I seen the 50's repro thread and thought id start this thread on ww2 detailed jeans

The ww2 details are by far my favorite , from the unfinished seams to the random materal pocket bags they realy tell a story of the times and the cutbacks everyone had to make to support the war effort

some pics of my ww2 detailed jeans

also strange to see that the coin pocket is riveted but it just goes to show that the details we know are not set in stone and there were a lot of variation from pair to pair

A question on topic and off topic at the same time - ever notice how the Japanese refer to WWII lots as 'Great War'? I find it unusual, as to me that was a term more applicable to WWI, 1914 - 1918 as I am sure we all learnt in history. Anyway just a random musing.

This is based on nothing solid at all so don't quote me on it, but it might have to do with the fact that both the world wars in Japanese are referred to as 大戦(taisen), which has the character for big (大)in it and means great war. Now this differs from the standard word for war, 戦争(sensou), which gives a possible insight in this common misuse (at least from a Western point of view) of the term Great war to refer to WWII. So in Japanese when they say 第二次世界大戦(dainijisekaitaisen)ã€it would literally translate as the second global great war.

This is also not based on anything solid, but can't it also be the fact that Japan was more involved in WWII compared to WWI? The way I see it, WWI was mostly European countries and later the US. WWII was European countries, the US and Japan. Like when you think about it, Japan was a major player in WWII.

Again, not based on anything. Just a thought
