That's some funny shit ... sucks that the show wasn't as ill as it could've been. I still want to see some grime heads, real bad.

What weekend was that Roll Deep and Kane & Ghetts shit?

Any luck with uploading the Big H sets?

That was a weekend in 2005 I think?

I also saw roll deep, kane and ghetto in the park with Juelz santana for free. That shit was like an overseas grime fans dream.

I'm working on the H sets. Thing is, I have his material all over the place, on different CD's, and two computers. I want to put together a good zip, so I need certain things I can't find at the moment cause I'm a perfectionist. It WILL happen eventually though.

Nice man, what park was it at? Haven't seen many shows at outdoor spots, but there's nothing better than drinking in the park and catching a good show live in the summer.

The SHIFT crew pretty much run things as far as DUBSTEP goes here in Seattle. Check out their website

westcoastdubstep.com

there's a pretty good amount of free mixes from our own local producers as well as larger names: CLAW, Benga and Hatcha, etc, etc.

They also have their own record label ...

www.shiftrecordings.com (http://www.shiftrecordings.com)

As well as an internet radio show on

dubstep.fm

I'll have one of the guys get on here and sort out the links proper like... until then...
enjoy!

saw kode9 at exodus last saturday, those who know will know the ridiculousness of that lineup, and previous ones, was mental to say the least. but yeah, kode bloody smashed it! absoluteuly sick selection, proper mental sega style tunes, look out for 'sunset dub' by quarta330 i think, might be on his latest rinse show but i'm really not sure, heavy tune either way.
what dubstep tunes are people feeling at the moment anyway?

Yeah, overall it's a good mixtape. Some of the songs took a while to grow on me.

Love that track at the end with the chorus "If you're a soldier", it's been getting a lotta rotation on my end lately.

My only complaint is that I'm not really feeling Paper Pabs verses, his rhymes are pretty basic, he spits too slow ... and overall he just seems lazy compared to the others.

yea!

well i haven't heard it, but the word could be manor (=one's home)... white lightning isn't moonshine per se, from what i can gather it's cheap cider drunk in mass quantities by the lower class a la nighttrain. not that the rhyme makes more any sense that way as i'm not familiar with the ability of uk housing projects to produce in house bubbly.

A set I recently got my hands on some how:

Slew Dem- Rinse FM-2006
http://www.sendspace.com/file/veqyhn

Be forewarned....this set is pretty mediocre quality, HOWEVER, if you are willing to deal with that, I would say its a must-have. There are no guest MC's just slew dem DJ Matty D, and a mess of tracks, All Slew Dem, almost all produced by Waifer,,Sick, Sick producer. There are also appearences on tracks from Wiley, Lethal B, Fumin, Newham Generals and a couple more heads.

For the record, Slew Dem consists of: Kronik, Esco, Rage, G-man, Lexx-man, Tempa T, Shorty Smalls, Kraze, and sometimes Jammer(?)

So, there's been a couple grime CD's released recently. What're you guys listening to out of 'em?

Rage of Slew Dem Crew's Streets of Rage which right now is my favorite out of the other CD's that have come out recently ... others being Ghetto's Freedom of Speech, Scorcher's Simply the Best Vol. 2, and Organised Grime's OG Season Vol. 1.

I have mixed feelings about Ghetto's release, I like it right now, but I'm not sure if I'll get sick of it in the long run ... only time will tell. But there are some standout tracks, I really like Commandments and Mountain.

Scorcher's release is a let down for me, too many mainstream hip hop beats on it ... not really what I want to hear, and he's not spitting the shank bars that I'd rather hear from him.

OG Season Vol. 1 is a good release, I feel like a lot of people overrate their crew as a whole, and some of the MC's in that crew definitely need to get out of the game, but Dot, P Money, and Jendor hold it together on the lyrical end and the production isn't bad. There are some hype tracks on this album, and I'd say it's worth a check, my main problem is that there are a decent amount of tracks that sound really similar.

On the new diss track tip, P Money sent a good verse to Scorcher on a live set ...

"You'll flop like the career you're tryin' to defend
You ain't hard stop tryin' to pretend
I know mashman doing about 30 years
And you're tryin' to boast about drivin' offence
Don't tell me about drivin' offence
I'm a badboy you slightly resent"

Damn.

He walked off of the 'Wearing My Rolex' video shoot. That's the latest from him. Everyone knows what he's like though. He's only doing Bassline because that's what's likely to be big next, it's already huge in Mid England and it's been in the charts with that shite Delinquent song and now this.
Quality that people from the US know about grime.

no honestly, can someone fill me in on what the fuck wiley is getting up to... really.
anyone? i'm mad confused. what is this weird fucking semi-bassline house shit he's on? and why do i get the feeling it is going to blow up in about 6 months?

Not sure if it's true, but I've read that he recently signed with Atlantic Records, guessing this would be his first single on that major.

