Designer/brand name pronounciation

the breaks

Recommended Posts

In the Raf Simons thread there's some discussion about this, and i realized i don't

have a clue how to pronounce a lot of the designers and brands i come across on here. For instance, for the longest time i thought you pronounce 'Hare' just like in english. So share your wisdom! Raf Simons, Hedi Slimane, Hussein Chalayan, Ann Demeulemeester

^Those ones I can deal with...I have no idea how Margiela is pronounced though...and Visvim too.

its a bit hard to explain pronounciation, would be easier to say it :P

raf simons = raf see-mohns

ann demeulemeester = ann di-meel-e-meest-eh® - di like in distant, e like in 'leg'

martin margiela is, well, just 'margiela'. not like marchiela, g like in gay.

I alwasy thought it was marg-ay-la (g as in gay, game, guava)...but whenever I go into a store that carried him, the always pronounce the "g" like jesus, or jones.

can someone fill me in on Hare and Visvim?

I'm pretty sure Hare is pronounced Ha-ray with it kinda rolling off your tongue although I'm sure a lot of people pronounce it as Hair. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Visvim is pretty easy, especially if you break it up. Vis-vim.

This is a funny thread.

Hedi should be "eddy," and Visvim should be "beesu-beem"...

Hmm, Im curious if Visvim should be pronounced

Beesu bimu/ ビーズビム

or

Beesu bin/ビーズビン

I don’t think it would be said as "beesu-beem" as there is no single “M” consonant in Japanese, and I would thus lean toward Beesu bin/ビーズビン. Curious what others (herp,Jmatsu, soso, etc) have to say about this.

ヴィスヴィム

So, it's pronounced pretty much exactly as it is spelled.
