to be completely honest, making it throughout the night without fashion drugs isnt that hard. the only thing thats difficult to cope with is all the drugged out people around 1-4 am.. and all the trash that you'll be shuffling through .

i find it easier to make it around sober than it is on drugz.
the only thing i worry about is my feet starting to hurt. wear some new balance?

after assessing whether or not i could leave his ass lying on the ground stage left at the neon garden, i decided to take him to the hotel around 1040.

last night partially made up for it though. had a great time with some great people, diplo/le castle vania (really) put on some great sets. and of course SMD was on a whole nother fucking level.

how was everyone else's experience? i peeked into the kinetic field in the coliseum for a few minutes, holy sea of people. it was an incredible sight but i really didnt want any part of it haha.

I'm still trying to piece together everything from saturday night of edc but I can honestly say that the weekend as a whole absolutely exceeded my expectations. Friday's neon garden lineup was one of the best nights of music I've seen in a really long time. I was expecting to see a ridiculously technical set from fake blood and somehow he still had my jaw wide open in disbelief at the things he was doing. I've never seen anyone work cdj's/serato (or whatever the fuck he was using) that way in my life. Then Shinichi Osawa came on and gave us all a lesson in using the kaos pad and he absolutely destroyed his set too, I was really impressed. The highlight of the night though had to have been boys noize. Somehow this guy has only gotten better since I first saw him 2 years ago at coachella. Until now that had been one of my favorite dj sets that I'd probably ever seen but on friday night he outdid himself unlike any dj ive ever seen. The tracks off his new album punished the sound system and our ears in the most beautiful way possible and the entire time I was kept thinking to myself just how heavy it all was. He mixed both classics (& down, lava lava, my moon my man) and new tracks and at the end he even did a mix between a 90s hardstyle track and a milli which just showed how talented the man is behind tables. Everyone in my group that went both days agreed that his set was the best of the weekend, even those that weren't that familiar with his stuff. Friday was definitely a lot more fun just because the crowd was much smaller and more manageable and I really can't recall enough of saturday to really talk about it except that I caught about 30 mins of major lazer's set because I couldn't really move from that stage and diplo played cockney thug, midnight request line, and in for the kill which definitely made my night. Overall it was way better then any massive ever been to including last years edc but thats only because of the neon garden. I probably don't make much sense right now.... I really need to sleep but I hope everyone else had a good time

hard is getting too hyped.. i went to the first 3.. nye, hard summer, haunted mansion.. nye was sick.. summer killed.. and haunted mansion was jus FILLED w/ ravers.. its not a rave.

idk the vibe is turning to shit, hard 13 was js filled w/ people whom i cannot respect nor do they respect others..
im expecting this summer to js be a huge disappointment.

edc was pretty much my goodbye rave.
it was untoppable.

and my home girl just rolled through and we were talking about edc (this was her first rave) and yesterday was the first time she dropped as well and she said she was scared to go to another one because it was so amazing and i was like you know what i dont think anything could top this one either haha...

This EDC was in my opinion better than last years. I had way more fun. And Kaskade's set was epic. Although, he should've played last instead of Paul Van Dyk.

yup. we were right there as when it came down. they even stopped playing for a minute, adding to the terrible vibe it had already brought with it. just the icing on the cake in helping me decide that it was all a little too hectic. i definitely enjoyed myself but this years edc was my first and will be my only massive.

went to spectrum festival in sf this weekend, boys noize and phoniex were playing but PHOENIX CANCELLED those french fuckers. 75% of the reason, i payed for that ticket was to see phoenix, i love bn, don't get me wrong, but i've seen him like 3 times before that.

anyways boys noize killed it anyways, had mad debaucherous times so it was cool, for about an hour everyone went on the stage so it was an intimate and fun set

i only went to friday. pretty much stayed in the neon garden all day. i really enjoyed the dubstep that was being played. 12th planet was killin it. the bass was incredible on that big system. and i feel the same way kiefer does for the rest of the night.

Major late pass here, but I just gotta reiterate on what peeps have been sayin, EDC 2009 was TOO DOPE.

I was originally only planning on going Friday, peer pressured into going both days last minute; wallet rape FTL. Boys Noize was probably the best act for Friday but too bad I couldn't see him much cuz my buddies dragged me to the mainstage for Oakenfold :(. Shinichi Osawa was so fucking awesome though and he definitely lived up to my expectations. Foamo, Fake Blood and CPUClub had some pretty solid sets so I was pretty satisfied. ATB was actually very good; I thoroughly enjoyed his set.

Saturday was a different story though; different vibe, way more people on drugs, wayyyy more of a clusterfuck, etc. I dunno about you guys but Major Lazer was kinda a let down :/. Le Castle Vania tore shit up though; at this point I was rolling bawls and he happens to drop a ridiculously sick set that blows me through the roof. I was orgasming in pleasure when he dropped Phantom pt 2; crowd exploded at that point. Simian Mobile Disco also did not disappoint; I just wish more of my friends liked electro which is obviously the superior form of electronic dance music whilst on drugs.

