i'm moving into my basement in about a month or so after the addition for my grandfather is finished being added onto my house and i would like some ideas on how i wanna lay it out, any furniture i might wanna buy, stuff like that and i figured what better place than superfuture than to try and find some ideas. i'd post a picture of mine but that would be kinda pointless considering its the size of a prison cell and there is CRAP everywhere. that and i dont have any good ones hahaha.

I strive for my room to look like this. I really like the minimal look with the bed dresser and I guess thats a table back there. I coul do that if I took my TV out of my room but I love Call of Duty too much.:(

Is that a transformer back there?

Thanks for the words.

poly800rock : I looped twine through the truck mounting holes so that the board hangs off a pair of picture frame hangers. It works pretty well.

mlproject : I purchased the clock off eBay. There a bunch of nice vintage flip clocks on there as well.

Sook A Look : Here's a detail of the toys. I have a few others scattered around the home.

I love the contrast between the ultra-ordered jeans rack and the rest of the stuff, this just serves to underline the obsessive nature of jeans collecting.

Well, I don't really need a dresser as my closet has all sorts of shelving units built into the walls. I've made do with those. I kind of prefer it, as it keeps the main room nice and clean.

For some reason this sort of not quite Mission Revival stuff just drives me up the fucking wall.

I wish I could neg rep your folks for buying this motherfucker. It's like some first year survey of american architecture student got stoned and slapped together a set of blueprints and handed it to the contractors. Is this the design your parents liked most of the six available in their gated community? Jesus.

Right. This thread is clearly titled "post pictures of your room/closet/house"........you posted your parents' house and car. What does that accomplish/contribute other than showing your love for ridiculously pompous boistering?

If you want to start a "show us what your parents/immediate family own" thread then feel free to do so. Doing it here just makes you look like a tool.

I'm going to start putting my rich uncle's car collection purchases in the "Recent Purchases" thread and Hedi Slimane's runway pics in WAYWT.

england, you gotta understand that if he posted his NYC house he wouldn't look so cool and get so much e-cred.
i am also pretty sure that the only photo that he found of his house was with the ferrari at the garage door, he really isn't posing at all(sarcasm).

it's good to see people living large though, it's a pity that they have such shitty taste in architecture.

It's chill, you are entitled to your own opinion.

But let me say this, trying to put me down doesn't change the fact that it's real. Don't make un-educated assumptions as to where I don't live and what cars I don't drive.

And lastly, unless you know the person, don't label me or anyone else as the usual "rich kid" that lives off his parents and thinks he is going to fall back on their finances. Clearly I don't have that state of mind. I am going to college getting an education, and I don't even plan on working for my fathers corporation.

Yes, the stereo type of the kid who wastes away living off his parents exists, I have some friends like that. But don't assume the ways of another just to make yourself feel better about your own situation. In my honest opinion, the only reason why someone would try and put a wealthy person down is because they are jealous.

dude, you drive a fucking mercedes sl500 and you say you don't live off your parents?yeah, you are a really humble and down to earth guy, that's what a mercedes of that price tag says.
i mean, i am not jealous, i am glad that some people are able to live that kind of life, but don't come with that kind of bullshit here.

No one is putting you down, you're only digging yourself deeper. Likewise, no one ever said that your family couldn't own that house, I simply remarked that posting pictures of something that isn't yours in a thread about your house/apartment is a little obnoxious. After all, you simply posted a Ferrari and a large house without prefacing it with, "I don't live here, I'm a student living in a dorm, but this is my parent's house". No one is jealous here........ A 97' Maranello and a horrible attempt at a neo-Tuscan villa isn't impressing anyone.

englandmj7
06-21-2007, 12:29 AM
Jesus dude. You just don't quit.

Not a single person is offended that your parents bought you an SL500. That's awesome, I'm genuinely happy for you. Point is, there is a time and a place to show off your assets..........if you're going to do it, have some tact & class.

seemeugly
06-21-2007, 12:38 AM
Seriously. I'm about a million times more offended by your house's existance than by the fact that you live there.

And nobody is saying that it's not great to have nice things and to fucking mini-ball all over the place. What people are offended by is you coming at them with some "I'm not some average rich kid" shit and then letting your parents write the check for your car every month. There are plenty of awesome rich kids both on this forum and who I know in real life who have a humble, tongue in cheek outlook about having won the birth lottery. Maybe you'd be a little more bearable if you woke up and realized that it's not about your fucking parents money, it's about you.

06-21-2007, 12:42 AM
No, your dad owns an F430. Start using the correct pronouns and you wouldn't seem like such a wanker.

Also, if you're going to project this image, try and avoid ridiculous holes in your story. That house is not entirely in your name; that would defy simple inheritance/family gifting laws. If anything, you are a partial owner and when your father passes away you will be responsible for paying the inheritance taxes on the estate for his portion.

But sure, I can't be bothered to continue either.

Bullshit? Let me teach you a little about lifestyle and consumers.

Most people on this thread purchase premium market brand name clothing such as Dior, Common Projects, Ksubi, Cloak, J.Lindeberg, and the list goes on and on.

The price tag these brands carry on their products are at the top. $300+ for jeans isn't your average price point. What i'm getting to is that people are trading up, spending more on luxury so that they can feel an association with the wealthy, or show they are part of that circle.