This Zip. Includes 4 of his latest ripped from radio. (hold tight logan sama and Grimeforum.com for the rips)

In order of Greeze level:

-Body Bag
-Cricket bag
-Nokia Charger Wire (the chorus is retarded, but kind of funny)
-King of Grime (this song has grown on me)

Enjoy.
This just changed my opinion on Skepta. Thanks.

but really though, have you listened to 'wearing my rolex' and then 'rolex sweep' and then watched the video of people trying to do the rolex sweep dance?

but its the same voice as GANGSTERS GANGSTERS...

why am i not completely hating though? i need answers. shit is kind of catchy.

You should be listening to

Big H(meridian)
Esco (slew dem)
Rage(slew dem)
R.A.( and the whole)Roadside G's
Saint Castro
Older Ghetto (NASTY era)
Ribz(SLK/Gully Gang)
Durrty Doogz(pre 04/05)
crazy titch

For that crack cocaine/murdering talk, the stuff above isn't as grimey IMO.

Revised.

New RSG's tape is good. I like it alot more than I expected. R.A. is a beast on this one. Plain and simple. This new (to me at least) cat Dr'z is pretty nice too. RSG's are really there own brand of grime if you know what I mean. I can't get with the whole "blood gang" shit, but other than that...sick.

Do you really want anything below 30hz? A high pass around 30-40 seems to really tighten things up so that shit wont get muddy especially on a bigger systems...

For those that don't know in US or whatever The Sun is Britain's leading newspaper but is known for printing bullshit or propaganded stories. It's basically just shite but caters heavily to the working class.

For someone new to grime, what's considered essential listening and classic material?

well the classic era was 2002-4 and pretty much was over by the time dizzee and wiley's albums came out. the roll deep grimey mixtape has a chunk of this on it and is a pretty widely available & solid intro.

here's some impeccable ones:
pay as u go - know we
dizzee rascal - i luv u
wiley - eskimo ( i would also put igloo there as well, aka wot u call it instrumental)
kano - girls and boys
more fire crew - oi
lethal bizzle - pow (aka forward)
ruff sqwad - misty cold
sticky feat ms dynamite - boo (not really grime per se)

some personal faves:
skepta - dti
geeneus vs wizzbit 10" on rinse
roll deep - ice rink 1 and 2
tinchy stryder - underground
danny weed - creeper, salt beef (sick, sick bassline track)

these are highly regarded but i haven't managed to track them down yet (i don't mess around with downloads)

big shot - stomp
musical mob - pulse x
j-sweet - gutter
roll deep - bounce (need this one badly)

You'll over play this too.

Highlights are "suck your mom", this one sick really early Skepta track where he sounds so much less "basic" (for lack of a better word) than he does these days, and suprisingly, 2 straight up hip hop tracks, one of which has H going on about how "he don't spit no more" cause he's "too busy getting that money cuddy" only to proceed to put 9Millimajor and a half decent sounding paperpabs to shame on the last verse.

Good stuff.

bumping this thread - i'm heading to london next week and swinging through blackmarket and uptown - any suggestions on stuff that's banging right now i should check out? esp stuff that's not distroed in the us. it's kind of hit or miss talking to the dudes behind the counter.

some of the stuff i picked up last trip that i dug (last april):
Komonazmuk vs Whiteboi - Shankstep
Skream - Loefah remixes (not a big tempa fan but this was killer)
Geeneus - Darkboy (unbelievable track)
Digital Mystikz - Changes

i'm not the biggest dubstep fan but really like the really heavy, f**ked up stuff. i bought some grime which i enjoyed but wasn't too choice compared to '03-'05 or even 06. i'm sort of out of it, many thanks if you can help

It is the first in a series of pre-recorded murk-fests, and the quality is much better than the fuck radio series if you know about it.

Microphone Champion session 1 feat- Skepta, Frisco, JME, Jammer, Shorty, and Slickman:

THE MIX: My theory with this mix was to tap into a new sound filtering its way to the surface in the dubstep world as it moves closer to the techno sound, and also to represent the more adventurous techno sounds as well. There is much creativity to be found where these sounds are meeting in the middle.

Many people have only heard the slower sounding dubstep, but like any genre, it is not limited to those sounds. By layering the slower dubstep beats and bass underneath the more straightforward techno beats, I hope to find a rhythmic variation that taps into the core of both sounds. Of course, as you will hear, there is plenty of dubstep that is tapping into the more complex and energetic rhythmic patterns of techno (and any number of other influences) as well.

Using Ableton Live, I am able to layer multiple sources in a manner that allows for maximum adaptability and infinite possiblity. There is much "on-the-fly" manipulation, including looping and tweaking of effects, as well as instant re-imagining of each song's original composition. No song on this mix is heard quite in its original form. All have been tweaked and manipulated to suit the goal of the mix, which is to use the original sound sources to create something entirely new in the process. The songs are at the core of the mix, but in the end, I hope to have left my own fingerprint on the sometimes disparate, but always exciting music coming from both genres.

this mix is serious fire, you wont be disappointed.
