Hey there,

looks like you may have left already but if not, there is a great hotel to stay in right near the main station. And it's an easy walk to most stuff.

DGI-Byens

http://www.dgibyen.d...glish&pageid=32

Stayed here a week and its simple slick and the breakfasts are awesome.

Cheers

Can anyone give me any intelligence on Copenhagen?

Visiting in March and would like to check out good design and architecture as well as the usual
hubs, bars, cafes, galleries, or anything my radar might not usually pick up!

Any one in the area offering guide services?
Also thinking about checking out Malmo...any tips?

sorry for the wanky sas chat, but I got a new army sweater today!

Cheers,

Haste.

Definitly go to Zoo bar on Pilestrædet. Tell the cab driver to driver down "Pilestrædet" towards "Højbro plads", when he get to "Strøget" you should be able to see it on the right. It's right next to Streetmachine and near Café Kethup and Café Sommersko which you can also check out.

Zoo Bar is decorated by my fave Danish artist Kristian Hornsleth. www.hornsleth.com. Wish there was a galleri sporting him, but nobody will have him. Haha.
They usually have some okay DJ's spinning and a good mood and atmosphere at Zoo.

I'll be back with much more later...

Where are you from anyway?

I've tried to put a little list together of things I feel you should check out, that you can print.

1) Kunstindustrimuseet (Danish Museum of Decorative Art) just wrapped up a cool exhibition about the Heritage of Bauhaus. The Ulm School of Design and such.

KUNSTINDUSTIMUSEET
Bredgade 68, 1260 Copenhagen K
Phone# +45 33 18 56 56
www.kunstindustrimuseeet.dk

2) Danish Design Center: Industrial design, product design, design history etc.

DANISH DESIGN CENTRE
H.C. Andersens Boulevard 27
1553 Copenhagen V
Phone# +45 33 69 33 69
www.ddc.dk

3) V1 Gallery. Most interesting gallery in the city. Houses kids like Kasper Sonne and his collection titled "AM I EVIL?" (my favorite Kasper Sonne paining is this 2 yard long oil on canvas titled MOTHERFUCKER FROM
HELL: http://www.bongorama...096622905.jpg). Has Henrik Vibskov clothes and other wicked stuff.

V1 GALLERY
Absalonsgade 21B
1658 Copenhagen V
Note: Might wanna write them in advance as they are not always open.
Email either Jesper Elg (elg@mail.tele.dk) or Peter Funch
(mail@peterfunch.dk)
www.v-1.dk

Check out Peter Funchs photografies at www.peterfunch.com (The series: LAS VEGAS - MADE BY MAN). Very cool.

4) Zoo Bar is a must for the streetsavvy drinker. Hit the place on fridays for electromusic and drinks with the culturecrowd. Worth a visit just to check out our friend Kristian Horn$leths massive artbombing of the walls.

Zoo Bar
Kronprinsensgade 17, 1114 Copenhagen K

5) Bar Rouge @ Hotel Skt Petri is a great new bar. Comfortable place to hide out and relax. Might even wanna stay at Hotel Skt Petri. New designer-hotel in the city.

Hotel Skt Petri & Bar Rouge
Krystalgade 22, 1172 Copenhagen K
Phone# +45 33 45 98 00

Very difficult, and very expensive, yes. But if you're only here for a couple of months, it shouldn't be too hard. A bit difficult if you dont speak/read Danish, but check out http://www.dba.dk/as...p?RubrikId=1400 and go for "fremleje" - temporary rentable apartments. If you get the choise (which is unlikely) go for something in Kbh. N(nørrebro), V(vesterbro), K(downtown) or Ø(østerbro)

Good luck, and have a nice trip

Also, if worse comes to worse, PM Superstar......he lives in Denmark, although I am not sure of what city.

you can rent a bike pretty much anywhere in the city for free (you leave a deposit of about 5$ and get it back when you return the bike). you can return the bike anywhere and Copenhagen couldn't really be more bike friendly so i highly recommend doing that cause it makes getting around enjoyable and you might see some stuff that you wouldn't otherwise. Cristiana is a cool to visit, although last time i was there there were more cops than ppl, but it's still really interesting. food is damm expensive so try to be careful with eating out if you're on a budget.

edit: checked the thread too fast, didn't realize that you were looking to shop. don't know much about it, apart from Norse Store

Hey guys, I did a quick search and didn't find anything on the topic, but forgive me if something has been brought up before.

I'm going to be attending the University of Copenhagen for a year in August and I just thought I'd see if I could get any tips on places to go, things to see and what not. I've read the SuperCities Guide, but I'm sure there's more to know than what's posted there. I've been doing my research and just wanted to get a local perspective.

Anyone know any good clubs/bars in Copenhagen? I'm borrowing a friends apartment for a few days and need to know where to go during night time.

Also if you know any good shopping please let me know, I already went to some shops on krystalegade.

Thanks

You should definitely visit shops like; Il, Storm, ParisTexas and Mads Nørgaard. If you've already visited Krystalgade, then I'm guessing you've already been to WoodWood and Vibskov.
You can use www.aok.dk to find the addresses of the shops. They are all placed in inner Copenhagen.
Regarding the nightscene, then it really depends on what kind of people you want to party with.

I have to second hejski's nods to WoodWood and mads nørgaard! I could usually rely on mads nørgaard to find something I need. Norse is a treat. I like aok.dk but here are direct links for the above:
http://www.woodwood.dk/WW.htm
http://www.norsestore.com
http://www.madsnorgaard.dk

In terms of bars/clubs, our night's usually started at Stereo Bar, or Zoo Bar (http://www.zoobar.dk/) since DJ TOM + Trentemøller played every other Friday. I hear Stereo Bar has new ownership but if you are looking for hippster decadence, I guess Stereo Bar has the edge, or at least DID, since Bloc Party and Interpol visited after their concerts when we were busy hanging all over the bar.

Stereo Bar Address:
Linnesgade 16 A

If you are in Vesterbro, get to Boutique Lize before the lines start. Enjoy the reel-to-reels with everything from The Cure to the Rolling Stones. You can stay there until it closes and then head over to Ideal Bar which closes in the early morning, 6am if I recall. Then you can wander out with all the people you met to get some breakfast.

Boutique Lize Address:
6, Enghave Plads

Vega / Vega Nightclub / Ideal Bar: http://www.vega.dk/

If you are in Nørrebro, stop by to check out what's going on at Rust but I would recommend going to the Oak Room for some chit chat and good mixed drinks. I'm not sure you would classify that as hippster but check it out :)

Oak Room: www.oakroom.dk
Rust: www.rust.dk

2+ years since I've lived in Kobenhavn so I hope the above is still relevant :)

Vega has the best shows, and is huge.

DAKOTA Bar pay something like 75 dkk and free beer and champaign all night...

Kulorbar does the same thing but it's only until midnight (?). Lots of international students.

LA bar is fun, also lots of int'l students

Grab some skunk in Christiania and listen to some jazz

Yep. I'll think of more
