Just binge watched Penny Dreadful. Actually quite enjoyed the schlockiness of it. I think it did justice to the style and atmosphere of the pulp nature from the original publications.

Interested in The Strain, I'll catch up tonight most likely. Also glad The Bridge is back.

Strain was okay.  Peter Russo from House cards with a wig LOL.  Old european dude with a pawn shop in Harlem, what?  The quirk about the milk was stupid.  The family issues with the main character, typical shit writing, and I feel like the audience will find another TV wife to hate.  WTF was up with cholo East LA gang bangers in NYC, and wtf is a french dude living in Jamaica Queens.

Ya Scandi is big in UK, I think that's where they sold the most units of that fisherman sweater the girl from the killing always wears. I haven't seen Borgen, you liked it?

 

yeah it's alright, worth a look if you've got time for an episode or two to make your own mind up. blanking on comparable shows at the moment.

watching the honourable woman, it's on bbc at the moment. it's another co-production with sundance so i'm guessing it'll be on their channel in the us like top of the lake--it's very good.

Agree about The Strain, I hated the main character during the first scene. Slack writing indeed, cunt wife and cunt kid too, driving that fucking Defender, drinking milk.

Started watching the sheild last night and I can't really get into it , About 3 episodes in ... Feel like I should stick with it but it just isn't measuring up to the hbo shows . I get the same feeling as when I watched SOA . SOA could have been soo much better if they didn't hold back so much , like what were they thinking introducing a porn studio and no nudity ?? Even the dialogue felt really censored And the Belfast episodes were cringey as fuck ( I'm from Belfast ) ... UVF doing a drive by in a black taxi and a priest the head of the IRA ...... Weak

Think ill maybe just rewatch the wire again

the shield is incredible and is on a whole different level to soa which is mostly garbage.

Yeah…The Shield gets wild in really unexpected ways and the secondary characters/cameos they introduce are really strong. 

 

"Belfast" season of SOA was easily the weakest, and a bit of a joke. But yeah, not on par with The Shield.

The Strain looks like it could be interesting, but the writing is so poor that the pilot was difficult to watch. The show seems to throw in every possible genre and TV cliche even though it completely detracts from the show. It looks like it belongs on ABC. Pretty disappointed since Guillermo del Toro is great and vampires seems right up his alley, I'll try a few more episodes though.

Considering I just watched all of Penny Dreadful s01 I'll definitely give the strain some more episodes. Haven't watched this week's episode yet

Kinda losing interest in Tyrant, just overly fictionalized like a middle eastern House of Cards or something. Not bad, but not great

Halt and Catch Fire, I don't even know what's going on with this show - Gordon losing his mind, his wife making a move on her boss (duh), the boss not reciprocating (wat), who knows what's next for the Don Draper wannabe sales guy. I guess him and Cameron continue falling in love lol

Also need to watch this week's Masters of Sex and Last Week Tonight. The Wire has been taking up most of my free time lately, and while it's been good, marathon watching full hour long episodes can wear on ya after awhile. Not like Justified where cranking through 40 minutes at a time is a little smoother

2nd ep of the strain was slightly better.  Still some wtfs like ppl dont notice bloodshot eyes and super pale faces, canceling an autopsy of 200+ bodies, nobody checks the morgue, nobody gives a fuck about a body with a smashed head.

Haven't watched the second episode, but the same kind of stuff killed me in the pilot. Like when they find that huge coffin looking box that mysteriously showed up on the plane where everyone turned up dead on, and they just decide to go ahead and open it right there in the warehouse with no protection.

 

And the Peter Russo guy looks kind of ridiculous with that hair. And the whole good guy with a tough job who's going through a divorce thats hard on the kid and his gorgeous coworker that throws herself at him...

Halt and Catch Fire had a pretty good twist this week, the finale will hopefully be pretty good. I honestly don't know what they'll do to continue this story tho, might be one and done and not even a planned anthology like all the cool kids are doing
