I was visiting friends in taipei for chinese new year and a friend of mine started a record collection. a project i've been putting off for years. He really inspired me to start my own. Can anyone suggest some must haves for my new collections.

get every single prince record every made, including singles with extended dance versions and crazy b-sides.

if you are lucky you might be able to get some records that included posters or other gimmicks.

you cant go wrong with the greatest pop musician... ever.

but.. dont bother. just go to itunes music store and download/buy everything you like.

when i dj now i am super lazy and just bring 2 cd's with the same songs on them, and mix between them.

if i had it my way i would just plug my ipod in and just kinda dance around and do whatever a dj does.

awesome, chad. That is exactly what i would do if i was a dj. How tedious to carry around a bunch of vinyl that's so valuable, only to play a couple minutes from one side...

I really like to buy records, though; it's about having something physical, (and a burned cd with mp3s on it doesn't count!)

"having something physical" gets a little outta control when you have 2000 records. i had drinks with a friend last night and he had to sell everything because there was just no room in his tiny tokyo apartment.

just get a powerbook with this software >> http://www.dj1800.com/screenshots.php

I don't see the point in collecting anything other than vinyl. CDs are so disposable and don't make nice objects. Unless they are nicely designed digipaks or something, but still, there's nothing like a 30x30cm sleeve.