I definitely give thumbs up to Kaskade cuz that set went perfectly with my roll come-up. Other than that Groove Armada and Markus Schulz were pretty decent aswell. I give EDC 2009 a 9/10 rating, but I did enjoy day 1 more cuz of that immense electro line-up + ATB.

so my friend told me a story about edc..

he slangs.. so he brought like 2 jars. and he finished selling all of them around like.. 3 or 330. after he cleans out he leaves the kinetic field. u guys know about how the gates to get in and out of that place were impossible. so he has to climb up on a drink machine and climb over the fence into the stands.
he thinks he drops something.. but then he's like na i probably js was hearing things. so he leaves. when he gets to his car he reaches for his phone to call his friend, and no phone in his flannel pocket! he's like fuck thats what dropped. so he goes to the gate.. and tries to bribe the security to let him in.. like offering 50 bucks and shit.. but they wont budge. so he js makes a diversion and breaks passed them. he's dodging left and right trying to keep away from yellow security.. he forgets that theres black shirted cops..and they come out of "no where" and take him down. in the process his shoes fall off and they throw them over the gate of the exit lol and carry him out.

pretty funny when i heard it but he lost a lot of customers on that cell..

thought it was pretty damn good, first thing i noticed was how weak the snare sounded, definitely layer them up or if you can find a good snare in a track without anything over it sample it, i have an EXS instrument with nothing but sampled drum hits, they can be useful, i might be able to up some for you actually

I hadn't really noticed till you mentioned it but now I can totally tell it needs more low end punch or something. I literally have no samples except what came with logic so if you could up those I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks for the feedback.

verb is correct. voyeur is just about shit right now in sd. good sound system, laid back dress code, insane two-story led light display behind the booth and a pretty decent crowd too. only complaints i have are 1. getting too drunk and not remembering much of his set at all and 2. perhaps they could try pumping a little more ac into the dance floor area. i remember myself and a good deal of other people having to step back to the bar periodically because it was just so damn sweltering.

im paying and hitting hard up regardless. it just sort of sucks because i planned on bringing some buddies who are relatively new to the electronic music bit. i feel that if i were in their shoes there'd be no way i'd shell out 70 for this shit.

also, i cant help but get a little skeptical over the great western forum's ability as a decent massive (?) venue. its smack in the middle of inglewood which sketches me out after coming across one too many shady characters roaming around edc. its also primarily indoors, i always liked how the shrine had a few outdoor stages that were relatively easy to get to. makes for easy means of cooling down and catching a breath now and again.

i digress...there is a sebastian live set, there is the bloody beetroots (so long as they put down a hard summer 2008 quality set and not anything like their coachella disappointment). and there's drugs too. hey yall why not.

Sorting by month is a really good idea, I make smart playlists to sort all my music into bpm ranges but I hardly even use those anymore. Now I just dump everything I download per month into monthly folders and make 2 playlists, one for everything and the other for only the standout tracks. I still need to come up with a better system though because a bunch of my genre folders that I use for dj'ing are already outdated

i didn't go but from what i can gather it was wayyy overpacked. the fire marshall shut it down because the fire lanes were blocked with mass amounts of people and kids were jumping off rails trying to get in the main stage. riot police came to break up the party

should've held it at the shrine..

HARD was retarded..the venue was way too small. By the time I got in I caught the last song crystal castles played (the last song of the night). Then they said the fire marshal was not gonna let the show keep going until everyone sat. And as we sat the police marched in with riot gear and tear gas. And shut down the venue and the street arresting people and breaking up people coming down and trying to dance still. Was complete chaos, I didn't get to dance a step!

There was NO way that many people would fit in there... The underground stage was pathetic and they capped it at like 200 people... Leaving the rest of the thousands in the tiny ass arena

Only a refund is really not enough... They should do what another promotion company did and give two entries per Hard Summer ticket to the next event

i heard about that, where did it go down? would have been nice to know. me and my buddies were ass out in the middle of inglewood with shit to do. smoked some pot ate some jack in a box and crashed in our cutty hotel room. not exactly how i expected it all to pan out for us last night.

our predictions were completely true, though. way too many dirty, dumb ravers. probably saw one maybe two other people outside of my group of friends who i was able to look at/perceive as a real human being. i mean daimn, 16 year old girls rolling their faces off wearing not much more than a bra and thong. the decline of western civilization version 2.

We ended up going to the beach.. buying some blankets and blasting the ipod. What a night...

At first i didn't agree too much about everyone saying how bad the crowd was going to be, but just waiting in line i witnessed all the dumbasses in attendance.

*EDIT* hardfest website officially stated they are going to give refunds. I guess that makes up for a bit... sucks for the people who had to travel from far away tho.

We were really fucking lucky. The cops came at least once an hour and eventually required us to place volunteers in different spots around the neighborhood with decibal meters. But yes, it went off without a hitch ;)

so all these noob 2nd time ravers hit up hard summer, and see that the only way to get downstairs..is to hop the wall! dumbasses.
people were seriously trying to just push their way down the EXIT.. so dumb..

i dont know who is to blame either all of the rolling idiots who popped 3 pillls before even entering.. or hard for thinking they could fit 15k people in 1 stadium.. i mean if everyone sat down in the stands.. there still wouldnt have been any room.. silly snakes.

i hear the refund is.. u mail in your ticket and they send u a check back.
probably for just the ticket price on the actual ticket..

Not gonne lie, I was one of the dudes that jumped too.. but thats because there was no way I was gonna get stuck on those stands, and the underground stage was so whack... The place was a hazard, even without the jumping... At 8:30 the floor was half full already and there was still HUGE lines outside... The underground stage was a 30 foot hallway with the DJ playing in a tiny corner... if they bring it back to the shrine everything will be ok

I never heard a full dubstep set before, and I was really impressed...
maybe it was the loud speakers playing me, or me just being hyped thinkin the night was gonna be dope... but I was completely sober, and still got hyped after every mix/cut... and that ras kass song he did sounded so dope that night, tho I wasnt really feeling it when I listened to it again today
