hello everyone!

just recently stumbled upon this thread. i'd first like to say that i've been an admirer from afar of some of you like corter, hollows, and friday and river and i have to say, the things you make are awesome and inspire me. i'm glad that i have found a community to discuss leather crafting. i enjoy seeing what other people design and create. much respect to you all!

i'd like to share with you my pride and joy. i used burgundy chromexcel and hermann oak veg tan for this one.

This is the first simple minimal bill-fold I just finished and need some help if any of you have a minute.

1) How do you guys keep the back of your stitches so neat? It seems like even if I manage to get the back looking straight it still looks real choppy and junky (see 2nd picture for reference).

2) In my 3rd picture I have my billfold sitting in my lacing pony. How am I supposed to place the piece into the jaws so I can stitch the sides correctly? As you can see I cant just smash the rest of the bill-fold into that area. Do I just have to buy a real deal stitching pony?

Any other help and pointers would be great. Making things is awesome even if I mess them up all the time! :)

we might have the same lacing pony. i removed the nut and bolt in the middle and started using a small c-clamp, made things way easier and more room!

^^^ Why didn't you just get your dad to make a stitching pony..?

My dad is actually a rather terrible woodworker, but ingenious with the crappy tools, that he has. But I was actually thinking about it, but I haven't found any good how-to-make-a-stitching-clam-tutorials. They can be found, but I haven't found one, that really made me think; this will work out perfectly..

A few medicine bags made for a local merchant. these bags include elk splits, deer hides, Horween CXL, moose hide, pig skin lacing, coyote fangs/molars,alligator teeth, african sand cast beads, hand cut/drilled deer antler buttons, glass beads and muskrat skulls. not quite forum appropriate but oh well.

Did a couple full shell wallets with RFID shielding. There's a layer of stainless steel fabric in-between the two layers of the shell that provides the protection. Crazy to think about how much $ in raw materials go into one of these things- more than the cost of many of my other wallets!

Also just finished a batch for another company I make for

Picked them up in Japan. Went back today to pick up some of their Japanese tannery leather. Wow, buttery soft...very Horween-esque.

That makes sense. I want to travel to Japan for a hundred different reasons, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up spending most of my time in leather shops.

Remind me on how Red Moon leather's feel. Not to forget other Japanese Brands also.

Any photos on that leather? :)

I'll have to take about a hundred photos in the right light to get a single good photo with my CoolPix...that's how bad I am with photography (I use instagram to help make my photos look decent). Will post pics of the leather soon. In mean time, I picked these up at the local 100 yen shop this evening

Do you guys have a preferred tool/press for setting snaps? I have a project coming up that will require about 250 snaps, and there's no way I'll be setting the all by hand.

I've thought about that one, corter. Between the press and the dies, it's about $350, though. Maybe they'll rent one to me for a week... :)

Get your tax ID and it'll be $250! You'll have it forever, and there are plenty of other uses for it. 250 snaps would easily take me 5-6 hours to set by hand, and if you can do the same with a press in probably an hour and a half at $50/hour labor, it'll almost pay for itself in that one project.

Working on girls stuff, because I get angry emails from girls about not having girl stuff. Designing girl-specific stuff isn't my scene, so I just end up designing unisex stuff that girls use more often than guys. Tote/purse sample, it'll probably change a bit over two or three more samples

Hmm, well, if there was ever an incentive to get a tax ID ;)

Great looking tote!

And, why can I no longer subscribe to this thread?? I have to search for it every time.
