More school today. Dirt denim in the classroom...

IMG_6587_zps3e1a0e9e.jpg

Came home and plucked a few veggies with the wife to eat with some baked sweet potatoes

IMG_6611_zps1720bdd2.jpg

but enough of that day-in-day-out. Tonight, a tour of the other room upstairs. As hinted in previous posts, my first and deepest passion is music and I have been collecting records, cds, and tapes since I was probably 10-11 years old. (Im 31 now...)

My collection is actually mostly still boxed up because... well... I ran out of room. Also there are some boxes in the pics because, with the exception of the IKEA record racks, I build all my own media storage furniture so it's a slow process since it has to fit in between the million other commitments I have.

Anyways, the record room and a few of the treasures within...

everything filed by genre then alphabetical. Basically just like they do at the store.

Rack1: has Noise/Industrial/Exp, Rock/Etc, Country, Soul, 10" records, Reggae/Rap, Punk/HC.

I'm holding INCAPACITANTS "Repo"

IMG_6613_zps76143f13.jpg

One side is Metal CDs (L-Z) and the other side is "odd shaped packaging" (mostly Noise/Industrial) and Books.

Im holding original AGNOSTIC FRONT "Victim in Pain"

IMG_6619_zps0afc0f94.jpg

Rack 2: all METAL

I'm holding original press MUTIILATION "Vampires of Black Imperial Blood" 2lp

IMG_6623_zps758dd004.jpg

as you can see above the second rack is in a closet I have taken the doors off of. I built tape racks to go on either side and these are all metal demos. I have TONS more tapes but need to build more racks to fit them. Not sure where though...

I'm holding original press GRAND BELIALS KEY "Mocking the Philanthropist" 2lp

IMG_6628_zps7a514a90.jpg

IMG_6632_zpsd0911932.jpg

CD racks holding: Rock/Etc, Punk/HC, Soul, Rap, Jazz, Classical, Noise/Industrial/Exp, Metal (A-L). Small tape rack with un-filed "recent" purchases (though some have been sitting for years.) I have thousands of cds and tapes in storage. Just not enough space...

I'm holding a MAUTHAUSEN ORCHESTRA "Gravitational Arch of Sex" 12 tape box set.

IMG_6638_zps2ebe04ff.jpg

All told that is probably about half the collection. Probably own about 5,000 lps, 6,000 cds, 2-3000 7"s god knows how many tapes.

I think a lot about purging stuff because, its such a hassle to move it around and honestly sometimes I stumble across an album that I love and haven't heard in years and then I realize that I am doing myself a disservice owning so much stuff but it's hard to sell them because they are so attached to my memories and identity. Like I can look at a shelf of CD spines and have waves of memories flashing over me just by reading the titles. I bit of a hoarder I suppose.

...then again... I have many friends with bigger collections.

Some special pieces that mean a lot to me:

Slave Labour "Vol 1+2" on deadline. Extremely rare original Macro/Richard Ramirez/Dave Gilden collab. Icon of 90s tape noise culture. (and thats my moms bronzed baby shoe next to it.)

IMG_6643_zps8533b6e9.jpg

IMG_6646_zps1414c1f7.jpg

Original BURZUM s/t on Deathlike Silence

IMG_6647_zps59277fa0.jpg

IMG_6649_zps84b8555e.jpg

Original Dodheimsgard demo tape. (Their 1st lp being the best Norwegian blackmetal record ever released)

IMG_6650_zps7e7da844.jpg

Original SODALITY "Beyond Unknown Pleasures" lp. (Better than Whitehouse!)

IMG_6652_zps5dd5b6ef.jpg

Original SUTCLIFFE JUGEND "We Spit On Their Graves" 10 tape set.

IMG_6653_zpsbffe1a81.jpg

....plenty more where that came from but this aint no record collector forum.

Big test tomorrow in Cost Accounting. Love tests after one week of class.

Settled in with this belgian style pale ale w/ Coriander to study a bit.

Not bad, although I should have saved it for a warm afternoon.

Til tomorrow...

Probably couldn't retire but I could buy some pretty nice jeans.

Really that's actually how it goes though.. my wife would never let me buy jeans at the pace I do if I wasn't subsidizing from selling records. It's a bit too easy... come across some demo a band gave me years ago, find out it sells for $250 now, realize  I really don't like it anyways.... New pair of Samurais right there!

Today I went to school, and it was boring.

I left and went to a few beer stores (beercraft, bottlebarn, bevmo) that were on my way home to get supplies for the holiday weekend. Found some labyrinth at BevMo that apparently the good employees saw fit to cellar for me at no extra cost! I recognized the old type label. Kind of rolling the dice I guess cause maybe it wasnt kept at good temp but I figured for $10 it's worth a shot!

IMG_6657_zpsb60d7100.jpg

Came home and set out my purchases so that I could wrap them up in my bag.

