sayword did indeed have a new user name however his penchant for posting as if he was a colour commentator for a sports event caused trouble again by escalating drama and his new account was also put into superpenalty.

Why did you stealth-ban Whitney?

firstly what exactly is a stealth ban?

actually that question is rhetorical as what happened with whitney has already been asked and answered in this thread.

please take the time to read through the thread before you ask a question. this is forum behavior 101 and especially on supertalk.

tldr: use the fucking search function.

this is kind of a different question but: why did you guys continue the move to sf 4.0 when its usability was/ (is) still pretty bad?

I mean, a lot of guys on here are pretty good with aesthetics/etc. and code, and would be certain to help contribute design. I mean, the site is useable, but the move to sufu4 was pretty bad for awhile. Any chance of an sufu4.1 upgrade, or can we help in any way?

i have/had nothing to do with the upgrade and technical aspects of superfuture which consists of more than just supertalk. so my answers are just that my answers.

the upgrade consisted of merging the old supertravel/supernews cold fusion database with the supertalk msql one, a lot of the problems stemmed from getting these to work together as one site.

as far as design aspects go, wayne is a designer and i am sure that he made the site look in a way that he decided it should look, aesthetics are of course a matter of opinion. as far as functionality goes if you are an experienced engineer who is good with .php/msql and preferably vbulletin, and are interested in helping out with fixing the remaining bugs on supertalk, then you are more than welcome to contact wayne.

Well to be honest, most of the bannings that have happened in my experience on sufu have been "stealth bannings." But then again, that's why we have this thread right? Thanks hap for taking the time to do this. Even if people still don't agree with your decisions, it's a lot better to at least know what they are and what the rationale was.

suckdick has had numerous accounts banned all for complaining about bannings/moderation decisions. on more than one occasion he has stated that he knew it was against the rules but was joking about it. i am sure like the other freebayers in supermarket another account will show up at some point. perhaps this time he will refrain from the kind of posting that keeps getting him banned.

I miss suckdick. If you are out there PM me.

WayneGibbous was banned for using racial epithets while calling for a neg rep train by posting rep a member had given him.this post was made in a high profile thread after that member had posted, thus breaking a rule outright and also messing with the natural order of things through meta posting and post stalking.

chronoaug had long made it known both on supertalk and outside of it, that he strongly disagreed with the way things were run on supertalk. his complaints took the form of character assassination of the moderation team, and negative reputation comments to mods of how they were bad at moderating. during a clean up of these things, i came across posts of his and was reminded that he thought it was his place to monitor and comment about moderation and locked his account.

the age assessment reminded me of a conversation i had with beatle recently where she remarked that there will be a group of us who grow old on supertalk together. but then again i am sure that she and the rest of the people she was referring to did not ever consider supertalk a place to mine for sexual conquests so having younger members post is not an issue.

So I start this post with a victorian-esque apology, which is for the length of this post.

Secondly, kudos to Hap et al for choosing to make this thread. If for no other reason than exposing the truly interesting internal politics of a group like this.

So, I am exposing my age here, but I got my first 300BPS acoustic telecoupler in 1988 at the age of 10. This discussion in general feels like deja vu all over again. I saw it first on BBS's, then on NNTP/usenet, then IRC, then mailing lists, and now finally PHPBB forums.

This shit NEVER changes. When you throw people into an anonymous community where they can voice their opinions without fear of any repercussion other than written word from others, then you end up with stupid arguments. The types of things we're seeing here, even the supposedly "infamous" and "epic" jmatsu debacles PALE in comparison to the flame wars of old that were held sometimes over YEARS on BBS's.

It is the nature of communities to change. One that doesn't may please the orthodoxy, but will ultimately languish and stagnate, and end up with only the orthodox using it. Being that sufu is a fashion forum and fashion almost by definition permutes, to complain about it deviating from any particular user's perception of the orthodox seems to me pedantic and pointless. Unlike the old days, if you don't like it, you can go to another forum. Might I recommend http://www.angryforum.com/forum/

I will end with a reference from textfiles.com, a guidebook from 1984 on how to engage in proper flame wars: http://www.textfiles...00/warbitch.txt

Anyway, was that guy actually a real account, or a troll?

Thanks Hap.

why were ouss and seksu! banned

asking for the manager of the forum to be banned seems a pretty straightforward way to say that you do not want to be a member anymore.

both seksu! and ouss did that and they were they had their wish granted.

i will also explain the thinking behind another thread as people seem a little confused.

jmatsu was given his account back a week ago, as he did contribute to a few thread and it seemed like time to give him another chance.

please understand firstly that i have as many people contacting me saying he is the death of the forum as i do saying he is the savior. if i can have my opinion he is just another poster posts some good stuff and some nonsense.

on his first day or so back he posted this

so much simpler when we could liberally say...

so much simpler when we could liberally say "NIG_A."

which i sent him a polite pm saying that it was something he shouldn't be posting. it was never the case that that was acceptable on supertalk, and given his recent reinstatement and some of the excitement around that it seemed likely to cause trouble.

with that in mind this next post is really taking the piss.

http://www.superfutu...postcount=64544

instead of warning jmatsu via pm again as i have had so many long conversations with him about stuff from various email accounts and user account i thought that he may get the message to chill out in a different way.