So while you are bitching at me about the image my car gives, go and cry to half of this forum for purchasing $500.00 shoes. You're either buying expensive clothing because you are a wannabe, you can afford it, or you want to live well. I don't see why buying premium products accross many caregory's (i.e. watches, automobiles, homes) other than clothing should be seen differently.

It's all relative.

Fuck.

I think thats very much beside the point.. fact is that dudes contribution to the forum so far has been about 30 posts on where he studies and where he interns in about 4 different threads, what kind of a car he drives, pics of his parents house and dads ferrari, how large he lives, plus arguing about posting pics of his parents house... in my book thats weaksauce. I guess my parents have a pretty nice home and cars, but I wouldn't be caught dead taking pictures of something thats not fully mine and flaunting it on an internet forum.

while many things on this forum can be considered "showing off" in a sense, ie recent purchases, pictures of homes or cars, waywt and so on, I think theres a subtle/modest way of contributing and an obnoxious way of doing it. each to their own.

this may totally come off as a tangent but i've always wondered as to how some of the people are living here. i mean when i first started browsing this forum i thought it was everyone were rich young "professionals" or a bunch of people whose parents are rich. buying all this expensive shit but then i always wondered.. what's the crib like? do they own or are they renting? what kind of car are they pushin'? are they eating right? ...

Less about what they own and where they live but I often wonder how the majority of people on the board look after themselves in their real lives.

During exam times (or during school), I basically live in a shit hole filled with junk where

Some things I thought about
-People here are steezin' but their room ain't
-The rooms are so dirty that they must not be getting laid (a lot)
-That explains the popularity of the Fobby girl appreciation (girls are half naked) and I-wanna-see-some-boobz thread

I just recently re-decorated my bedroom and started to become interested in modern design and furniture. I'm looking for ideas of what else to do. Here are a few pics of what I've done to my bedroom so far. Feel free to share some suggestions and let me know what you think.

Well, you're off to a good start.

However, I would suggest a new paint job and a change in duvet covers. That black dresser seems out of place, next to a glass desk and a glass-doored closet.

After about a week of zenning out my place, here is the progress so far. There's still a handful of things I want to do on my list, but it's taking a while. Plus, I think change should happen organically, not all at once. That makes it feel artificial. For the most part, I just uncluttered everything and organized.

Here's the progress so far, with some before and after pics. Sorry for the random pic quality, I suck at color correction. Also there's an overload of fashion related content.

Before

http://www.peter-nguyen.com/images/habitat/beforemain.jpg
Main. Books, dress form, pillows, boxes, mail..etc everywhere. Foreman family grill baby!

http://www.peter-nguyen.com/images/habitat/beforecouch.jpg
Couch and coffee table covered in books, clothes, cameras, scratching post, magazines..

http://www.peter-nguyen.com/images/habitat/aptbefore.jpg
Work table. Books, magazines, office stuff, hot sauce, empty coke zero bottles, napkins...

http://www.peter-nguyen.com/images/habitat/shelfbefore.jpg
Shelf. Stacks and stacks of books unorganized, papers, muji clear boxes filled with junk.

http://www.peter-nguyen.com/images/habitat/beforetop.jpg
Loft area. Paintings, frames, boxes of old clothes and junk, kitty in a box

http://www.peter-nguyen.com/images/habitat/closetbefore.jpg
a very messy closet. That mass of black on the right side are clothes piled up that should be hanging.

Zen it up

Endless amounts of fashion and design related material

Look at all those empty hangers. I ended up donating almost half my wardrobe to unclutter.

On top of the shelf, colonge, shoe polish, jewelery.

I moved my Muji drawers up on the loft and topped them with wood planks that I'm going to paint white. I still have to organize this area. I plan to put more photos, some plants. etc. My bedding area to the right is bare, I just got rid of my old sheets so I'm not going to show it yet.

damn muoko... where in NYC does one find a space that big?

It's not as big as it seems, the ceilings make it seem larger than it is. My space is a little under 560sq ft. You can def find places like this in Brooklyn for a good price, but you'll be out in brooklyn (flame all you want..I'm a manhattanite). I caught a break with my space, i'm downtown.

Kinda don't know what to put up on this wall. I was thinking something like a rail to hang denims along, will also help mute sound from traveling though the paper thin walls. I think poly or chicken had a setup like that and it looked good. Also need some window treatments, these blinds aren't cuttin it.

*1.5" gap from top of crown molding to ceiling for embedded rope lights (red) for ambient lighting.

no the full series is far too big for my wallspace. and was also sold out when i was at the store - these two were my favourite from what was left in stock.

and yes, used very fine but strong transparent fishing wires for mounting. almost invisible unless upon close inspection. :)

Probably has to do with a lot less tee, denim , shirts buying and realizing that all new fashion is not a necessity. Not a stab at you I don't know your buying habits, but as soon as you fall back a little from clothes you find a lot more money freed up.

The standard of living in Toronto (in terms of housing) is fucking ridiculous. When I was there last year, colleagues of mine that were making significantly less money had fucking brand new 20th floor 2 bedrooms, granite countertops and shit in the center of town for the same price you would pay here for a studio in a mediocre area. But then, it snows there half the year, and hey, it is Canada after all.
