Fitpic as promised...

26310816533_66c99cb738_c.jpg

Really nice loose fit.

On 2nd thought, I might need belt, it nearly barely hanging on my hip.

26310815173_bc18a5cbc6_c.jpg

Inseam definitely wearable with double cuff, still making up my mind between that or 1 mega-cuff.

26642044050_4b9a13970a_c.jpg

Closeup up.

Really beautiful fabric, reminded me of Eternal 872 and SC 40400, subtle slub.

Thats it for now.

Cheers!

Rescued the thread from 2nd page just in time for a much needed update....fiew.....

26910477122_4102a2543b_c.jpg

I like to roam around the city center street photographing.

For this short trip, start from a major landmark of the city: huge fountain roundabout with 2 welcoming statues in the middle, light does not look good but I need some fresh air anyway...

26971173236_dd57030f37_c.jpg

Walking down, saw a man on a mission hauling bird cage, interesting sight...

Huge construction on the middle section of the road (left side of the pics) for a much need/hopefully not delayed underground train project.

26910476052_60a68ee256_c.jpg

Somewhat tying this walk to the thread with picture of nearby Japanese embassy, Koinobori flying high against impending gloom...

27004697985_3143c118bb_c.jpg

Like to tempt fate with no umbrella,

what better motivation to fade a jeans then to run like a demon to neaby shelter  ;)

26398995354_4c4b2332ed_c.jpg

Still time for obligatory tour jeans + NB shot.

27004696985_080dac342e_c.jpg

Continuing down the path, this is Sarinah, Indonesia's first shopping center, built when mullet & flarey jeans is the rage of the day.

26400701153_a7a88c59d2_c.jpg

Up the bridge, she is looking really hype for the new LTE network!

27004695715_ceac2f1d46_c.jpg

Rain happens....sheltering in front of 2 American "Icons"

26730793340_cf7a42a571_c.jpg

Next block is the infamous Starbucks, the one that got caught up in the major bombing incident months back..

+ fearless guy with food stall trying to beat the traffic.

"Mobile drink cycler" (thats what I call them anyway) they sell instant coffee drink, herbal drink, cup noodle (complete with hot water dispenser at the back), pretty impressive entrepreneurial spirit.

26400690883_7b91a30a2e_c.jpg

26936300501_b3840f24e3_c.jpg

Ending the brief walk at nearby local cafe + fat bird latte art.

Bonus:

27029587535_f98b580594_c.jpg

Fountain at night.

26996278006_297ddc66f5_c.jpg

Mad traffic + train construction on the other side.

Thats it for now...

Going indoor for this edition of weekend updates,

26561218144_e5b4163a3c_c.jpg

Shopping mall is a very popular place to hangout here in Jakarta.

Grand Indonesia is one with the craziest interior around.

Following is brief tour through this building to the cinema theatre.

27167182865_a3e6967dc5_c.jpg

Full Japanese style lamp complete with tree and moss things

26562717093_06824c5d60_c.jpg

27098756611_15d739d212_c.jpg

They manage to cram in some full size amusement park into the building.

27134058006_eff5d52814_c.jpg

26892822750_d4c758c7da_c.jpg

Romanesque decoration with trees

26561173214_6c26aefc26_c.jpg

Yes...that is life size fortune cat.

Restaurant here likes to play around with decoration concept to attract diners more, does not always reflect on the quality of the food though.

26561156094_43dfe7bef9_c.jpg

26562615393_e6e8d41d9f_c.jpg

Rockefeller wannabe something....complete with music sync fountain which goes off every hour

More randomness, I like the railing style of this one.

26562638493_4572cc93f4_c.jpg

Magnum (the ice cream) Cafe...maximum decadence...

27098710711_2418ebc14f_c.jpg

27134009076_c9b305a23f_c.jpg

Felt like 2 different world...the Chinese style gate really felt out of place when it is next to:

26562610503_119098af8f_c.jpg

50s style ads blown big, feels like its trying to touch on the romance of American dream era...

The escalator lead up to the cinema theatre:

27133981496_a0267fd2d8_c.jpg

Big & grand.... My jaw did drop when I first saw this.

