i didn't meet anyone while i was in singapore that didn't speak english...

Yeah... I guess that's my own little way of saying I wish I spoke Mandarin and better Cantonese. :o

sidneylo - must portraits include face? can face be averted, obscured by hand, smoke or clouds?

Currently I have yet to obscure anyone's face, but I understand the issue of anonymity. So far, the people I have met have been comfortable enough with me to let me take their portrait without any obstructions, and thus, I've also been lucky enough to have each one be open to having it be posted and shown here.

However, as this series of portraits progresses, I am anticipating that certain people will be willing to participate under various circumstances. So, until whatever final form this project will take, your portrait does not have to be posted or published on the forums, nor will I steal your soul and post without your permission. I would gladly give you an original to edit your own watermark (if you'd like to post it on superfuture), but for the purposes of the end result I'd like to have them without obstruction.

Also, I hope by the end of this series, there will be more of an emphasis on a collective entity rather than individual personalities--so I may not even include the names of people (real or fake) for identification. For some reason I find that charming and less personal, in a good way.

okay, no obstruction, but what about if the face is averted as if to follow the flight path of a rare bird, denying the camera a full-on face shot, but instead offering a suggestion of a face...

I would be open to that, or something equally poetic. I'm not dead set on having everything a certain way, so when it comes down to shooting a portrait, it's going to be on a case to case basis, and I'd definitely work with you to capture something that you would feel best represents a hybrid of your real life personality and your online persona.

This idea is strangely arousing given my lack of physical presence on SF. Any plans to turn International & hit London?

Yes, eventually. Currently I don't have the means to get myself over to the UK this year, but next spring, if you are still interested, I intend on making it out there. :)

Sidney, how long will you be in NYC this December? Enough to overlap with a college student's winter break, perhaps?

Hey Brooklyn Zoo.... right now I'm here til June... if there's a large enough base of folks who are down for the cause, I could try and make a trip down for the weekend.

I don't know any folks down there so I'd need a helping hand for a place to crash and somehow meet everyone. :)

I think about 20. Haven't looked at them collectively yet, but with the handful of meetups and guests in NYC coupled with the first Saturday of being back in NYC... 20 sounds like a good number.
