are my D1507 so I’ve edited my post. The D1507 are heavier, slubbier cotton which was Ai dyed by hand, I think, rather than natural indigo dyed by machine. Thanks for the correction.

Thanks lance. Funny, your pair of D1554 looks quite different than the one Naoki has on his HP: http://pants-shop-avenue.com/item/D1554/ Your pair has more lining. I noticed some minor shrinkage differences on my D1708 but nothing that would have an effect in terms of fading I think.

    Self Edge, SF/NY/LA/PDX - updates & info

3sixteen 40BSP Caustic Wave Denim Jeans & Jacket This week we have a new run of 3sixteen's Caustic Wave denim jackets and jeans. The 40BSP jean is made of a 16.5oz unsanforized (but rinsed) denim made into a straight tapered jean fit. This fit has a true medium rise, a top block that is comfortable, and a leg which has a strong taper for a small leg opening at the hem. One of the best selling denim jackets of the past few years has been 3sixteen’s modified Type III. We’re happy to announce that it’s also made in a traditional indigo warp / natural weft denim using the 16.5oz Caustic Wave 40BSP denim which starts out unsanforized but has been rinsed to make sizing easier. This jacket has cord lined hand pockets and cuffs, a slightly extended length so you can wear with untucked shirts easily, and slightly longer sleeves than 3sixteen's normal Type III jackets. The "Caustic Wave" denim was developed with the intention of creating a fabric which would yield electric blue high friction points and a high contrast fade with regular wear. A strong variation within the weave of the fabric combined with strongly twisted yarns of uneven shapes and lengths creates an abrasive denim with a crisp and dry hand feel. We also have a fresh run of their black zip hoodies. All three of these items are available now at all stores and online. Shop 3sixteen Online

Thanks for noticing @beautiful_FrEaK Yes, Shingo measures the circumference which adds about 1 inch. That's why the chart I posted a few days ago differ a little bit. Thanks @Maynard Friedman ! We will change the top button though for the final jeans. It will be a special Denim Base-branded iron top button. Sadly it's not finished yet so we don't have it on the samples.

What method of measuring for the waist has been used now? In the link at the jeans description, it shows the 360° inside waistband method. http://denimbridge.jp/gbg?fbclid=IwAR2gj8frmffuyH7oqY1RVjZTKQOb5L89t0UppBcvg856LOSvcpx4pES_M6k I'm torn between 34 and 35 in these.

Jeans look great Bobbo, I’m so tempted I might just be in! The cut, denim, hardware and details all look top notch, well done. I think the waist on these is 1” larger than the samples if that makes a difference to anyone.

Yes sure, this year they realease a lot of stuff for their 40th anniversary. Are the Sakura, New Leaves, Chestnut and Charcoal dyed wefts also considered as 40th anniversary models?! I just noticed I never posted fit pics of the G-002. They are a slim straight with a medium rise (by my standards). Too bad, SDA releases so many model in their new, heavily tapered 108 cut...

    These cutz don't heal

Great topic. I’m 5’6” and about 160 lbs so I find straight cuts work best for me — on tapered cuts, there’s too much visual contrast between ankle and waist. Totally agree on the s510. Just love that fit. I also like the fit on my samurai s0500, TCB 20s, and Oni 552 NIGR. The Stevenson overall 747 and Iron Heart 634s get a little less wear. I wish they were just a tad bigger in the thigh. Honestly the best fitting pair I own are Carhartt double fronts in their original loose fit. The rise is perfect, and they look clean and not at all baggy.

Shoes that look better with age...

Well, I mean I curious as to how you could be able to procure cordovan at 40 euros then since other leather workers have tried and the quotes they're given for the various grades is much much higher. Almost seems too good to be true. Likewise, what was the tannery? There's apparently few who can tan cordovan and the process for it is supposedly more laborious.

Shoes that look better with age...

as i said, i worked with leather for six years, and when i was at the tannery, both i and the tanner talked about horse leather and cordovan, so no calf leather involved there. doesn't get any clearer than this.

For me, it prolly starts w/ the Levi's 501. I get that there are many different variations, but even the current STF of-the-rack model is pretty darn good. Maybe not perfect, but I don't think such a thing as The Perfect Cut exists (yet). I generally prefer a medium-rise, straight slight-taper to about 8" hem. I don't regularly wear cuffs and like reasonable stacks, so I don't like the hem to be any wider than about 8.5". Roy's cuts are some of the best for their categories. I have the RT1002 - medium-rise, slim tapered, and R01 - high-rise straight. Both are excellent and I can't think of much that I'd suggest as an improvement. Iron Heart's 634 is a great cut for me, and I think I prefer it to the 888. I find the 888 has a little too much rise, and the hips are wider than the 634. I'm really tempted by SExIH 633, but most seem to have too small of a hem. I think Samurai's S510 doesn't get the attention it deserves. Before my time here, I think it was shunned because it was considered anti-fit, but I don't find that at all. For me it has the right amount of rise, a waist that is slightly smaller than the hips and is appropriate for the rise, and ample thighs. I had one pair tapered slightly, but I'm not sure that it was an improvement over the original silhouette. I haven't found a favorite cut yet... there are so many others I'm interested in, so I'm looking forward to seeing what other fella's post about!

What is/are your favorite cut(s), regardless of denim, details, construction, etc.? Describe what the cut is, and what you like about it. Intel on functionality is welcome, like how useful are the pockets, range of motion, etc. Measurements and fit pics will be beneficial, too. Use this thread as a knowledge base for those looking to get into raw denim, as well as seasoned denim-heads who may be looking for something different than they already have. There are so many different cuts from different brands, it's difficult to keep up with what's what.