Saw the X-men: Apocalypse (micro review: its ok not as good as Civil War)

Bonus:

26561108204_9208949c22_c.jpg

Really like the cut!  :)

Not sure if I can let it go to the next contestant....

Thank you for sticking around on this really brief tour.

Sorry I did not update as much as I would have like. (weekday is pretty boring work routine for me  )

Cheers!

Challenge accepted.  B)

26612346814_b0321a2a73_c.jpg

Glimpse of my workplace. I work at a shop selling printer's ink, toner, ribbon cartridges & etc.

Small shop but it does supply with with something to somehow keep up with this clothing obsession.

26943852500_b317ef97b1_c.jpg

Outside absolute concrete jungle.

The shop is located among shops specializes in electronics & speakers so nearly everyday there is crazy loud bassy music going through the airwaves of people testing the speakers. Seriously annoying...

26943864410_e4aa6344f4_c.jpg

Bento box from home for lunch. Trying to be healthy-hipster-wannabe.

City is in the middle of really humid & hot weather. Pretty sure I will need to wash the pair again before sending it off to the next contestant.

That's all for now.

Next update might be more interesting.

Cheers!

Had a chance for a short trip to Bali, Island of yoga/vegan/healthy hipster for a friends wedding.

The event starts not too long after my arrival on the island at Saturday afteroon.

Unfortunately did not take any photos of the wedding reception, don't think its a good idea to wear denim on such formal occasion (though I did see some youngster wear jeans which irk me quite alot)

The next day though I did document my trip to one of the best villages in the island, Ubud.

26731740684_3fb3f03185_c.jpg

Very fortunate to attend The Ubud Food Festival which is held for 3 days over the weekend, so I manage to catch it on the last day.

It is held by the same women (Janet De Neefe if I am not wrong) behind the famed Ubud's Writer Festival.

26732293893_f4101484db_c.jpg

The festival ground called "taman kuliner" which translate to culinary garden.

partially covered by foliages, not a huge space but packed with food stales.

27063543310_a9d434ff0e_c.jpg

On the other side, overlooking beautiful greenery. Really good breather to come here from the sometimes dreadful concrete jungle that is Jakarta.

27338798885_2dc6cb3abf_c.jpg

26732296523_c9681986e3_c.jpg

"Pasar Culiner" which translated to culinary market.

Somewhat insane amount of food sampling inside.

More on this later...

27268367581_fb5ccf4c86_c.jpg

Never too far from this korner.  :)

27241437842_b1dcf41c5c_c.jpg

What I love about this festival is that they holds talk/interview events in public for free throughout 3 days on topics that has some connection to food.

This is where they hold the talk.

27063527130_8a1905968d_c.jpg

The talk I attend is on portrait & food photography, subject of somewhat high interest to me.

The interviewer was Rio Helmi, an amazing Indonesian photojournalist I highly respect.

Had a chance to take his workshop some years back, the guy does not hold back any punches when critiquing your work.

The interviewee was Petrina Tinslay, also famous photographer in the field of food photography from Australia.

More information can be found here: http://ubudfoodfestival.com/program/think-talk-taste-nigella-co-food-and-portraiture/

I find the talk to be quite fascinating, shifting topics from her past experience, influencer to the changing state of food photography to general photography industry.

27241431902_bdeaabd125_c.jpg

Enjoying ice cappucino (very possible blesphamy for coffee hipster) & the talk.

After the talk I went back to the Culinary Market mentioned earlier.

Although looks pretty packed, the atmosphere was somewhat chill.

27268347631_fd7386e0e0_c.jpg

27338771195_6ed7e235d4_c.jpg

Crazy delicious Satay bar, with glimpse of the denim.

26731720014_abe8d10982_c.jpg

Followed that up with some "Nasi Campur" (literal translation to "mixed rice"), essentially its rice with whatever side you want.

In this case I choose veg, lamb & squids.

27268342071_b1fb02e322_c.jpg

27241414652_db6a9a8c28_c.jpg

26731709424_3e4d247741_c.jpg

Ending everything (my tummy intake not that huge unfortunately) with seriously hipster-ish ice cream flavor of Organic Vanilla Beans with Bamboo Charcoal (I don't even know you can eat charcoal) + "Jamu Wedang Jahe" which traditionally is an Indonesian herbal drink made of ginger transformed to Sorbet here.

