Luther's Denim '55 Fit Review w/ Pre/Post Soak Fit Pics

Hi All,

Wanted to do a quick writeup here for anyone that was looking into Luther's Denim as I had been looking for a good source of info and found only 2-3 people with actual fit pics pre and post soak.

I'll start from the beginning, as the ordering process was a breeze. I read a few threads on here and decided that I'd email the company to be sure I order the correct size. After hitting up [email protected] I got a response within an hour from Charles (Chuck) who guided me through the sizing and expected shrinkage. I have a true 36 waist and measured my LVC 1947's for reference...36.5".

Per Chuck's advice, I ordered true to size as the jeans are unsanforized and are expected to shrink ~2" in the waist after the initial soak and stretch out the same amount with wear. I also ordered the longest inseam option of 36" as I'm 5'10" and enjoy me some cuff stacking (your opinion may vary lol).

Above is a link to the pics I took of the jeans before the initial soak. The denim itself is very uniform and not particularly slubby, it actually has a slight sheen to it. It's very similar to the LVC 47's honestly. The denim is also fairly soft, even in it's loomstate. I was expecting it to be stiffer but (SPOILER ALERT) fear not as it will get much stiffer post soak. Something else I noticed is that the pocket bags are a bit longer than APC, N&F, UB and some of the other brands in this price range. (Used code "sale" for $65 off which means $110 shipped total price). However, LVC's and even regular STF's have slightly longer pockets than these 55's.

Another nice detail was the hidden pocket rivet on the back pocket corners, same as my LVC's. I enjoy the way those rivets will eventually (hopefully) push through the denim with excessive wear, just a neat little detail. But enough of the pre soak pics, let's get onto the post soak.

The album above contains pictures after a 2 hour soak in hot water, with the jeans flipped inside out.

The fit is exactly what I was hoping for. The rise is high and exactly where it should be. As you can see in the pics, it's a classic fit, length shrinkage was around 2.5 inches and the waist shrinkage was at 2" exactly. I hung the denim post soak until dry (overnight and the following day) and after coming home the second day to the fully dried jeans it was clear that the fabric had tightened up and was far stiffer and starchier than when they had first arrived. I've heard of some people wearing the denim without the initial soak, and obviously I can't come to your house and dump water on you (ex. Kroll Show "Soaked in Success" skit) but I'd strongly recommend not doing that as the fit won't be as nearly as customized and the jeans will blow out prematurely from failing to tighten the fibers of the cotton via that initial soak.

Another note on the fit, if you have big thighs, this is absolutely the denim you need to try next. The fit is perfect in the thighs and top block, so perfect that I can throw a foot atop my opposite knee while sitting and not feel like my jeans are cutting off circulation to my leg. Another benefit of that is that it will (hopefully) increase the lifespan of the denim and prevent unnecessary crotch blowouts from overly tight jeans.

For those curious, I ordered a 36x36 and my measurements are as follows... Waist 36" Thigh 25.5" Height 5'10" Weight 185 lbs

TL;DR: I bought a pair of 55's from Luther's Denim which is a company I had never heard of. Cost me $110, owner included a FREE T Shirt with my purchase, and they're absolutely amazing for the price. Try them yourself, and thank me later.

Sorry, was just joking. It's just that the way you've written the post makes it sound like you work for them. Which I'm sure you don't.

Oh lol, my bad didn't catch that.

Either way though, really diggin the jeans. I have 25.5" thighs and just got super hyped about a pair of raw denim that would actually fit. Almost impossible for me to find any cuts that accomodate larger legs with the exception of like $300+ momo natural tapers.
