View Full Version : Ties and Things?
whats the word on ties? in or out? who are we buying? this is a continuation of the post on skinnycorp/threadless tees and the question about their other company Naked & Angry (http://www.nakedandangry.com). i think they have some dope ties. they're not inexpensive but hey maybe during holiday season. opinions, comments, criticisms?
here's what i gleaned off the site.

If you like em buy em! Simple as that, who cares what peoples opinion are.

The ties look good, although I'd rather have a skinny mcqueen tie with skulls then a skinny tie with initials.

There nice. I don't really have to wear ties that often but if I did, probably just a skinny black tie. I don't really like patterns that much.
been rockin ties and vests for a while now. good choice imo
darkanimal, dude i'm not buying just opinion-mining

I like Jil Sander ties..although I dont own one. Maybe this fall though. If youre lucky you can find some good skinny ties in vintage stores. Thats where Ive found the best ones.

Well my opinion then, I think the ties they make are overpriced and just hype. If I wanted some fancy ties like that there are alot of places I can get em for below $50. For their price, I'd just add $50 and I can score myself some Dior Homme ties which the quality is 1000x better. And yes, like somebody mentioned, I get my ties from vintage for $8. That's is where it's at.

With all the thrift opportunities I can't believe that anybody here buys ties new. I'm a fan of narrow knit wools in solid colors. Don't see them much, they give a nice change of texture.

Band of Outsiders has some nice thin ties that were on sale during Barney's last seasonal clearance. But +1 on getting them from vintage shops....you can usually score some good looking 2-2.5" ties for cheap. Quality will range from so-so to good but since I dont wear ties much , quality isnt really an issue since they could be made from tissue paper and would still last me a couple years.

there must be something wrong with my eyes but that tie looks green, maybe camo but not black

^^My god it's true!!
Just to stay on topic, as everyone else said, the onl way to buy ties is on the cheap. Unless money isn't an object. Those are some nice ties though, especially the white & pink.

When I start buying ties at prices higher than sales/thrift/vintage, I imagine that I'll also be obsessing about how to get the most premium fabric/paper for my business cards. I look forward to this and the inevitable yuppie killing spree to follow.

Second the Band Of Outsiders recommend.
Filippa K also has some cool skinny ties.
Both great with vests, skinny jeans and pointy shoes.