IMG_6667_zpsec5b6ca3.jpg

Then I took the garbage out and found, to my shock, that I have a volunteer tomato plant in my driveway. Im amazed its bearing fruit... that ground is like cement. Also makes me feel the fool since im breaking me back in the backyard while mother nature just does her thing out front with no help from anyone.

IMG_6666_zpsf21d85d9.jpg

Played the drums for a while to some guitar demos I pre-recorded. Hoping to start on the whole recording proper some time next week...

IMG_6669_zpsfbdd2a16.jpg

Then my wife reminded me we cant make dinner because we are out of groceries so I jumped at the chance to run out and grab groceries...

IMG_6661_zps3b5c1d92.jpg

because im such a great husband? well yeah...

...and because there is a tap room in my local whole foods!

IMG_6662_zps7b706bb5.jpg

IMG_6663_zpsdce46831.jpg

I got the Calabaza Boreal... interesting sour with grapefruit and peppercorn flavor. Always odd to sip a beer under cheap neon lights surrounded by organic food..

IMG_6664_zps4ccbac6f.jpg

Came home and finished preperations for the weekend, took an advanced accounting quiz and rewarded myself for my 98.3% score with the last of the Beer Camp bottles in my fridge, the Chico King

IMG_6670_zps8879a67f.jpg

Off to bed now. Tomorrow I have some work, some school and some play.

And something i HATE to do.

Man, I am cringing at what the earthquake could have done to your music collection room....

I'm sure a Japanese brand could be very successful with a heavyweight, loopwheeled t-shirt line based solely on the album cover art in that room.

I am quite amazed at that collection CS.need to get me a goof paying job so I can fund stuff like that.

But you said bands gave you demos, were you involved in the metal scene in some way. Apologies if I have missed this in one of your posts

Got a small beer gift package from Bruges, Seul kindly gave me some intel on them (comments are his):

Mont des Cats: actually brewed by Chimay for the Mont des Cats monastery located in Northern France. A lot like a slightly lighter version of a blue Chimay.

Westvletern - http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/westvleteren-extra-8/4935/ - the stand out in the trio:

Straffe Hendrik: good, albeit it not too complex a quad

I'm up here for a guys weekend with an old friend I haven't seen since my wedding. We share a lot of common interests but

I guess we decided to focus on one thing in particular that we both enjoy and it sort of kept me from being able to post updates. Also, my photos kind of stink.

I need some alka seltzer

Finally was able to sneak in a proper wholesome adventure on my last day up North.

Drove for about an hour through some beautiful country

IMG_6825_zpsaf79b3f6.jpg

to get to the Talupas Lake Trail

IMG_6826_zps1b024c47.jpg

A nice leisurely trail

IMG_6827_zps25b4cf4f.jpg

with lush surroundings

IMG_6829_zpsd8ee3794.jpg

up to the lake

IMG_6830_zps0c9a6422.jpg

I sat on the rock while my friends went for a quick swim.

*(also wearing my Hellers Cafe sweater, being in Seattle and all...)

IMG_6831_zpsb8a89b02.jpg

IMG_6832_zps21241622.jpg

Then back to Sea-Tac so I could squeeze into a plane

IMG_6835_zps671bacef.jpg

...and home.

IMG_6834_zpse3507584.jpg

Just having a bit of a recovery day today. 1:40 and i'm catching up on work emails in my gym shorts but I will pull the Dirt Denim back on at some point.

Palm!.. For heaven's sake no!.. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!..

To be honest, I dont even recall it... we were scraping out his fridge at that point. Not a fan?

Still enconed, the poor blighter

It gets worse. Had a big scare yesterday. Came home to find Charlie on the front porch with a really nasty hole in his leg and he was wailing. Ran him down to the emergency room and they gave me two options. $600 for surgery with a risky anesthesia or $960 with a really safe anesthesia. I couldn't live with myself if he hadn't survived on account of me trying to save $360... so $960 later and both my boys have e-collars on...

IMG_6851_zpsd239224c.jpg

IMG_6844_zps67882955.jpg

They had to put a drain in his leg to allow the wound to heal without infecting. Quite nasty. They said it was probably another animal.. the next door dogs are particularly nasty....but Charlie always keeps a safe distance from anyone. Turns my stomach thinking of him getting nipped at.

WARNING: Do NOT click spoiler if you are squeamish. You have been warned.

He's pretty doped up on painkillers. Normally he would never sleep in my lap. Or maybe he just loved the soft dirt denim. Either way it was a big scare so we enjoyed some downtime together.

Some shots from the end of the night when I went to take my boots off...

Today was just another long day at school...

IMG_6863_zpsb2676d32.jpg

Tomorrow I have big plans for the dirt denim. My time here is coming to an end.

While I was haning them up to dry, Marlowe got a roll of paper towels and startled circling me and taunting me. If a Boston Terrier does not want you to get something from him, you will NOT get it from him. They are fast!