Pretty hard to go wrong with Taste of Ginger and vanilla + crunchy charcoal, refreshing stuff!

With tummy filled, I venture to the village center.

Its a very touristic part of the village.

27338705945_24608fd7e9_c.jpg

Up that main street is the famous Ibu Oka Suckling Pig.

Lifted from obscurity single-handedly by Anthony Bourdain to world stage.

27338736685_756714861f_c.jpg

Opted to walk on another direction, across the road is the main Ubud market.

27268320411_01a1452e19_c.jpg

27063495270_77e9274717_c.jpg

Traditional wet/dry market by early morning, tourist merchandizes dominates by the late morning till late noon.

27268311371_20a8593603_c.jpg

I did mentioned its very touristic place, not sure how I feel about remaking a village like this though...

Quite common to see offerings to the gods on store front like this.

Not a good idea to anger the gods by stepping on it.

Indonesia is predominantly Muslim but Bali is special in that it is predominantly Hindu.

27268308591_1623600bab_c.jpg

More view of the same Ubud market (its huge!) as I make my way down....

27338717865_03dac5fcc0_c.jpg

To one of my favorite lounging cafe, needless to say it is filled with hipster vibe inside.

26732227593_86a305b5ed_c.jpg

27063478140_f0bb8640b3_c.jpg

Comfy, Rocking chair, great recycling idea.

27241365202_2a7e489a9a_c.jpg

27268288231_5b2f351046_c.jpg

They serve drinks on this paddle, complete with water and biscuits on the side.

Coffee is pretty good, I can stay for hours in there, really laidback atmosphere...

After wasting lounging for sometime, took a cool nice stroll around...

Its a pretty safe area to just walk around on your own, alot of tourists & backpackers.

27268281891_7c433814cd_c.jpg

27339962346_31f86177e2_c.jpg

26731653454_c24535cddd_c.jpg

Slowly making my way to a small, quaint Japanese restaurant cooked by a single Japanese lady which is pretty rare.

26731654494_955b506dee_c.jpg

One last food photog to end the day.

Had a morning flight back to reality the next day (today) so this is the only documentation I did.

Thank you for following...  :)

If you are interested in the food festival, more information can be found: http://ubudfoodfestival.com

Hope I am coherent enough up there, my writing can be confusing

Cheers!

Brings back some fond memories and makes me miss living in Asia!

Thank you all, its a nice short breather from the grind of the city.

@Xtan

No jeans shop but there are custom surfboard & motorcycle shops around.

@Oom

If you put an effort to travel out of the village center, you can still find life untouched by the modern commerce.

Its getting harder every year with villa spring up in place of the rice paddy, but still possible for now.

On similar note, this might be the beginning of it all...

26731661374_77561b8f0b_c.jpg

Located on the same strip of road as the dq.

Sadly, I heard its the village elders who give the green light for this to exist, money talk really loud in the 90s I guess...  :(

On happy note,

27275900542_91b0359f20_c.jpg

Current state of the jeans with natural light.

Mobile phone camera doing its best, pretty sure its darker color in reality.

Will very likely wash this again before sending it off, fabric in somewhat gross sticky state.

Cheers!

Wow, two months in indonesia really seems to have knackered those jeans... what a beautiful shade of blue coming through on the thighs! the fabric looks a lot like the sugar cane slack denim, great texture.

@Chicote

Don't want to get the next contestant hope up, It might just be my phone's camera rendering it lighter then real life.

Pretty anti-climatic end to my leg of the tour with nothing really much happening this week...

(did have another meetup with Oom...but me, in my infinite wisdom and awe of talking to him, forgot to take pictures commemorating this)

Closing the loop with Jeans in the bucket for another wash, which it badly needed.

Don't want to risk sending biological toxic package to the other side of the world.

Did send a message to Lorenzo Lamas aka Spitfiredealer asking his address.

Just a matter of time till the jeans dried.

Will get it out asap.

Been a blast guys & gals!

Cheers!
